my sheltie used to swim but my dad was stupid because hes so lazy and didn't want to dry him off because it required effort and freaked out on my dog for jumping into a lake and catching a fish. i felt like flipping out when i saw. How often do you see a dog try and catch a fish, let alone successfully do it right when they jump in.
Intially, he kept trying to escape by swimming sideways towards the edges. But after a while, he got the hang of it. I'm sure its instinctive... your sheltie would get it too!
@juzserenity lol when my dog was a pup, she would doggy paddle in her sleep so i tried something one day, i filled the tub with about 1 inch of water and held her over it and she was doggy paddling in the air, so funny, swimming must be instinctive
Wow! He's a really good swimmer! Did you train him or did he swim naturally? I would like to get a little pool for my Sheltie and see what she does, lol.

He was just thrown in the pool, really. Haha.
