  • When was this recorded?

  • haha damn look how small JP was... now he has 24 inch pythons

  • The camera man is a fuckin douche! Great version though. :)

  • saw this band live -93 touring dream and awake...impressive...but this sounds really boring....its crap actually. When da hell are you gonna listen to this?

  • @urbano75 I do? Regularly? Since I found this video 4 years ago?

  • @urbano75 you probably listen to justin bieber if you dont like this

  • @MrRPCH Yes, I love Justin! And you are an idiot. If you get off to this you dont like music. As I said I saw them -93 in a small venue, the can play like hell, impressive but thats it. Live he sounds like a scared chicken.

  • who the hell dislikes this???

  • lol James' Shirt.

  • This guys remember Robert Plant and Jimmy Page? Am I the only one?

  • @neothiago10 Yes you are! Nothing in common.

  • Cant believe that this guy is John Petrucci.

  • @izrailsky I know, right? I was just thinking that.

  • In what tuning is that?

  • @NikiDorian

Something like E, G#, D#, G#, B, D# from low to high. Basically an open strum gives you a open minor chord.

  • Beautiful, such a sad thing these days that amazing music like this gets almost nil recognition except for a few loyal and die hard fans. Pop music is so lame in comparision

  • WHO WEARS SHORT SHORTS? DT WEARS SHORT SHORTS!

  • Petrucci looks like an 18 year old kid here, then you got him now, big 230 pound plus animal...

  • 0:38 LaBrie seems like a retard

  • They should play this on their tour.

  • 42 people dislike unmuscle Petrucci

  • Petrucci is the living proof that a beard set really works

  • which electro-acoustic guitar is that??

  • Screw people that give him shit, Labrie kicks serious ass!

  • watch?v=Iulx5Ca8mSg Look at this, must be Petrucci's wife :)

  • Labire = off-key Canuck Fabio homunculus

  • that version is so damn good, it's too bad it's not in higher quality..

  • Ten years ago, the time I only could play some acoustic yet beautiful metal and nobody appreciated. Now I struggle against cocaine and work with something I dont love. And now I see the talent I wasted, worried about what others like, specially when you're a teenager with conservative parents and dumb colleages. Dont let the talent you have, whatever it is, die inside you. Fight another day, it will be worth to do what you love another day.

  • @rodolforibas Hey man, thanks for the comment, that's something I really needed to see actually. I'm dealing with that right now, I have a talent and a passion for writing music, but my parents don't see it as very important and essentially have other plans for me. I have a constant need to please everybody and I feel like I'm letting them down for music, but it's also one of the few things I have a drive to pursue. Anyways, bottom line is, thanks for that comment, made my day.

  • Does anyone know what model acoustic that is?

  • i saw them at rocky point RI ! when there where first starting out ! god a long time ago i will say, and dream theater rocked and always will, i got a body length away from john before being kicked off ! lol that is the truth !

  • Thumbs up for Shorts and then skinny legs!

  • i remember i saw this 3 years ago... completely changed my perception of this song

  • My cat just died today. This song really touch me. :'(

  • @RedzaAman I take it your cat used to play this song?

  • so cute!!!

  • Even on acoustic he is finesse!

  • chido esta cansion

  • Never get sick of hearing this song....pure awesomeness!!!

  • Video quality sucks.... They play too well, camera can't handle it ;)

  • look at jp then.haha he looks like triple h now :D

  • Coisa linda pqp não dá pra não chorar.

  • Press 7 for some happiness :)

  • VHS in 92' rocked.

  • I don't like the "direct" recording sound, BUT it sounds pretty damn impressive. I wish they'd recorded this with an external mic rather direct into the board.

    They still kill this!!

  • die, all people that say that petrucci has no emotion!

  • i'd cry.

  • petrucci era appena uscito dall'asilo!

  • what a nice song!!!and petrucci is an amazing guitarist...

  • cant believe this is actually live vocals and the guitar sound f*cking amazing

  • This guitar sounds beautiful, but I prefer, for far, the studio version

  • man where did you have found this song? can i have the link to download some special dvd where i can find these videos... thank you dude

  • amazing....

  • que maravilla...

  • Comment removed

  • @VuTraMy123 I miss you James LaBrie? He IS actually in Dream Theater, he never left... refresh!

  • the guitar skill, and the deep meaning lyric....that was awesome nice!...good job DT!

  • Pretty wierd to see Petrucci without his intimidating beard... hmm

  • haha petrucci looks 15 but labrie has'nt changed a bit

  • @HolyAmitz Myung didn't change at all. xD

  • @Rodjeni1991

    I know XD

Labrie and Myung looks the same all back from "When dream and day unite"

  • kinda disappointed by Petrucci...

Labrie proves that he's not just all about technique, i loved how he changed the vocal line, to me, pitch and hitting all the right notes doesn't matter as much as personalization and smart adaptation. If it were all right and studio-like it would only bore anyone who's heard this song several times. That's the beauty of live and acoustic versions of songs, sounding different and yet keeping track of the original. :)

  • @Aeolisam I agree with everything you said there apart from you were disappointed by Petrucci. How come?

  • @agbjhw well more like -not impressed as usual, maybe it's just me but i feel like he could have played this with a bit more... spunk;

but what do i know, guitar isn't really in my "field" :)

  • i love Dream Theater, i love Petucci and La Brie..But this sucks...Please mr La Brie, you are so experienced.. open your throat please...you seem so shy... prog and prof my ass

  • Can't you see how old is this video and how young they are... Don't talk nonsence...

  • 41 people didn't try another day

  • so that's what he looks like without facial hair.

  • Charlie Dominici disliked this 40 times

  • @agbjhw wajajajaja

  • PERFEITO !!!

  • LaBrie only exists in studios.

  • @braziliandesigner

    Sad but true.

  • nice guitar , crystal clear sound .. of course its petrucci , but even though ,,

  • It's so interesting hearing JLB do real falsetto.

  • jhon petrucci before becoming a muscle man

  • @LinkaXGaming His best phase, by the way! )))

  • @LinkaXGaming And i Like him much more this way it fits him better!

  • John Petrucci is the only person badass enough to play both the guitar n keyboard parts

  • I cry hearning this, every , every time.

  • la mejor cancion en el mundo :|

  • DAMN THIS IS AWESOME!

    Labrie is freaking WIN

    so is Petrucci!

  • @tsavi1 everythings down half a step.

  • i love you guys!!!!^_^

  • does anyone know the tuning????please help

  • @tsavi1 Actually it's E Ab D# G# B Eb.

  • @YtseJohn525 actually theoretically you're wrong. It's tuned in open Emaj7 tuning so the tuning is E G# D# G# B D# so you were correct, but you just have it enharmonically incorrect sir.

  • @candlewick163 Um, ok 'sir'. I can tell you study theory and whatnot, but was that comment absolutely necessary? I mean, seriously, does it matter if I call "G#" as "Ab"? Or "D#" as "Eb". No matter what name you call it, its still the same note... just saying.

  • @YtseJohn525 No it wasn't absolutely necessary, but why live a life of ignorance?

  • @candlewick163 I'm not living a life of ignorance, for I know that the tuning is correct. I'm pretty sure tsavi1 doesn't give a shit if its enharmonically correct or not. Explain the ignorance?

  • @candlewick163 You know what? Second thought, don't explain the ignorance. I'll choose to stay ignorant if it means getting a lecture about music theory from you.

  • @YtseJohn525 LOLZ it wasn't a lecture. You are a silly person.

  • @candlewick163 True... but I can only absorb so much of that stuff 'til my head explodes. 2 sentences of theory = a lecture for me.

  • @YtseJohn525

Depends on the key or scale to which it is applied. For example, you wouldn't call G# Ab if you were playing in the key of E major.

  • oh dearie me,these two boys look younger than ever on this video clip...must be circa 1992...Petrucci has already proven his worth...h'es totally masterful in both acoustic and electric guitars...cool sound and very relaxing...

  • Only the truest of rock gods can pull off looking so girly!

  • akik'e Mas Petrucci kro padhe James LaBrie...joossss....!!!

  • akik'e Mas Petrucci kro padhe James LaBrie...joossss....!!!

  • You won't find it here

    Look another way

    You won't find it here

    So die another day

  • I can't stop listening to this. I love the guitarist's jordans. Jl voice amazing.

  • What DVD or whatever is this from, it's beautiful

  • 39 people (and counting) were killed by the JP's acoustic guitar sound in the making of this video

  • @Chileandude18 Nobody dislikes this video, it's just a glitch produced by Petrucci when playing more notes per second than the mic can handle

  • @Chileandude18 correction 40 poeple were killed by JP's acoustic guitar sound in the making of this video

  • @Chileandude18 correction 40 people were killed by JP's acoustic guitar sound in the making of this video

  • follow the harmonics John is playin the very beginning that's the guide how to tune guitar.

  • Awesome!

  • His former band WINTER ROSE before Dream Theater..try listening..He's awesome

  • this truly shows james's abilities. this is absolutely beautiful. he has such fantastic control of his falsetto. shows he can sing softly and agressively. simply amazing.

  • @PhantomDarkTheif This shows how amazing James USED to be. I don't think he'll ever be that good again...

  • this is extraordinary

  • @MasterUkacz You fucked up buddy.

  • Have anybody tabs for this acoustic wesion...?

  • the shorts are so short...

  • does anyone have tabs for this master piece? If so, pleeeeaase send them to me

  • I REALLY wish I had this in a really high quality

    it's so amazing

  • Labrie fucking blows, and he always he has. I didnt know out of tune singing could keep you in the worlds greatest progressive band for soo long.

  • @BiggDickJohnson He got food poisning while vacationing and while he was throwing up he ruptured his vocal chords. If you listen to the final note in Another Day and think he's bad I don't know what to even say to you.

  • @1QuestionEverything1 I know that story, it happens to be called studio magic, he rarely ever hits those notes live, it is mostly just in the recordings. Ive heard every song on every album, I know them by heart. It's just upsetting that a band of such world class musicians would have a member in the band who just doesnt have the pipes to sing live anymore. There are many singers who would be quite viable in Labries position.

  • @BiggDickJohnson and do you rock short shorts as well as he does? no.

  • @BiggDickJohnson Well that frankly complete bullshit, I have a catalogue of around 50 bootlegs between 91 and 95 of Labrie, and in the years of 91 - 94 he hits every note, nearly every night, not to mention exceeding them in almost all cases, his live performances then were infinately better then the studio work. The only times he didnt was a period oof a chest infection and small rupture when he started.

  • @BiggDickJohnson He hit them all the time back in the day, both because his vocal chords were younger and because he hadn't had the accident. He was among the best of the best when he was about 20. He would've even left DT if the other members hadn't told him to stay. It's not studio magic; if you know every song of every album by heart, you know that his vocals have been significantly less challenging in the last 10 years or so. Because he did indeed damage his vocal chords.

  • @BiggDickJohnson can you sing like he can? no? then shut up

  • @RyanTF2 Why would I want to sing like that? Haha

  • @BiggDickJohnson cos it's awesome!

  • I think for a guitarist to prove his worth, he or she must be as dextrous and brilliant acoustically as they are on an electric. Too many Guitarists these days rely upon the copious amounts of effects to aid their lack of skill and proficiency as musicians. Not enough time and effort is put in these days to Acoustic playing, partly due to the lack of exposure it's given by the modern industry. If u're an aspiring Guitarist, take my word, develop ur skills equally across both Electric n Acoustic

  • @Mcleod2daMax

Agreed but nothing wrong with playing an electric "like" and accoustic with finger style pieces and such. IMO!

I say this because it's what I do

  • @Mcleod2daMax I play on acoustic most of the time... But that's just because I find the acoustic more rewarding to play on. Can't let my RG gather dust!

  • @Mcleod2daMax thanx dad

  • @Daddios83 hahahaha

  • @Mcleod2daMax i agree, like Mustaine said "playing acoustic is like trying to have sex with your clothes on, its hard, but you know how to do it"

  • @Mcleod2daMax I couldn't agree more :-D

  • Fantastic, someone tab this out for guitar pro plz!

  • @krushruss Search the tab on ultimate guitar. It's there. Contact me if you have any suggestions or if you need help. Cheers

  • this song is so much better without the saxophone

  • @RushRulesRock It's a clarinet.

  • @1QuestionEverything1 nope, jay beckenstein played the soprano saxophone on that song

  • @1QuestionEverything1 no, Jay Beckenstein(Spyro Gyra) on Saxophone

  • haha how long ago was this? 90's?

  • Musica excelente!! (L) amo ;D

  • @luiz850

Asteroids Petrucci go away please !

  • @RaphaelFragelli

    they're called steroids ^^ lol

  • @RaphaelFragelli He doesn't take them lol. Wouldn't you rather have a healthy strong manly petrucci that will live longer and play music longer? Plus alot of people like the muscular look :D

  • young petrucci looks like young satch!

  • They are so in love they should come out.

  • @Itsallliesisay hahah :D

  • LaBrie sounded good before he ruined his voice. Petrucci sounds awesome and creative for once! Good performance!

  • LaBrie sounded good before he ruined his voice.

  • LaBrie's voice is so beautiful ._. I love his voice, it's angelical

  • Where was this video shot? I have been looking for the acoustic version of this they performed on the radio live in Milwaukee decades ago...

  • when was this recorded?

  • @luiz850: Petrucci '92 > Petrucci 2000 >>>>>>> Petrucci 2010

  • I Love this version

  • JP HAS NO FACIAL HAIRR!!! I can't believe it. This is the only time I've ever seen him without any facial hair.

  • why does it sound like it's all recorded through a leslie?

  • DGMRuadeil I know my friend, i was only wondering how weird it would B! Ahahhaaha! Embraces !

  • Rrsr,i think that If James sings like on cd version Petrucci's guitars never would be heard!

  • @TheFacilidade its also really hard to sing like that acousticly.. it makes it sound really odd and out of place

  • Awesome! Does this come from a DVD?

  • Great stuff... however, LaBrie sounds like a joke at 3.00.. why the hell did he went with falsetto??? I don't wanna say that he sounds like a bitch but... well XD

LOVE his open singing on the record though.

  • @KuraiX would you rather him belt it out? falsetto is better for mellow songs such as this one

  • palesemente petrucci non rende sulla chitarra acustica.

Per quanto mi riguarda come arrangiamento è appena passabile, penso.

  • Wow this is fantastic! I don't know which one I like better now haha. They're both about the same to me.

  • where did u get this vid man ???

  • petrucci did an amazing work on the solo, i think.

i know it's almost a cliche, but i really do prefer the petrucci of the early years. it's seems he was more for the music rather than the technique those days. he had the perfect balance between the two. i'm not saying i don't like what he do nowadays, but it seems he can't compose memorable solos anymore such as "under a glass moon", learning to live etc...

  • how old is labrie here?

  • How old is this video?

    It's so beautiful :)

  • look how young Petrucci is there

  • Ich liebe euch - schade das ihr das imernoch nicht wisst !

  • what year is? that

  • I love all the harmonics JP threw in there.

  • this song isn't as great without the saxophone part

  • petrucci has my favorite clean riffs of any guitarist
