I wonder if Tu-154 is still used on international routes. I lived a short distance away from Helsinki-Vantaa airport (HEL), and could recognice the Tu's (134 and 154) by their noise. The early DC-9s were not much quieter.
@badboiant29 Yeah, it doesn't meet emissions standards but that's it. In terms of safety they are top notch. Blame the airlines that fly them for the crashes. It's up to them to keep them at a safe standard
@superjta59 I'm flying with BH Air this August and it would be great to be able to fly on one. Don't get me wrong, A320's are good aircraft but they're so boring compared to this
@aspiringdrummer17 Even though I don't see this aircraft here in America, it's definitely better than the Airbus A320. Are you flying to Sofia, Varna, where?
@Jimb0tr0n I couldn't agree with you more! I've always loved the look of the TU-114, the TU-134 and especially the TU-154! :) I don't think anyone could ever take a back picture of this airplane! :)
@satojinnthehero Tu-154 production started in 1970, while first passenger flight was performed at 9 February 1972. Powered by Kuznetsov NK-8-2 turbofans, it carried 164 passengers. About 42 were built. Tail numbers from 85006 to 8505 (wiki/Tupolev_Tu-154)
If my life depended on it I would fly in a well maintained TU154M before I put my foot in a Boeing or Airbus, or any other bird. Love the 154, best dependable, rugged, heavy aircraft ever built.
Tu-154's have only 37 hull-losses which were never caused by mechanical failure! Now look at B737, B727, B747... all three have over 100 hull-losses! So don't even bring Boeing when talking about aircraft safety....
@ArmAFan Those 100 hull losses are not caused by mechanical failure. Second, soviet union probably blamed pilot error rather than their bad maintenance. Third, 747, 737 and 727 have much more flight hours than all russian aircrafts.
Accident rate per flights is much better with 747 and 737 than TU-154, im not sure about 727.
I would sh*t myself if i saw that plane taxi up to the gate I was waiting at! Horrible plane, boeing and airbus rule! And plus, the only airplanes you hear about crashing are mostly russian in all honesty. Not all, but the majority. I wouldn't feel safre flying on a russian plane, very ugly also! BUT that's just my opinion! So don't all start bitching at me!
@KingOfPopLive : right, "you hear", plz try to listen more. Because you're wrong: in the last 20 airplane accidents, only 1 were russian-made (actually this one, a Tu-154, but not for technical reasons) and 2 ukrainian. In those 20 you'll find 8 (eight!) Boeing group planes, 3 Airbus and 2 brazilian Embraer. See airsafe.com/events/
@KingOfPopLive Ok The Most Russian Planes Crash of Pilot Errors... and Boeings & Airbus crash of Technical Malfunctions.... i think this is more dangerous because if a captain makes a mistake than you can correct him, but a big technical error means... youre dead man
@TurkishRapVideoz Bullshit, pilot error is biggest cause of all crashes. Why would soviet made planes be better than western made planes when everything else was worse in soviet union than in west?
@KingOfPopLive There seems to be a lot of relaying info from other comments without any background knowledge here. From my own following of the news i've only seen boeing and airbus crashes reported. Russian planes are completely safe if maintained correctly, and if they were flying with a recognised european airline then i would expect them to be well maintained. And i agree they are pretty ugly haha :)
I have flown on these wonderfull aircraft on 4 occasions and love them, the sound is breath taking and so is the runway performance, I too get fed up with hearing about their saftey record since if you read into the facts regarding TU154 losses you will find that the vast majority of crashes are nothing to do with the design or reliability of this plane.
Cabbageowen you will have a job as unfortunatly balkan use western aircraft now. you dont know what your missing! one of the most heavily engineered aircraft out is the Ty-154M. Like the British VC-10 you couldnt be in a safer aircraft.
@aceridgey English or not english that's not the point...My advice to you is to reed some more next time before putting comments about the things you obviously don't know...
There is plenty of speciallized literature about this plane, read some.
For example TU5's wing is known as "elastic wing",which gives the plane more stabillity and comfort in the air compared to the earlier Boeing and Mcdonnell Douglas models...
That's a great soundtrack! I love the Tu-154 unfortunately it doesn't come to DUS anymore, since Aeroflot,S7 Siberia and Rossiya changed them für Airbuses A 319/20.
