he could score any number of very hard punches, against an open warrior like juan, yeah yeah, when he was not busy clinching and levering like a coward at his obscene will, or allowed every kind of cheating by the unpresentable Mills Lane.
roldan had superhuman strength, he sparred with monzon when he was a teenager and monzon said he was the strongest guy he has ever faced although his skills were pretty basic, he also fought a circus bear to win 100 pesos, he had to suvive for 3 minutes without getting knocked down vs the bear and he did it easily, didn't do it so easily vs hearns lol
manny steward didn't even want hearns to fight this guy bcos he thought he would be to strong for hearns after being up at 175 then coming back to 160 but hearns was a warrior and took the challenge and passed with a few shaky moments..
read about this fight in hearn's autobiography today, the referee said he'd never seen anyone recover as quickly from a devastating punch as roldan did.
Hearns was hurt at this time more than he had when he was younger, and in each fight he came back. He was hurt against Andries in round 2 and he came back and won easily. He was hurt in this fight and came back. Kinchen a year later knocked him down and Hearns held on and won a decision. Leonard hurt him and he should have won but got a draw. Later in his career, Hearns learned how to hold and he became a complete fighter. Great fighter. Really great.
Roldan constantly charges like a little bull, but I think that wasa very good strategy for him vs. Hearns. Not his fault if the Hit Man's power ultimately proved too much. Good showing by Roldan, and a tribute to Hearns still having the heart to persevere to victory, even when hurt.
i remember watching this fight in a pub back in the day and thought that it was the best fight i ever saw and it still is to this day. Say what you like about Hearns but he was fast, lethal and had a questionable chin (being polite), which all adds up to high excitement!

Don't bring up the kinchen fight since that was Tommy's worst fight in the prime of his career. the decision was a joke.
Great fighter yess and while losses to Leonard and Hagler are forgivable to his legacy 2 losses to Barkley are not.

Is this the only fight where hearns was able to come back and win after being hurt?

This is what it would look like if Hearns fought Margarito...
IceveinsProductions 3 years ago 2
thats true
but Margarito has a better chin, and roldan looks a little quicker, and shorter
but this is as close a hearns opponent has come to be a margarito

Roldan had a good chin. It's just that Hearns hits so bloody hard.
