right when i move out of house i will get 1 or 2 kittens , i have 1 cat now , a almost 2 year old cat , This august he will be fully 2 years , in cat years he's about 22 years old and still is a little silly monkey , He charges me from the Chair , wrestles my hand like 200 times a day , I love him , he pwns , he's cool when u like annoy him he will just fart and stuff.. and it will make you go away but minutes later he will come to you.. But it always looks like he's smiling when he farts..
In most places, yes. In the US you need a permit from the USDA and some state and local laws require some sort of exotic animal licensing. Full grown they only get about 2 feet tall, 60 pounds. No larger than a medium sized dog.
Well since no one has posted she got named Nirobi and she lives with her mother and aunt at the Leesburg Animal Park in Leesburg, VA. Come and visit her and see how big she has gotten now!
oh yeah, like a zoo would be the perfect place. (some people poke, pick, tease, take pics with flash on. ugh i can't stand it!) I think if this kittens owner takes care of it properly and meets the goals and needs of the serval it should stay where it is. Did that look like an unhealthy serval to you? Not to me! besides, didn't you read the description? "Serval kitten at the Leesburg Animal Park ".
While cute, cuddly and still a novelty to the owner when they are young kittens, they become destructive, difficult to handle and potentially dangerous before they are full grown. Please give this animal a suitable home like local zoo where they can be taken care of properly.
you know if you would actually ever own a serval you would know that if they are trained and taught right they would be fine where they are, want to know how a know that???
These cats are not to be owned. And yes I am mentally stable thank you very much. They are not to be kept in homes, they are ment to be wild cats with suitable habitats, not houses like we live in. And they are illigal in most places because of that. Keeping any wild animal as a pet is bad idea.
i understand that they should be wild cats... but for the people that do domesticate them they should be allowed to keep them as long as they provide decent food, shelter, and they show caring and interest to that animal...
have you ever owned a serval or any other wild animal as a pet?
i would rather ddomesticate an animal than to cage it :(
sorry but i just dont like the idea of someone or something being in a cage no matter how big it is it is still restricted not to mention the serval having constant stress of meeting new people i bet it would be scary
but dont get me wrong domestic cats are also restricted i just think they are better living with one person and binding to them than to have to see so many new visitors and have alot of loud noises near them
Our zoos doesn't have cages for majority of the animals, our animal areas are habitats made to look like what they would have in the wild and are very large, and are all animals that have been either confiscated from people who had the animals illegally, or are injured and/or orphaned, or in a endagered breeding group.
We only have cages for animals such as birds who would fly away without them, but the birds we have - have either been footprinted (hand raised) and cannot be released into the wild, or didnt fully recover from rehabilitation and wouldnt be able to survive in the wild. We discourage people from owning wild animals because even domisticated they still have feral instinct and it can be years until that instinct shows up. Don't be so quick to think all zoos are caged up sad animals.
I have a question for you. Where did all of our current domesticated pets originate from ? :) Are you trying to say they were never a wild species to being with ?!
That took thousands of years. Servals are not house cats. There's plenty of research and people who support that. Just because they are cute and because people do it doesn't make it right. That's my final response to this thread.
good point.I don't think our anscestors had an act of congress and a vote to decide if an animal should of been domesticated.Horses can be dangerous. And so can dogs and cows and pigs.Even game rooster can pack a heck of a wallop with their spurs if they are protecting the hens.snakes can sqweeze you and spiders bite.Shall I go on?
your a dumb ass.. Servals have been domesticated by man for thousands of years. all the way back to ancient egypt. just cause there are some wild ones out there doesnt mean that they are "wild" to the point of eating like a baby or something, they are like dogs they love man so much.. there are NEVER attacks by these animals on people . So STFU ANd thats my final response to this thread!!!! AHAAH DUMB SHIT
Silly monkey - if you'd ever owned a cat you'd know that they've never really been domesticated but that they domesticated humans instead and graciously allow them to live in the same houses as they do (as long as they maintain a steady supply of cat food). :)
In fact, considering how much tame servals and savannah cats tend to bond with humans, they seem to be less independent than the common house cat.
I have to agree dogs and cats had to have come from somewhere first, or your little budgie or parrot you keep in your living room locked up in a cage. Also I had a pet ferret for 7 years.
how many weeks was this kitten? im getting one and they said i have to wait for it to e 8 weeks old. im just wondering how big it would be by then. i know they grow fast
wait a minute, did you just ask "was that the bird or the phone?" Lol! what kind of bird do you have?! xD I wouldnt be surprised if it as was rare and as exotic as your kitten.
But anyway, Aww I want a Serval. they are so beautiful... and cuddly looking xD
hahah oh my, just checked on the animal park site, it has been much to long since I've worked there. Is this one of Savanna's kittens or are they some other newcomers.
Yes, they are definitely legal. They grow to about 16" and 40 lbs, so they get quite big. One thing to remember is that there's a lot of spirit and wildness in them, something any want-to-be owner must consider thoroughly.
How do u get one of these. And how much?
