  • That's really disturbing, and completely unsurprising. Any incursion into the Middle East by a western nation will always be suspect having holy war undertones.

These Bible quotes were clearly used to mentally establish a position of inferiority of the enemy. It's the first step in creating a rationalization that allows someone who thinks they're a religiously superior Christian to kill the enemy without feeling any guilt.

It's also a great way to get people to fight an unjust war.

  • And some people tried to tell me this war had nothing to do with their religion

  • Opening the Bible for magic answers is called "Bibliomancy". It is a very real practice that Christians often employ when trying to make decisions.

  • @xephyr1000 i call it insanity, well that and the ability to find what you want in any set of words

  • i just called bob dutkos "Shitler" in an email.

  • America ....theocracy or democracy????

  • I wonder how mad Jeff would've gotten had he known at the time about bible verse numbers being cast into the metal of soldier sights without anyone's knowledge.

  • This is gonna help me with my exam tomorrow :P Quotes! :D

  • does anyone know who jeff votes for?

  • "Onward Christian So-o-ldier Marching As To War..."

  • [southern accent] All you gotta do is be Christian [w/ high voice] I's-all-you-gotta-do...

  • The U.S. government needs a special branch for dealing with breaches of the law of separation of religion and State.

A branch whose sole purpous would be to investigate those who violate the law of separation of church and state (from presidents to public school teachers) charge them with a federal crime, arrest them, try them, and pass sentance on them (including impeachment).

  • And again thousands die because the religious are convinced of the "righteousness" of their cause.

"What harm does religion do" indeed. Short answer: death.

  • I think Jeff has been self medicating. Cant say i blame him.

  • Also remember Bush trying to convince Chirac in 2003 to join the invasion by using Revelations prophecy with "gog and magog."

  • Jeff appears to be on painkillers in this video

  • This makes me wonder if Obama is really an atheist.

  • @MirageScience actually* an atheist.

  • What ever happened to not combining church and state? Does Donald Rumsfeld not understand the constitution?

  • First of all this sounds like some simple minded conspiracy theory. You guys are taking this anti-Bush hysteria to a whole new level of retardedness. Good grief at least get your facts straight. 16 UN resolutions ignored is a good place to start. It is just your opinion that this war shouldn't have happened, not a fact. And you prefer to call Bush a fool rather than Saddam, typical leftist propaganda there yourself. As an Atheist I enjoy your broadcasts, but sometimes you make me wonder,WTF?

  • @mydogbanjo How is calling Bush a fool, and not Saddam, leftist propaganda? It makes no difference, because HE IS A FOOL!!! How is this anti-bush hysteria? Neither of them are acting hysterical and the concern they raise is ABSOLUTELY legitimate. As an Atheist shouldn't you understand that this is a massive violation of Separation of Church and State? WTF are you even trying to say?

  • @Codfert970 Hey, thanks for reading my comment. First of all, I wouldn't call someone a fool that managed to be elected twice. Some would say he managed to steal not one but two elections. Pretty clever I'd say. As for the bible verses on the documents, I'm not all that concerned about it, I use religious references all the time as a part of the culture we live in and can separate inspiration from the religion that it comes out of, for instance, if it's a good or fitting quote. ...cont....

  • @mydogbanjo And the relentless attacks on Bush, some legitimate, some not, seems to be more politically motivated from a leftist point of view rather than a conservative point of view, and Bush just happens to be the "perfect storm" from which to make a straw man from. I think you, like many left leaning atheists, often confuse your political positions with atheism. The two have nothing in common. I happen to be both atheist and conservative without conflict.

  • @mydogbanjo OK, I'll bite. What did Bush do that was so positive? I was still a beleiver when I voted for him the first time not because of any intelligent motivation, but because he was the "Religious" choice. I was also still a believer when I didn't vote for him the second time because I found his performance pathetic. When I tried to explain to my family both the illogical and immoral decisions of the administration theri response was "Well he believes in god, so he must be right!" ...

  • @mydogbanjo Does this not scare you? I'm not taking about actual conservative politics, but the fact that practically everyone I knew at the time voted for Bush because he was overtly religious. You say he was clever for winning twice(him or his campaign staff?), but does that make the cause somehow positive? And what of the people who got sucked in? To quote Obi-Wan "Whose more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows?"

  • @MasterBlueTiger No. The conservative Christian componant doesn't scare me although I find it annoying. The coalition of the left with Islam has a more directly menacing side to me but that's another subject. There have been Christian presidents on both the left and the right, big deal. Obama's said that he's a Christian. Why's that not a concern? Kennedy was a Chatholic Christian, and Clinton said he was a Christian. Being a Christian in America is normal. If there was something to fear we...

  • @mydogbanjo ....would have seen more of the "stuff to fear"! I agree that Government has a legal and moral obligation to keep religion and state separate, but the reality is that most people are religious. I've accepted that fact even though I am not. The real problem is ideology whether religious or totalitarian in any form. My view of the Iraq issue is this: I supported a U.N. coalition to have Saddam come clean. He refused to co-operate. The U.N. remained impotent, the U.S. acted....

  • @mydogbanjo Had the U.N. done it's job there would have been no U.S./ !raq war. I don't like the fact that the war happened but it did. Hind sight is always 20/20. The job now is to sift through the debri and find what went wrong AND what went right. The person with the job NOW is Obama, a religious man by his own words, and he is incorperating Islam, into the administration's agenda. Yet it's still Bush bash/ Obama untouchable. Atheist doesn't mean leftwing ideology. It means no belief in god

  • @mydogbanjo Well that helps clear things up. No, I don't think Obama is flawless or anything, but I don't jump to wild conclusions on issues either. He could have been a lot more agressive when Dems held majority power for example. Of course my family gets most of their info from fundie sources like Focus on the Family, so you understand I have to take what I hear with a grain of salt. Strategically, toppling Sadam was good. One less dictator after all. :)

  • @MasterBlueTiger Cool. I can see your point. I see a lot of atheists on You-Tube with a leftist mentality and they seem to confuse the two as logicaly going hand in hand. They don't. In fact as a skeptic I find the leftist position to be illogical. The term I use to describe some of these "atheists" is "evangelical atheist" because they incorporate so much of their socialist dogma into conversations about atheism.

  • @mydogbanjo Well now your just an idiot for doing the same thing you claim "Leftist" Atheists are doing to your position. As someone who is only left of center, I facepalm at the vicious attitudes of the grunts on both etremes. I think you're all morons, but at least I'm equal opportunity about it. :)

Good politics looks looks at things from different angles and works to find innovative solutions, not trying to be more right than the other guy.

  • @MasterBlueTiger Well your entitled to your opinion. My point is that atheism and politics are separate issues. I threw in my opinion about leftist atheism, and I stand by it. I do agree that in politics there are good and bad ideas on both sides of center, but as a skeptic I look at the 20th century and wonder why anyone would endorse socialism. Seems like it's as much a religion as Islam and has just as bad a track record. But I'm like you. Anyone who doesn't agree with me is a moron. :)

  • @mydogbanjo I was referig to the extremists actually, nto absolutely everyone. And where did the topic of endorsing socialism come in? That doesn't even have anything to do withe the vid.

Tell me one thing though:Is it logical to pay the people who keep you from getting cholera by treating your dirnking water with dirt, and then pay millions to someone just because he throw a ball really far? I may not agree with every tenent of socialism, but I don't go around calling it a religion...

  • @MasterBlueTiger I believe I said my position on politics includes rounding up the best ideas from all sides, just as you mentioned earlier.

I'm concerned about the leftist view of socialism as the answer to economic problems. You would have to ignore the evidence and history of the 20th century to adopt such a position.

  • @mydogbanjo Again, what evidence? And what about the right view of economics that we have been using recently. I just love the economy right now, don't you?

  • @mydogbanjo ...Which if you'll reference your dictionary under the letter R it isn't. How about telling me what specifically you dislike about socialism. Or do you just throw that word around or automatically associate with communism. I'm really wondering how knowledgeable you are on the topic, cause right now, you aren't looking so hot on the brightness scale.

  • @MasterBlueTiger If you have to ask about the connection of socialism and communism I might well question the acuracy of your brightness scale. Are you serious?

  • @mydogbanjo So rather than answer my question you try to dodge it. Cute. :)

  • @MasterBlueTiger Fair enough. Here's a no brainer. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The former USSR. Ever heard of it? Yeah, the socialist Lenin had a little something to say there. How about the communist manifesto by Karl Marx? Never heard of that either I guess. Read it and learn something about socialism. Here's one you probably won't like either. National Socialist German Workers' Party, founded in Germany in 1919 later the Nazis of the infamous Hitler, ever heard of them?

  • @mydogbanjo Russian communism overthrew another totalitarian

monarchy backed by a totalitarian theocratic Russian Orthodox church.

Nazism was totalitarism supported by the catholic church. Theocracy is

always totalitarism and intolerance. Totalitarism all the components of

a religion. Stalin was a god.

  • @humansaretheworld I don't dissagree. I would also add that these totalitarian regimes could not flourish with out the support of the socialist mind set of a large portion of the population and the power of leftist organisations such as "the workers unions".

    Thanks for the input.

Masterbluetiger seems to have lost interest in this conversation.

  • @humansaretheworld

"theocratic Russian Orthodox church"?? That's a stupid way to put it, hence the misconception. Russia was NEVER a theocracy. Neither under the tsar, nor under the Communists.

Totalitarism and religion are ENTIRELY different things.

And neither Stalin, nor Mao - no matter what Hitchens says - were considered or treated as gods!

We have to be clear about these, because such inconsistence only give arguments to theists to paint us atheists fools.

  • @grozde Louis Fisher in "The Life and Death of Stalin" gives some examples of Hymns written for and about Stalin, which were purportedly standard singing fare. Just sayin'.

  • @MrCannaBeans

If you're talking about religious hymns, that would surprise me, but not that much: Stalin was the one who restored the patriarchy in Russia.

What does this have to do with theocracy?

  • @mydogbanjo These are the connections of socialism to the more extreme "isms." There is no doubt that they are inspired by the same ideologies. They all have the power of government as their center piece. The conservative ideology is the antithesis of socialism. It has individual freedoms and responsibilities and the power of the individual as its centerpiece. I'm more for a balance between conservativism and socialism a type of libertarian , socially conscious, just right of center gov.

  • @MasterBlueTiger “He woke up precisely at six am religiously every morning.” Notice the context and the use of the word religion. This is a common use of the word religion when describing an action or set of actions practiced by one or more people in a habitual or ritualistic manner. I’m stretching this concept over the ideology of socialism because of the near faith like quality in it’s virtues that it’s subscribers dogmatically cling to.

  • @mydogbanjo I was following some of your conversation.I think the reason why you find so much leftish views in atheism is because when you remove god as a possible helping source for humanity's ills you're left with the people having to help themselves. There is no god to give that homeless person a blessing ,if he's going to be helped it will either come from that person or the society in which he resides. That's leftish thought.

  • @gamesmaster35 That's the first intelligent thought on my position I've had in some time. Thanks for your input. I agree to a point with your analysis, however I don't find altruism a particularly leftist position, just a human condition without a political side like love or hope or loyalty. You make an interesting point though. Thanks!

  • @mydogbanjo You also mention that you aren't scared about the conservative christian component. Exactly why? Because I've had to deal with these people first hand and if their talk of suppressing basic human rights doesn't scare you, then you're insane.

  • @MasterBlueTiger What basic human rights are being suppressed by conservative christians in Gov.? Are you talking rights or the laws of the land? I guess that could make a difference. By the way, calling me names doesn't help your arguement, it only adds a childish flavour to the conversation.

  • @mydogbanjo Heard of constitttional reconstructionalists? For some reason they tend to be rather popular despite the frightening implications for our democracy. If you want the law to start saying that you can only live your life the way god commands based ont he bible, then by all means, support these people.

  • @MasterBlueTiger Hey, I just asked what rights you were referring to! Ease up on the attack mode dude! I'm not interested in being a jerk or right fighting anyone, I'm just here dropping comments and maybe learning a few things while sharring some opinions. You're entitled to believe what ever you want. I'm just not a big fan of leftist politics.

  • Wow , did you see the commie pinko insurgency in the corner.

What about the two on the screen, dammit. The room is full of them Un-American heathen .........

George and Donald. That's enough. Go and sit on the naughty step.

  • Government is stupid we need to separate economics from state also !!!! Youtube "the story of your enslavement"

  • I wish my magic eight ball gave me permission to destroy my enemies!

  • it's pink there! Magic? Clearly god made it..

  • I cant understand why Hitchens supported these thugs, and the invasion as a secular war against the loony religious.

  • @LouisPlume I think he's half right: it's true that it's a good thing that the Middle Eastern theocratic dictatorships are being challenged and removed, but that's not the only reason that the Western powers are deciding to intervene or else we'd have gone in to the many other places of similar situations but with less resources and opportunity for corporate profit. The thing is now that we're over there, we won't be leaving.

  • @LouisPlume The invasion of the Middle East is closer to a personal vendetta, than anything, of the Bush family against Saddam Hussein, and even now that he's long dead, we still have troops wasting billions of dollars and tons of resources on an unjustified war based on stupidity and the desire for the natural, limited resources that we don't have ourselves.

    In short, it's bullshit.

  • Judaism, Christianity and Islam origins are the same. Believe in a particular god and you are then the chosen people and you may do whatever you want to non-believers. Reject this god as a person or as a people and you deserve whatever you get for rejecting the one true god. People invented and used these religions for making themselves rich and powerful. It is no surprise that they keep doing so, and most of these powerful people do not believe a word of it.

  • @47saeed And those that ARE stupid enough to believe, we often end up letting have all kinds of political power, and we're that much closer to mutually assured destruction because of it.

Though, I don't think I've ever seen an extremist Jew...

  • @UnderlordZ I have never met any religious extremist in Britain, that is because they do not have ruling power here, give them ruling power and see them come out of the wood work. What really annoys me is when people in England convert to Islam; I would love by magic for England to become an Islamic country under Sharia law for one week, these people will leave Islam faster than a fart through sting underpants.

  • @47saeed No religous-political power? Mind if I hop across the pond?

  • @UnderlordZ The Jewish settlers on the occupied territories are as extreme and nutty as the worst of any religion.

  • "Put that up on still-store, cambot..."

  • I don't believe there is a god but if I have to choose a religion I'm going with the one that gives me 72 virgins when I die.

  • This segment reminds me of Zeitgeist Addendum . Brainwashing young people to go fight. Just as brainwashed as the Taliban.

  • I'm not american, but as i understand, your constitution states that church and state must forever be separated.

Anybody trying to push christianity (or ANY other religion) into public institutions, including public schools and government branches, must therefore, by definition, be traitors.

Why has noone taken these traitors to court? Not for lying, but for treason.

It seems clear to me, that for usa to survive AS usa, the very thing that made usa great, these ppl need to be stopped, now.

  • Don Rumsfeld was one stupid asshole. LOL

  • Well done! It scares me to think of this country being run by such freaks. Does anyone remember the old Star Trek episode where the "evil entity" caused Kirk's crew and the Klingons to wage war on the Enterprise? Silly, sure. But isn't "God" just like the "evil entity"? God LOVES war and bloodshed, why else would he instruct his followers to commit so f**king much of it?! If the Bible teaches anything, it is to HATE and KILL those not like you--READ THE DAMN THING!!!

  • ...is that a spaghetti monster plush? I want one!

  • I wonder how many atheists in fox holes we would have if we said to the soliders" Ok all non christains come and get your body armor, the rest of you don't worry you have god to protect you." suddenly everyone in the army would at least claim to be an atheist.

  • the weapons industry and blkwatr are religous christian and are combining relig with politics. this is very scary.

  • Jeff is a tool, it is just psyops. Propaganda is part of war. My big problem with atheists is, at heart, so many of them are just hippie pacifists and then they wonder why they get rolled by theists that have, what I would call, that 'inner fire', too steal a WoW term. ;p

  • @l337pwnage Then why were these keep a secret up until now? If they were really some sort of "psyops", wouldn't they have been released earlier?

  • As I understand the way they presented it, they didn't go fowarded with it, these were ideas that were looked at and scrapped. And went it comes to military and war, you keep EVERYTHING secret as long as you can, you might use it later, you might not, and if it is mixed up with a bunch of other 'secrets', if they are found out, now people have to guess which ones are important. The only thing cooler than a secret, is when people find something important, but they don't know it IS important. ;)

  • @l337pwnage Even if it was "psyops", it's still the government favoring one religion over the other. One of the main concepts of our nation is supposed to be "Separation of Church and State", not "Separation of Church and State except for Christianity".

  • God forbid (uh oh, I used the "G" word) that we have a politically incorrect military, wouln't want to offend the people we are shooting at with our M16's, or the atheists that fleeing to Canada. Jesus Fucking Christ and Flying Fucking Spaghetti Monster. Whatever it takes to fire up your side, that is what you use, it is really not that complicated.

  • @l337pwnage Have you even seen the documents? They were intelligence briefings. Would you be complaining if they had instead had quotes from the Koran or Vedas? After all, all religions are supposed to be valued equally in this country.

  • They could quote Darth Vader for all I care. All religions are equally absurd to me, but if people want to be usefull idiots, so be it. Religion, race, nationalism, culture, enthnicity, etc, etc, et al. have all been used in propaganda throughout history. If Koran quotes would get Muslims to fight on our side, great. We had alot of great Japanese soldiers on our side in WWII too. Religion will be with us for 100's, maybe 1,000's, of years yet, get used to it.

  • lol - what you just wrote was so stupid its funny.

  • Yeah, damn those lousy pussy atheists not wanting to blow up women and children. They should know that GOD is PERFECT and RIGHTEOUS and his hand of JUSTICE is the AMERICAN ARMY and guides them to SMITE the heathens and heretics and especially people with coloured skin. Gods ULTIMATE WILL is GOOD and HOLY and the HOLY WARS guided by the almighty GOD should not be criticized by the evil heretical atheist scum.

  • Sarcasm??

  • They have that "inner fire" as long as the bombs don't drop on THEIR houses.

  • Religion and war have always been good friends.

  • @samgee2007 It is not right that ANYONE kill in the mindless name of religion

    Peace

  • I heard that the troops were forced to pray!

  • there isnt a facepalm massive enough for all this

  • religion is such bullshit, and so shamelessly made up as it goes

  • Dillahunty + Dee is epic combo.

  • The staff of the atheist experience should all be in government.

  • @DWARFSareAWESOME

the a.e staff deserve better than that.

  • @DWARFSareAWESOME i don't think so.. cause we all know power corrupts.. these good folks do a public service..and get on with their life :)

  • @DWARFSareAWESOME they all seem kinda douchey to me.. like they care to much about a stupid topic.. and taking it upon themselves to try and get rid of religous views

  • @DWARFSareAWESOME when I've seen your comment, I gave thumb up after I barely made it, I've realized that I do not live in America but in Europe:)) ... I've seen too many clips with them

  • This would be all so easily remidied if parents just stopped brainwashing children in to believe, that they would be burned in hell, for ever and ever, if they didn't believe some specific dogma, the parents just happened to follow. 95+% of all believers have the same belief as their parents. Funny how it's ALWAYS the only right one. Ofcourse i'm only talking to the hell-'rewarding' (how loving, just and divine a choice indeed, for an omnipotent mofo) religions - about 2/3 of the world or so.

  • @tdjdk Some people recognize that the main reason they're whatever religion they are is because that's how their parents raised them yet they persist in "knowing" they are right & even thank god for having them in that situation rather than 1 in which they would've turned out to have some other beliefs.

  • Atheists FTW!!

  • This is not just shocking, this is plain WRONG. Even more sickening that it seems the whitehouse was just it's own version of evangalism and that everyone and everything around them was simply a tool or instrument for them to use to further their own evangelical neo-conservative bullshit. I don't see a single thing that was done in Bush's terms that really moved the country forward. It will take a decade for your country to catch up with the world now, that's ONLY if you can pay the debts!

  • Hey, the backdrop is a Windows OS running.

At 10:40 you can see an application pop in to the screen.

  • This sickening, scary episode should kill off the Christian Right as a significant force in US politics.

4,000+ US troops and over 400,000 Iraqis are dead because of the voices in Bush's head.

  • Actually, more than 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians. 800,000 is the conservative minimum.

  • minimum is 560000

  • Not anymore.

  • 560000 iraqis.

  • This is what happens when you elect a dumb president, he's too scared for the bible quotes to go against it. And Rumsfeld was "smart" enough to know this and take advantage of this.

  • This is the most disturbing video i have ever seen. thank you very much.

  • He did it to get Bush gungho for going to war. It's so fucked up. And Bush only got elected because of those fundi brainwashed pawns. Another example of how religion can cause war/death/violence. Another reason why we can never, EVER let a religion hi-jack the white house again.

  • this is FUCKING SCARY!

  • TRASHING the 4th commandment/sabbath is about the most obvious religious con job/deception on EARTH. Just compare how 99% of the church use ACTS 20:7 and never teach about ACTS 13:42-44, 16:13, 17:2 and 18:4. The usual text used is Col 2:16,17 and by many who don't have a clue what they are talking about. If PAUL trashed the sabbath, why didn't he warn all of those gentiles in ACTS to stop hanging around the Jews and come worship with him on the SUNday/Lord's day? SATAN has the church sinning

  • I lost my brother in Iraq in 2005... this religious power playing is particularly disgusting. I actually had people come to me and say "He died for Gods will, for his holy cause." They then call me a "traitor" when I mention he wasn't a Christian. PATHETIC PEOPLE... yes, I'm bitter. I think I'm allowed...

  • Fundamentalist and extremist christians can be pretty disgusting and cruel can't they.

  • @DeadlyChinchilla

I know this is more than a little late, but you have my condolences and I thank all our soldiers for their sacrifices. No one who makes a sacrifice for our country of that kind should ever be called a traitor. If I ever find these people who said that, I will deck them in your brother's memory.

  • @DeadlyChinchilla

Sorry for your loss, and the shit you have to put up with because of it/ from the ignorant, mate

  • We are just becoming more like the Taliban.

    Holy War! Jihad!!!

  • shocking shit

  • It was Gods voice to Bush so apparently Bush thinks Rumsfeld is god.

  • Good Info in this vid btw, I guess upholding the consititution has become secondary to our leaders.

  • Why hasn't Rumsfeld been charged or sued??

  • Bush is a war CRIMINAL. he started something that need not have been started. we could have used all that time, money and resources to simply rebuild and laugh in the faces of the destroyers, but 911 was a setup, perpetrated by the government.

  • christians are jew-lovers

  • Washmitt I hope you're kidding. Christians and republicans are one and the same, both are equally guilty. If anything, it's christianity that's pulling the strings.

  • christains are being USED by republicans

  • I think "Christians are using Republicans" is a more accurate statement.

  • I think "Using Christians as Republicans," makes more sense.

  • I think right wing christians and republicans are idiots

    is the most accurate statement.

  • modern day crusaders

  • Ahh... those were Bush's bedtime stories from Rumsfield!

  • Is it just me or does Jeff seem spaced out in this vid?

  • he's containing the RAGE!!!

  • LOL

Why am I getting negative comment marks? Wow! LOL! Someone cannot simply say one of the hosts looks spaced out? LMAO!

I cannot believe the Bush Administration got away with stuff like this. Look on my channel. I have a featured video of the Young Turks, where they talk about how Bush told Pres. Cirac that invading the middle east is a fulfillment of biblical prophecy. Thank the FSM that Bush is no longer in power. I'd wake up every morning shitting myself with fear.

  • yea he does...i cant tell if its that...or hes just in such shock...

    "ya know...weeeeeird ancient prophecies..."

  • One of the things I used to hate as an Atheist in the Navy is that when I was out at sea, the ship's chaplain would say and evening prayer everynight over the 1MC so that the whole ship can hear it. They would also cut transmissions to the TVs, so the off duty sailors on the ship would always get their shows interupted. And the prayers were always something stupid, usually biased towards the ship and the Navy. Any intelligent sailor (if there were such a thing) would see how pointless it was.

  • Duuude....is Jeff taking meds or something? I would expect him to be FLIPPING out right now...and rightfully so. Or...maybe this is what happens when he gets pushed TOO far.

  • This is probably just the tip of the iceberg with regard to crazy stupid evil shit these guys were doing the last 8 years.

  • Sounds like memos to recruit Jimbob Duggar's army of xian brats.

  • fascinating...

  • Anyone who thinks Rumsfeld is a "christian" is an idiot

  • I doubt anyone believes Rumsfeld is christ like or more then a christian of convenience but he certainly used the bible and Bush's belief to the best of his ability.

  • creepy and scarring!

  • Clear violation of separation of church and state.

  • Comment removed

  • Go to a Christian, pull out a bible and ask him to point out where exactly Bush didn't follow their holy book.

  • wimscheers I guess Bush never forced a rape victim to marry her attacker as in Deuteronomy 22:28-29, or killed anyone for working on Sunday. So perhaps even religious nutters know that at some point their precious book becomes evil beyond belief.

  • Aha, but it's our (the atheists) task to point out this willful ignorance of the theist.

And for me the best way to go about this is pointing towards some extreme ends of the religious community, be it the westboro baptist church or Muslim fundamentalists flying a plane into a building, and ask them WHY these acts are evil, WHERE these people don't follow their religion.

In my mind its impossible to condemn 9/11 and hold even the most watered down religious view.

Why are they wrong? As them.

  • "In my mind its impossible to condemn 9/11 and hold even the most watered down religious view.

    Why are they wrong?"

I've raised the same point myself on Westboro Baptist Church videos, and all I've had in response has been comments about the WBC "misinterpreting" the Bible verses they use to back up their nastiness, or not being proper christians or whatever they say they are. What a waste of time religion is!

  • Matt's last remarks appear to me to be close to the answer. It was indeed propaganda, for an audience of one: the president. Rumsfeld had the biblical quotes inserted to discourage the president from actually thinking about what was about to happen, by conflating his religious inclinations with policy. Scandalous.

  • hey does anyone else cringe each time someone says something to the effect of, "Respect the soldiers, they are over their fighting for OUR freedoms"

WDF, this war was not about our FREEDOMS, activists fight for my freedoms.

  • Tbh..

I sometimes wonder if people like georg w bush are actually atheists.. hell even osama bin laden..

Religion makes some people easy to manipulate, I as an atheist would be tempted to use it if I had the desire to do evil things

  • Basically, I wouldn't be surpised at all if hitler was an atheist..

HOWEVER religon gave him leverage over people..

A atheist being a leader over a bunch of theists.. stil doesn't proove ATHEISM as evil, but religion as evil, and atheists intelligent enough to use it for their benefit :P

  • hitler invented christmas and the christmas tree.

  • No he didn't - try reading a history book

  • There are bad people and good people. atheist and religious. Its the ones who are crazy and seek dominating power that are evil religious and non. Religion and Political agendas can produce horrible outcomes. I doubt Hitler was atheist m i believe is was misguided at a young age by many influences , racial, religious and political and this causes his both madness and extreme conviction.

  • wow typos! sry.

  • hitler was born and raised in a very catholic family. he wrote in "mein kampf", that all he does, he does for god and in the name of god: "therefore, i am convinced that i am acting as the agent of our creator. by fighting off the jews, i am doing the lord's work." hitler regarded himself as a catholic until he died. "i am now as before a catholic and will always remain so," he told gerhard engel, one of his generals, in 1941.

  • I'm honestly a little amused by how Jeff got a little huffy every time Matt tried to put Rumsfeld's use of those pictures into perspective. Jeff has always come across to me as one of the more staunchly antitheist co-hosts of the show.

  • This is some spooky shit. These people were running our government!!

  • terrible sound!!! :S

    or is it my computer+headphone??:S

    and freaky facts :(

  • Wow.. where did you get the flying spaghetti monster thats lying on the table?? I want one!

  • The stupid f'n thing that pisses me off the most is these stupid moron religious nuts want a holy war but they don't want to pay for it in taxes. They wanted their war and they got their war and now all they do is complain about having to pay for it. WTF

  • Yep, when it comes to domestic policy, the republicans are all for low spending..

But when it comes to foreign wars, they wan't to wage them, but act surpised when a democrat comes in and pumps up taxes because now we have to pay for THEIR doings.

  • it seems to work like this:

If you feel bad or confused about something you have done or want to do,

just say: 'God said is was OK to do".

then later once you have benefitted, or not, go to confession and you will be forgiven by the magic brain for ruining the lives of others. You'll feel better and you can pretend the magic brain feels better too. Done and Done.
