Ali is lucky he had long arms or he'd be crap. he's pants at keeping his hands up... and doesnt have the best skills... he was durable as hell though. thats one of the few things i will give him...
no wonder he has problems now, gets hit too much and his "headmovement" is leaning back and thats about it...
at the end of rd 6 the commentators all like "look at the combinations" its like... ok he threw 2 fairly lazy jabs and a right hand... whats your point?
@NateTheG0v one of the few things you will give him haha. I'm sure Muhammad Ali and all the other great boxers are sat in their mansions waiting for the opinion of NateTheG0v. Muhammad Ali is not over rated, he is a great boxer.
@NateTheG0v That's ridiculous, man, It's like saying "If [whatever boxer] didn't have an unnaturally efficient CNS, he'd have shit reflexes and he'd be crap. Top-level boxers are born fighters, guys with natural attributes that set them apart from the norm, and playing them to their fullest is what makes them world champions,
@NateTheG0v I understand where you coming from. Ali's reach did give him a big advantage but he probably wouldn't box the way he did if he didn't have that reach. His stamina and manipulation is what caused him to beat so many people. Ali is one of the quickest of all time too and he had power. It's a reason he's known as the greatest
People even now talk about how everything was against Foreman, the country, the racket outside his hotel the eve of the fight, etc., and how had they fought afterwards in the States he'd have killed Ali. BULLSHIT! Ali had his number from day one, as long as he remained Ali he'd have beaten George. Far more experienced and knowledgeable than the kid who first won the title, he was fighting a man bigger and younger than Liston but otherwise far less fearsome: beating Frazier was an upset remember.
both fighters are legends, foreman dont look like his usual self, he looks slow and sluggish, almost like hes drunk, if you watch some of his previous fights hes alot better fighter than this is portraying, not that im taking owt away from ali coz he had a plan and exicuted it, and is an amazing fighter, just wonder if they would fought again, would it be same out come!!!!
@squizzy84 Thats right, but i think Goerge was a little anxious about what performance Ali could show. And in the first round Ali didn`t back up, that might have insecured George too. Than the big shots that Ali took without any effect - George is a great one no doubt, but here he faced the greatest.
forman could not even get a clean punch in when Ali was standing still.....he was swinging wildley like a schoolkid........trying to get the one punch off...........!
Think about the missing years, 67-70. Ali missed some of the best of his physical prime, ages 25-28.
But he got a lot smarter. Foreman was a babe in the woods, boxing smarts-wise. Foreman took a psychological beating too. He still had a decent career after fighting Ali. I think Ali owned him after this fight though. I don't think Foreman would have ever been able to beat Ali.
Still amazed by Ali's hand speed and punch accuracy.
fali let foreman punch himself out whoever think it was fixxed ur on crack and must be a pacman fan because only his fan would say something like that lol
This was absolutely fixed! The only person who ever got after Ali's Ass was Joe Frazier. He beat Ali that one time. However, the man who destroyed Frazier threw this fight. As far as Mike Tyson is concerned, the Foreman that came back to boxing would have destroyed Tyson just like he did Frazier. Tyson was brilliant and ducked his ass-whoopin' because that is what would have happened.
@triggert531 I agree bro. Foreman killed guys who went the distance or beat Ali. He had a great moment here but the circumstances wrere f'd up. They fought in Africa at 3 in the morning and Foreman looks thin here. Not making excuses but GF was the beast of the 70's. Ali barely skated by Frazier and Ken Norton. Big George destroyed those guys - like not even close and then won the world title at 40! when Ali could hardly fight.
@aitraining Come on, you can't discredit this BIG win by Ali. People who discredit this win really is just a hater. Ali proved he was one of the greatest by beating one of the greatest in George Foreman, who hit harder and had an invincible aura no one ever had. I have no problem in saying that Foreman is probably in the top 3 greatest heavyweights but Ali beat him, no excuses should be made really. Ali is considered the greatest but one reason he is, is because he beat Foreman.
@vladiator100 I hear ya and by no means discredit THIS win. Foreman was THE beast then BUT this fight was f'd up going off at 3 in the morning and Ali really never dominated other great fighters of the 70's that Foreman destroyed. (Norton, Frazier) and while he avenged the loss in the rematch - the guy lost to Leon Spinks??? Foreman came back 20 yrs later and still kicked ass. Ali a great fighter, but not the greatest. HE gave himself that title. JOE LOUIS fits that bill.
The only person that would give Tyson a little trouble is Ali. Forman. Had no head moment no accuracy. All he did was throw wide hay makers. Same with Frazier all he had was a left hook. Tyson had the best head movement of any heavyweight. The best footwork of anyheavywaight and was just as fast as Ali.
I've studied all these fighters and don't be surprised if they hit tge floor like the rest of Tysons opponits the sports evolved and Tyson is a result of that
@ferrarimike23 For starters Frazier had a lot of head movement, and he could keep it up for longer than 2-3 rounds (Something Tyson struggled at). He would have had a hard time keeping up with Ali because Ali could move very quickly for a heavyweight, and just kept hitting them with the jab as he backed up and he could do this well into this 30's (Something Tyson definatly couldnt do) The only hope tyson would have is to knock Ali out in the first two rounds,if he didnt Ali would have ruined him
same trick used by stallone in rocky. first u act as a victim let the opponent come to you just when u r at the ring side used the ring as a support and bounce back. good trick invented by ali's coach.
ali worked well with his back against the ropes, great defence and waited for his time, didnt give foreman the chance to smash him down. he realised it was working early in the match and just kept it up

A pathetic poser who preened as a rebellious anti-establishment figure in the sixties pretending to be dangerously satirical, when all along he saw this as the new establishment forming which he then became a fully integrated part of. @blackoil911 That was not a prime Tyson, watch a prime Tyson destroy world class fighters like Larry Holmes (48-2) , Michael Spinks (31-0), Trevor Berbick (31-4), Tony Tucker (34-0), Tyrell Biggs (15-0), Tony Tubbs (24-1), Pinklon Thomas (29-1). You can't say these were bad fighters.
@blackoil911 People like you just go off the subject by talking suphisticated rubbish and forgetting what you initially said, look down and your statement basically reads 'Tyson couldn't beat Ali because he had a shorter reach than him by about 20 inches'. Number 1 this is a terrible exaggeration because Tyson's reach was 71" and Ali's was 80" so the advantage is only 9". Secondly, the fact that Ali had a longer reach does not matter because Tyson beat guys like Bruno and Tucker 82", Holmes 81".
@saintcasper91 This is not a prime Ali either. 62-68 is Ali's prime. Tyson couldn't touch Ali at any equivalent point in their careers. Remember Tyson lost in the Olympic trial tourney 6 years before being K.O. ed by Douglass, and you're trying to compare him to THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME? No fighter in history (including Ray Robinson) was better than Ali in his prime.
@kingq01 In his prime, Tyson was the greatest. Pound for pound Ali is not the greatest, he was knocked down in his prime by Banks, Cooper and Frazier and then by Wepner, Ray Robinson was the greatest, as agreed by ESPN . Olympics is amateur boxing, can't be compared to pro boxing.
@saintcasper91 Well, I read your comment claiming Tyson to be the greatest p4p. That is nonsense. Ali never fought Frazier in his prime (none of the 3 fights). Also agreed by ESPN Ali was the greatest athlete of the Century over Jordan, Gretzky, and Ruth. Greatest athlete not just boxer. Everyone says Jordan and Gretzky are the greatest in their sports. If Ali is a greater athlete than them doesn't that make him the greatest boxer?
@kingq01 does Espn only recognise North American stars? What about Steve Redgrave winning endurance rowing gold medals in five straight olympics until he was 40.
@multipleman78 North America mostly recognizes athletes of sports that are popular to North Americans. It doesn't matter where you are from, more less what you compete in. Rowing is not very popular in North America. American Football, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, and Golf are Americas most popular sports.
@kingq01 i understand that but i thought Americans liked the Olympics. Here in the Uk we are hardly big on rowing either. In the world of sport, Redgrave's achievements are unmatched anywhere in the World. I just thought it was worth a mention. Apart from him, the greatest sportsman ever in terms of distance from his rivals is Don Bradman in cricket. The 2nd best batsmen ever averaged 60.97 runs at bat. Bradman's career average was 99.94. No one is even close to that kind of dominance.
1:05 Foreman looks drunk and a bit paralysed, i don´t think the story about someone poisening his drink is true but something tells me he ran completetly out of stamina here and is clearly not fresh enough to continue fighting a fired up Ali! He had allready lost the fight here, and people still didn´t knew before he layed on the canvas two rounds later!
@jimpurdie "The Washing Machine" Ken Norton was "The Mummy" for the way he dragged his foot around the ring. The way George threw his punches resembled the aggitator in a washing machine, according to Ali.
Dundee had tampered with the ropes before the fight. Never has there been ropes as loose as they were in this fight. Listen to the audio here, when they went to tighten the ropes dundee started roaring at them to stop. He knew those super loose ropes were a massive advantage, it took a huge amount of weight and power off foremans punches. Dundee you cheater. Even went they went to stop this cheating tactic, you wouldn't let them. Dundee you are slime.
@XavierMarciano Its about as cheap as Sugar Ray Leonard forcing duran to fight after his massive partying. Get over it. Even with loose ropes, most fighters would've caved in from Foremans shots in the first 5 rounds. You've never been hit when leaning on ropes even loose ropes. I HAVE. And I'll tell you it hurts like hell. imagine what Ali must have felt
@XavierMarciano I thought we heard Dundee shouting at Ali to get off the ropes. The ropes are never that tight, always loose enough to do what Ali did, Dundee was only preventing an unfair change to the environment that Ali was legally making smart use of.
ali fights smart useing the rope-a-dope to perfect effect in this fight, its skillful and very exciting, you just don't get the rumble in the jungle atmosphere anymore
@mrcru1664 when king dies sponsors will come back to boxing and boxing will skyrocket, sponsors dont want anything to do with don king, and when the thug dies
top fights will be on normal free tv like old times of the 70s and fans wont be robbed by ppv prices as sponsors will cover the financial side and well see mega fights away from vegas hotels where theres no atmosphere unless ricky hatton is fighting, and big title fights will be outdoors like yankee stadium cowboys stadium wembley etc.
@jimpurdie Don King not the big player in boxing right now. Arum & Golden Boy r running boxing into the ground now, & together they can't close the May vs. Pac Fight. I agree King has fucked over ppl, but Arum has been & is still now fucking the boxing fans with no greese, this is the man that keeps Pacman fighting all of his in house fighters Pacman vs. Margarito what a joke. Margarito in no way should be fighting Pacman. I guess all fighters need to do to is follow what Margarito doing, Cont.
@jimpurdie Cont. pt. 2 Loading ur gloves, get caught, get K.O'ed by Mosley, get suspended for a year & then get a Mega fight with Pac. I think we as boxing fans will not see fights on normal TV. And thats not Kings fought, times change.
I didn't much care for Ali but this fight really defines him as a great fighter. To knock out a younger stronger Big George Forman defines him as one or perhap the greatest of all times. Look beyond him as a fighter and you find a man who did a lot of good outside the ring to. And he isn't my favorite fighter but I call them as I see them.
Damn, Foreman is a big motherfucker. That sucker was built like Hercules! Notice how strong Ali is. He takes tremendous head and body shots like they're nothing, then grabs Foreman with those strong clinches, amazing!
@JamelleFunk770717 I don't think you appreciate Ali's tactics or intelligent fighting...he lured Foreman in waited til he was tired and beat him with counters. Job done. Doesen't matter that Foreman was more powerful or apparently a better boxer. None of that matters when you are dealing with a guy like Ali. Its mind over matter & Foreman was out boxed plain & simple.
Sorry but Foreman was the Greatest Fighter Ever in his prime. Ali was lucky by a million in one chances he fought him at the right only time. Both of them should have fought more than once. I garantee Foreman would have won 2 out of 3 fights between them. Foreman should have killed Ali when he fought him. Something was wrong and fluke about that fight in Zaire. Foreman was way fuckin more powerful than Frazier and Norton. He should have destroyed Ali.
LOL@ Ali at 4:34 to 4:48 making faces at Foreman as if to say "oooh you in trouble, Sucka"......Thats an example of Ali's mind game. Screwin' with Foreman's head. A TIRED Foreman.
Ali is ruleless! Its is holding the head of Foreman all the time. And the referee does not says anything. Is this the biggest fight of the history? Bullshit. There are a lot greater fights, and more clean. Look what happen when in Manila the referee called the attention to Alí by holding Frazier head all the time. Ali stopped to do that, and after the fight we has pissing PURE blood. The same would happen if he would fought Foreman CLEAN.
Even though it was weak (by round 7, Foreman was exhausted) he clearly surprrised Ali at 05:02... imagine the horrible damage it would do if Foreman had landed one of those in the first rounds... Ali would be hurt... but still would go on to win!
when you see the replay at the begining forman was lost cause ali kept acting like he was gonna swing like when you pump your shoulders and cock your hands back to like scare a friend when your play fighting ... take a look and youl understand what i mean only thing ali wasnt playing.. lol its funny forman doesnt know where the punches are comming from
Jeez, i like foreman, but here, Ali really did rope a dope

@kingq01 i understand that but i thought Americans liked the Olympics. Here in the Uk we are hardly big on rowing either. In the world of sport, Redgrave's achievements are unmatched anywhere in the World. I just thought it was worth a mention. Apart from him, the greatest sportsman ever in terms of distance from his rivals is Don Bradman in cricket. The 2nd best batsmen ever averaged 60.97 runs at bat. Bradman's career average was 99.94. No one is even close to that kind of dominance.

themooddisorders 1 year ago
1:05 Foreman looks drunk and a bit paralysed, i don´t think the story about someone poisening his drink is true but something tells me he ran completetly out of stamina here and is clearly not fresh enough to continue fighting a fired up Ali! He had allready lost the fight here, and people still didn´t knew before he layed on the canvas two rounds later!

Foreman did not care.
TheFurkan1987 1 year ago
@TheFurkan1987 bullshit why was he depressed for 13 years then? ali talked in the clinches saing your the MUMMMMMY!
jimpurdie 1 year ago
@jimpurdie "The Washing Machine" Ken Norton was "The Mummy" for the way he dragged his foot around the ring. The way George threw his punches resembled the aggitator in a washing machine, according to Ali.
kingq01 1 year ago
@kingq01 no george was the mummy the way he walked slowly about with his arms out.
jimpurdie 1 year ago
@jimpurdie You may be right. I think George was both. I do remember something about Ali saying George didn't have any movement.

XavierMarciano 1 year ago
@XavierMarciano Its about as cheap as Sugar Ray Leonard forcing duran to fight after his massive partying. Get over it. Even with loose ropes, most fighters would've caved in from Foremans shots in the first 5 rounds. You've never been hit when leaning on ropes even loose ropes. I HAVE. And I'll tell you it hurts like hell. imagine what Ali must have felt
POTATER1228 1 year ago
@XavierMarciano I thought we heard Dundee shouting at Ali to get off the ropes. The ropes are never that tight, always loose enough to do what Ali did, Dundee was only preventing an unfair change to the environment that Ali was legally making smart use of.
Kydos37 1 year ago
@XavierMarciano Foreman wasn't crying for a rematch, Ali shook up George's confidence.

ali fights smart useing the rope-a-dope to perfect effect in this fight, its skillful and very exciting, you just don't get the rumble in the jungle atmosphere anymore

@mrcru1664 when king dies sponsors will come back to boxing and boxing will skyrocket, sponsors dont want anything to do with don king, and when the thug dies
top fights will be on normal free tv like old times of the 70s and fans wont be robbed by ppv prices as sponsors will cover the financial side and well see mega fights away from vegas hotels where theres no atmosphere unless ricky hatton is fighting, and big title fights will be outdoors like yankee stadium cowboys stadium wembley etc.
jimpurdie 1 year ago
@jimpurdie Don King not the big player in boxing right now. Arum & Golden Boy r running boxing into the ground now, & together they can't close the May vs. Pac Fight. I agree King has fucked over ppl, but Arum has been & is still now fucking the boxing fans with no greese, this is the man that keeps Pacman fighting all of his in house fighters Pacman vs. Margarito what a joke. Margarito in no way should be fighting Pacman. I guess all fighters need to do to is follow what Margarito doing, Cont.
CorDova07x 1 year ago
@jimpurdie Cont. pt. 2 Loading ur gloves, get caught, get K.O'ed by Mosley, get suspended for a year & then get a Mega fight with Pac. I think we as boxing fans will not see fights on normal TV. And thats not Kings fought, times change.
Peace

I didn't much care for Ali but this fight really defines him as a great fighter. To knock out a younger stronger Big George Forman defines him as one or perhap the greatest of all times. Look beyond him as a fighter and you find a man who did a lot of good outside the ring to. And he isn't my favorite fighter but I call them as I see them.

Damn, Foreman is a big motherfucker. That sucker was built like Hercules! Notice how strong Ali is. He takes tremendous head and body shots like they're nothing, then grabs Foreman with those strong clinches, amazing!
bangitslo 1 year ago
@JamelleFunk770717 I don't think you appreciate Ali's tactics or intelligent fighting...he lured Foreman in waited til he was tired and beat him with counters. Job done. Doesen't matter that Foreman was more powerful or apparently a better boxer. None of that matters when you are dealing with a guy like Ali. Its mind over matter & Foreman was out boxed plain & simple.
j3z72 1 year ago

I think the natural ability of Ali is way greater than any boxer he fought.

Even though it was weak (by round 7, Foreman was exhausted) he clearly surprrised Ali at 05:02... imagine the horrible damage it would do if Foreman had landed one of those in the first rounds... Ali would be hurt... but still would go on to win!
