How does a starlet handle? Doesn't it have a muscle car suspension? Won't it take a ton of custom fab to convert to a modern setup to make it handle better? I want something super light and rwd, but the axles and handling tech is ancient.
@carmodifire - If you have watched any of my race videos you should know ... I think they handle very well (bit to short to drift unless very skilled) but it can be done. doesnt take much to get it to handle well at all or go well and being toyota there is a big parts bin to select from when upgrading. good luck
@MrDermo101 - yeah they are still quite popular in NZ but its getting hard to find a good example anymore. most have been owned by young hoons and thrashed, or old nanas and not available yet
@sliderlm - havent had a 4k in this in about 7 years now. when i refer to the old engine i mean the original 4age i built (that run cams, bearings, scored bores, stuffed an oil pump etc etc .... this new 4age (current engine) is making 15% more torque and slightly more power than the old one ...
@coregate - you could use the K50 box behind the 3au corolla but it wont last long. Best box would be the T40/50 from 84-88 celica/corolla depending on what you wanted or a custom belhouse with w50-55 series supra boxes.
um .... no .. whats the point in reving to 11000 rpm when the peek power adn torque cut off at 7200rpm. more revs doesnt = more power, just more engine stress ...
Told you first time i met you you needed to pitch those extractors..........how many years it take for that advice to sink in lol good to see it finally going good dude look forward to seeing it in person sometime soon.
like the vid says i missed the last runs and that did get evened out .. once i changed the headers and retuned again it got even better. no clip though :(
this starlet is a silver top ay.. im lookin at doin the same thing but am unsure what to use as a g/box etc, as i can only seem to get a 4age16v ae86 motor or box. or a 20v4age with no box.. the boxes should just bolt up the same ay? ... i was thinking going for the ae86 putting a 20v head on it. if it would fit that way the mounting points should be the same or whatever... just what ever is the easiest option... bit lost here... advice?
yes silvertop. The 22spline t50 from any of the 84-88ish corollas/celicas/carinas is the best bet. can use the k50 from ae85 as it has right bellhouse but its not as stong. to put the 20 head on the 16 requires some work. goto club4ag for that one. i wouldnt do it but i have seen 7age20vs on teh track and they seem to go ok. good luck
113kw at 7000rpm. (the old engine was 126kw)... like i said in the description its makeing about 10% more power from 3000-7000 over the old engine so its more of a mid range machine now days as oppposed to top end.
Thats a funny motor to do the washing with lol ,
Love the 4Age !
NZ hard !

wich was the old engine, 4k? because by my point of view it gives much more power than 15%, unless the 4k would be prepared

You on megasquirt? Have you tried megalog viewer and analyzer? Heard it should auto tune the engine to its max performance.

Yes of course! Just take the rev limiter of, stap on the gas and wait till your pistons are smashing out of your bonnet...

I bet you'll gain another 5-10% if you ditch the socks. Those things really rob power.

Fair play mate that thing can rev. sounds absolutely awesum on the last run. I want that as a ringtone lol.

It sounds so gutless at low rpm, almost like it's ready to die, no offense, but it really does.
