Simple and gorgeous. Love mine and every one I see on the road. The newer cars are fast yes, but the 308 is the car that saved Ferrari and should be held with high regard as such. If it weren't for the 308, the exceptional 458 wouldn't exist.
The thing about older Ferraris, whether they're 308s or F40s or classic Californias, is that when you see them, you know that there is an enthusiast behind the wheel, rather than some rich twat driving a leased 458.
It's a shame that some people give Ferrari a bad name :(
@HFLanciaStratos i agree. but i like the 458.... anyways.. ferrari isn't just about speed. its about appreciating a fine car that can go to 190 if needed but subtle enough to drive around. its about owning a nice car.
I saw one of these the other day near my house. The girl I was with didn't know why I was being all like "wow look at that!!". Prettiest Ferrari ever made (besides maybe the odd one from the 60s. How fast do they feel now compared to modern things?
i wish Ferrari would make a car like this again. it's so pure with that nice proper manual gear box. i don't mean to sound grumpy about the present because i love what people can do with cars nowadays, but the new Ferraris are like computer games, you have 2 pedals and a wheel and the car does the rest for you.
the 308 GTS was the last beautiful Ferrari to be produced, its such a classic and at the moment seriously good value, this car will turn more heads than any modern $250k supercar, after the 308 we got the blunt nosed sanitized 328, then the awful 348, the dated 355, and so on. The 308GTS is just a timeless design icon, beautiful from any angle, fantastic little car. The engines are bullet proof and the gear boxes work perfectly with the correct oil. Thanks for the clip, drive safely.
I love the fact that this car has the original steering wheel... I DO want a 308.. with this very wheel.. I don't know why I love it so much, but - MUST - HAVE!
Old Enzo Era Ferraris or EEF's as I'll call them from now on make music. They're engines are like veritible mechanical orchestras. You have a low baratone rumble at idle, which as you push the pedal builds progressively toward a beautiful soprano screaming cresendo, and this whole process happens five times. This music is the reason that most people say that the most worthless thing in a Ferrari is the radio. This is true of EEF's but not modern Ferraris. In fact, I think modern Ferraris...
Guys owning and driving a Ferrari is not just about speed, it's about the experience of being inside a rolling piece of art, prestige, heritage and mystique. Who cares how fast a Mitsubishi goes, or smoothly a Honda shifts.
The Ferrari will stop traffic while being parked!!
@LeBigMoneyShow These youngsters think it's all about speed, and "Oh, my more modern car can out run a 308, Testarossa, or other classic car. Thing is, in 5 years a Mitsubishi Lancer will be worth absolutely nothing, and be really tired, same for the smoothly shifting Honda. 5 years from now, the 308 will still be worth 30-52k or more, and will still be desirable and lusted after by many people. Also your right about Ferrari's being rolling art work. If you've seen one Mitsubishi Evo, you've
@LeBigMoneyShow seen them all, and civic are a nickel a dozen, nothing special. The 308 is probably the most recognisable Ferrari in history, and even though it is not as expensive, or fast as some more modern Ferraris and other exotics, it will still stop people dead in their tracks. Even people who don't cars for shit, know a 308 when they see one. Cheers.
@redmr2na Man you nailed it!! My 308 is not the most expensive or fastest, but I don't care, It is and will always be a Ferrari. After this one, I will be buying a 360 Modena spyder for sure. The funny thing is I don't want to part with my 308, and have a feeling I will own the Modena for a year + and then sell it anyway.
You can't beat the looks of the Magnum PI 308 in my book.
@LeBigMoneyShow See, that's the problem with most of the car companies today, then father figure is gone. Enzo has unfortunately been gone too long, and unfortunately Ferrari has suffered. The 308 was a created when Enzo was here, and he had the final say as to what it sounded like and looked like. He didn't just write off on a car, it had to please him in order to get the privalege to become a Ferrari. The Jack ass that is head of Ferrari now, seems all to eager to just sign off on any....
@LeBigMoneyShow project. Enzo era Ferraris are the ones I have the upmost respect for. They are the ones that should be cherished and will become even more sout after then the Ferraris of today. Not only do Ferraris not look beautiful today as they did when Enzo was here, but they don't sound beautiful either. Ferraris today are all high pitched and whiney, and rather annoying. Part of the Ferrari magic for me is hearing the beautiful Enzo Era Ferrari music, which is part of the experiance
Nice vid. You must have put new synchros in the 'box to be able to make a 1-2 upshift that fast ;)
I've had a few 308s, and although none of them had the 2nd gear issue (luckily), I could never shift them that quickly! I ran Red Line 75W-90 N/S in the transaxles and always skipped 2nd until the gear oil warmed up a little bit. Presumably, you do the same given the good condition of your trans?
@SeeProfileForDetails The car's from 1977 man -_- I'm not much of a Ferrari fan but I saw one of these driving today so decided to hop on youtube and search it. They're not very fast (he couldn't keep pace with my 2.0L turbo Mitsubishi haha), but man it sounded awesome and had crazy road presence!
@snowdevl they are aesthetically pleasing, i just wonder why people brag about how these cars are difficult to shift - as if this is somehow a bonus, like you are getting what you are paying for - when a cheap honda shifts easier. If one wanted to win a formula one race, he'd have to shift quickly.
If anyone is considering one of these cars, my advice to you is ,do it! you won't regret, I am planning on getting a gtb next but going to keep my gt4 too, they are affordable to have at the momment as long as you look after them and keep the oil clean, the engines are quite easy to work on, although i leave the belts and points to a mechanic, it is easy to change oil, clutch etc, so if your considering? go for it!!!
beautifull, sounds just like my 308gt4, people forget how old these cars are and even today, the engineering on them is out of this world, imagine what it was like in the 70s!, I love these cars, I hope you have many years of enjoyment from yours too, thanks so much for posting, amazing.
Liam993cc, don't be a fucking dork. This guy did just fine considering the clutch and shifter characterisitics of the car. Obviously, you've never driven one, and you're the type of idiot who would waste 7k milkes in clutch trying to get it started from second gear because you know nothing about 308s.
