Hey, I didn't know Alan Menken could sing! I knew he was an amazing composer, but I didn't know he had a good voice as well. Of course, it's rough around the edges, but so is Jim... it fits him surprisingly well (even though I knew it was intended for Aladdin).

This was cut from Aladdin b/c it wasn't finished by the time Ashman had died from complications from AIDS (yes, he was gay). Aladdin had a mother in the movie who was cut; I think the song works better in this movie, which is a bit more serious than Al.

I don't think it being cut from Aladdin had anything to do with Ashman's death. The film's story simply changed and morphed so many times that eventually they just couldn't fit it in anymore without it feeling out of place.

He did, but Howard Ashman sang the original and created the song. Howard died before the song could have been put into the film. But they had to get rid of the song because they were changing the story. It's sad really :(

Howard Ashman was a wonderfull person. He was a Disney Legend. I feel awfully sad that he passed away in March 11 of 1991. This was the last Disney song he wrote and they cut it off.

Kinda sorta. I believe she was in the first few drafts, so Menken and Ashman wrote this song, but then she was written out, so they couldn't use the song.

Yes. In some of the earliest versions of the "Aladdin" he actually had a mother, but they decided to take her out of the final version, because it just didn't work in the way the writers wanted it too.
