the fairchild's have some pretty damn fast attack times. on setting 1 the attack is supposed to be .4ms. i'm pretty sure the slowest attack is on setting 4 and it's still .8ms. the release times are all on the slow side with a fastest release of 400ms.
@cheapspace I would have thought that the they are 2 different types of compression, data and audio. The farchild compresses the audio signal and youtubes encoder compresses the data. youtubes encoding does lower the quality of the audio but I have never heard it sound like an audio compressor. Some of the audio uploaded as part of a well made HD video can survive quite well in some cases but i would have to agree the youtube vidoes are not a great are not a great medium for critical listening.
@cheapspace whilst you are correct in what you have said, the plugins (if they make the audio sound better) will still have the bypassed signal as a reference as youtube is compressing at all times.
It is not the quality of the signal that people bass it on as such, but the quality of the signal compared with the bypassed signal. So, youtube is not such a bad place to judge audio processors.
im trying the 14 demo days of this plugin in my uad and i don´t understand nothing. can anybody make a "guide for retarded guys" to learn how hell works a compresor?
@fuckableteam I know its frustrating, but Rome wasnt built in a day. Just take your time and play with it til you get the sound you like. Remember, there are "no rules" in Music. you might do some new with that same compressor that know one has done before. Also take in consideration of the mic and preamp that your using. Have Fun.
Allen Sides, a guy who records everything paper thin, picked out his favorite 670. Great. How about letting Clearmountain or Chris Lord Alge pick one out instead?
not just louder! Squashed with a pumping compression! mmmm....(sarcastic mmm btw). (although I DO like the fairchild, that was a really extreme audio a/b and doesn't do it justice imho)

holy fuck, over-compress much? i hope that was just to emphasize its effect

you do realize it is compressed twice right? Once in the video and another from you tubes encoder. This is the worst site to judge audio plugins.

It's my "go to" compressor for acoustic guitar these days. I used to use the 1176, but this sounds warmer, and more natural...

I think Tony Maserati could be added to that list, the Fairchild is also very cool on vocals but can be quite aggressive if let off the leash!!

Nice compressor being used to kill a sound!
