If it won't work, try looking for a tutorial of how to make a portal to nether.

@Habbitwilldevil Diamond pick is recommended for breaking obsidian(black block). And you make the portal to nether by stacking 4 blocks above it, 3 next to the above, and 4 below the next. Then, get flint to light it up, or fire.

If you are in the Nether, the ghast can uncharge the portal if it's blast hits it. It can be recharged again if it hit by it's blast.
