This Robert Johnson dude has the vintage look & sound down pat! He’s obviously extensively studied the old blues guys from the 20’s & 30’s. I’ve never heard of him before, probably because he needs to get better management & public relations. Like, where’s the magazine & TV interviews, & live performance clips? He could be big. But I bet he listens to rap when he’s by himself at home.
cara simplesmente ele foi o mestre se nao fosse por ele nao haveria nada do que se conhece por musica boa hoje ..... so tenhu a agradecer.. thanks man *-----*
Happy Hundreth Birthday, Mr. Johnson - 8 May 2011
You inspired so many.....Clapton, Keith, and so many more to chop wood with their axes. But mostly, you inspired me cause I know you didn't make a deal but rather worked your ass off.......no shortcuts. Thanx Pops.
For my money, this is the very first rock and roll record. And what absolute great stuff it is!!! I realize there are other great candidates like Love in Vain, but his one just really says it for me.
That's one of the most desgraceful things I've ever seen, even on Youtube. You oughta read some history, and see that his playing made whoever you are or what artists you are listening to - if you're into modern music.
@tencr4z if u ask the african "american" folks, some of them say blues started in africa before they even went to america...which makes me think, if that's true, why didn't it come to the UK too when they came here :-s
He only does it for attention as he is insecure and lacks confidence, well he got the attention that's for sure. The greatest insult any man can give me is to ignore my presence. Postscript you don't have to acknoledge this thread just ignore me.
I did one of his things once, "Walkin' Blues", but I mean, nobody could match that thing he had. Django does the same thing to me, you know, Django Reinhardt I mean. He's also one of my real heroes, I mean really on a par with Johnson and the other blues guys. If I had even 1% of his talent, I'd be made up.
Slowtubbi, great song thanks for adding it. From what i have read about Robert Johnson . He did his recordings in Texas both times.First time in November ,1936. At the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio and the recordings in Dallas were at the old Brunswick Record Building on Park Ave . These Recordings were done sometime in 1937 .Not sure where Park Ave is or if it is still around. Thanks for Keeping It real .......TxKoyote
my thoughts on why thier would be such accusations of devil possesion or selling his soul .."the blues musician with that scary kinda sound....who made it enough to inspire"...He grew up in a world of rightless depression....
He played the blues, and where do u think the blues came from? His environment. The kind of environment that is the generation after slavery. The kind of environment that the blues is about. He came from a troubled home, and pry didnt learn about anything but troubled times and of course the religion, christianity. all he knows is trouble and that if u dont do things a certain way, a christian way, U Were Goin' Ta Hell...
...so i believe that he didnt care about strict religious beleifs and he lived life the way he wanted. A ramblin' man with kids and AFFAIRS...EVERYWHERE. he loved lust and abused manythings im sure. But this also does not mean he sold his soul. I think the things he did and the careless way he did them is why, i believe, such accusations BACK THEN (1920-30) would be made for such an amazing, inspiring, and out of this world (for those times) artist.
I don't believe he sold his soul, but since most of the folk at the time were so superstitious that would have been the logical explanation to them at the time. I would have to make a educated guess as to what he meant by the word "Devil" Hell hound" etc. I would think he was referring to either the KKK on his trail (since during that time there was oppression towards Africans), jealous husband or just women hounding him. Just my observation to his lyrics.
Cause he was so damn good and got that way so damn fast, plus the fact that he died young (27 years old just like Hendirx, Morrison, Joplin, and Cobain!), some people think it must have been the devil that made him like that.
@iLDNdave son house said before that rj was a lousy guitar player... but then he was gone for a year, and came back as a guitar god... that what make ppl think he met a devil, tuned his guitar, sold his soul...
love that image of r.j. above. he really has some passion in his voice on this one. he really relates to the rambling subject matter. guess his life consited of being someplace different all the time.

Actually that's not a ''root'' it's a ''clasic blues''... The roots are far far behind from that... And that's the blues of Robert Johnson..

would this be considered a high tempo song? i have to play a jazz blues high tempo american standard. I like this. HELP!! RIP johnson.

I don't believe he sold his soul, but since most of the folk at the time were so superstitious that would have been the logical explanation to them at the time.
