It's the National Guard, they are for National Defense, while our Marines and soldiers are out fighting somewhere else the National Guard's duty is to protect our borders from invasion. Have been in for 6 years and I have 4 combat tours under my belt and I was deployed for two months in New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina in 2005, deployed to the California Mexico Border for 4 months and fought the forest fires in California in 2008 The Guard has two jobs,
One is to protect the country from any disaster with in the US from riots to terrorist attacks to natural disasters and the other is to fight the Wars for our country like we have for over 300 years. So when you say we only go for 2 days a year. Tell that to over 400,000 National Guard Soldiers that have served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, DarFur, New Orleans, Haiti, US Riots, Fires and so on.
When we are not on a Tour we serve one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year.
But since 9/11 we have been so busy that most of us are active with in the National Guard.
My unit is about to go to Afghanistan and we will be in charge of our own Battle Space. This will be the first time any National Guard Unit will have this honor. I would tell you the Unit but YouTube is not the place to say. It is very insulting when you show complete DISRESPECT towards Soldiers that have been fighting for this country for 370 years. No our country is not 370 years old I know that.

why wait to finish High School? You can join the National Guard at 17, and go to Basic Training the summer between your Junior and Senior year. Ship back to finish High School, and BAM off to Advanced Individual Training. And what you want to be depends on your ASVAB scores and personal goals. (BTW engieneer schooling is kinda long)

national guard is good if u think it's right for you. to be honest, don't limit yourself to one branch. look into all the branches and weigh the advantages and disadvantages. i did that, and it turned out taht the national guard was perfect for me. it's not for everyone though, so make sure you know you want it bad enough. i've seen too many people drop out and get discharged because they decided they didn't wanna do it.
It is absolutly worth it. I have been in for almost 10 years. I am a member of the Indiana National Guard and it is without doubt the best thing that I have ever done. I can say this after being on a member of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Enduring Mission, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.. so that must say something.

There are different contract types. The standard is a 6-year contract with with 2 additional years on a reserve list. There are also 3 and 5 year contracts avaliable, if i'm not mistaken.
I am in the Ohio Army National Guard and personally feel that it was the best decision I've made in my life. The Guard instills discipline, self-respect, and pride into all citizen-soldiers. I honestly can't think of ANY cons (at least not yet), as I enjoy everything the Guard has to offer.

you definitely won't regret it. and if you're joining with a buddy take advantage of the G-RAP (Guard Recruiters Assistance) program. If you recruit a friend then you're eligible for a $2,000 bonus (and sometimes a promotion, depending on your recruiter/unit). Its a great, easy way for some extra cash. Talk to your recruiter about it; they should be able to fill you in

The MOS 19D (Cavalry Scout) would be a good choice if you're looking for an infantry/field-type job. The Cavalry Scout is the commander's eyes and ears on the battlefield. When information about the enemy is needed, they call on the Scouts. Cavalry Scouts engage the enemy with anti-armor weapons and scout vehicles in the field, track and report enemy movement and activities, and will direct the employment of various weapon systems onto the enemy.
Oh yea I'm definatley looking into infrantry. It sounds like it would be very interesting thing to do. There will be a lot of different weapon systems to operate and all. And do CAV Scouts do dismounted operations like on foot or is it mosty vehicle based operations?

it is worth it , i was active army for 2 years an switched to the guard , bad part is bootcamp which is easier now standing around for long periods of time but infantry or a truck driver is the funnest mos, i was infantry an i broke my legs in falujah an the only thing i got out of it was a marine patch lol so now im a truck driver/ 88mic because they say my legs cant take it lol. both are very fun tho

yea actually the guard has a special forces unit , an half the people in the guard are prior active army, an we also have alot of marines so shove tha sas up your ass , i dont think the sas could take on a navy seal battalion , a ranger battalion, special forces battalion, or a united states marine corp recon battalion . america is the strongest fighting force in the world an over 50% of the forces that are over seas in afghanistan an iraq are reserve component

I know what the national Guard are, i didn't mean the regular sas/sbs i meant the TA (territorial army) units you idiot. Each regiment of the British Army have a territorial version. The TA are fully trained civilians who convert into regular soldiers at the outbreak of war. I'm in the TA, 6 Rifles infantry regiment.

I don't remember vietnam being a great victory. You do realise the sas is known by all to be the most elite regiment WORLDWIDE. In bosnia us troops were told by their government "Don't drink with the British, Don't gamble with the British and Don't fight with the British YOU WILL LOOSE!"

I don't care about the money, all i care about is, if they call me, I'll be right there, willing to fight for this great country, to serve and protect, to fight over there, so people like my family, and friends can sleep at night knowing their safe.

why wait to finish High School? You can join the National Guard at 17, and go to Basic Training the summer between your Junior and Senior year. Ship back to finish High School, and BAM off to Advanced Individual Training. And what you want to be depends on your ASVAB scores and personal goals. (BTW engieneer schooling is kinda long)

Actually, MarineInfantry350, the National Guard, as we know it, was formed by the Militia Act of 1903, and defined fully by the National Defense Act of 1916. At that time, roughly half of the Army's combat troops were National Guard. This meant that BOTH World Wars were fought with Guardsmen. In addition, 15 million Americans were drafted during WWII. They were CITIZENS turned SOLDIERS. I guess that you could even say that THEY were a National Guard; of sorts.

Yes, it was supposed to be the National Guard. Only, at that time, it was referred to as the State Militias.The Revolutonary War started on April 19,1775. The Continental Army was not formed until June 15, 1775. This means that for two months, the State Militias (NG) were the only fighting forces available to the Nation. And the Continental Army did not spring up fully armed and ready for battle; General Washington just organized the Militias into a cohesive fighting unit.

national guard is good if u think it's right for you. to be honest, don't limit yourself to one branch. look into all the branches and weigh the advantages and disadvantages. i did that, and it turned out taht the national guard was perfect for me. it's not for everyone though, so make sure you know you want it bad enough. i've seen too many people drop out and get discharged because they decided they didn't wanna do it.

It is absolutly worth it. I have been in for almost 10 years. I am a member of the Indiana National Guard and it is without doubt the best thing that I have ever done. I can say this after being on a member of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Enduring Mission, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.. so that must say something.

There are different contract types. The standard is a 6-year contract with with 2 additional years on a reserve list. There are also 3 and 5 year contracts avaliable, if i'm not mistaken.
I am in the Ohio Army National Guard and personally feel that it was the best decision I've made in my life. The Guard instills discipline, self-respect, and pride into all citizen-soldiers. I honestly can't think of ANY cons (at least not yet), as I enjoy everything the Guard has to offer.

you definitely won't regret it. and if you're joining with a buddy take advantage of the G-RAP (Guard Recruiters Assistance) program. If you recruit a friend then you're eligible for a $2,000 bonus (and sometimes a promotion, depending on your recruiter/unit). Its a great, easy way for some extra cash. Talk to your recruiter about it; they should be able to fill you in

The MOS 19D (Cavalry Scout) would be a good choice if you're looking for an infantry/field-type job. The Cavalry Scout is the commander's eyes and ears on the battlefield. When information about the enemy is needed, they call on the Scouts. Cavalry Scouts engage the enemy with anti-armor weapons and scout vehicles in the field, track and report enemy movement and activities, and will direct the employment of various weapon systems onto the enemy.

it is worth it , i was active army for 2 years an switched to the guard , bad part is bootcamp which is easier now standing around for long periods of time but infantry or a truck driver is the funnest mos, i was infantry an i broke my legs in falujah an the only thing i got out of it was a marine patch lol so now im a truck driver/ 88mic because they say my legs cant take it lol. both are very fun tho
