@TheOz91 Sort of - they are often used interchangeably, although I (matchmover on the film) tend to think of 'motion tracking' as just the 2D tracking side of thing - placing and tracking markers in 2D space, while 'matchmoving' covers the entire process from setting up the footage for tracking, through to solving the 3D position of the camera and adding basic scene geometry.
I'm really stunned! How could someone possibly get this roboter interacting with a car? o.O Great job, only the animations weren't perfect and maybe a bit too slow...
But next time we'll get sort of Tranformers 10 with some story behind it! :D
wow... I think that this is an AMAZING film! I thought that you guys did a stunning job with the special effects; the camera angles are fantastic! I liked the story line, and I can't wait to see what else you guys do :) GO NZ!!!!!!!!
I admire this work guys! I saw a but of it on close up, I am aiming to be a director when I'm older, and have just started high school. May I ask what program you used?
@iBradSinclair Thank you! If you check the description there's a list of programs we used, but I guess the main ones were After Effects, Premiere and Blender (which is free, so if you're looking to learn some 3D animation stuff it's a good place to start). Best of luck!
Awesome guys! saw abit of this on close up and was blown away by the quality. I'm a 26 female and this inspires me to maybe give this sort of thing a try, with a little kiwi thinking things can be done, I love you guys, thanks for the inspiration
@cardfreakable Haha, yeah. We originally shot most of the film in 3D, so for a lot of the rotoscoping there was twice as much work to be done - glad it wasn't my job :P
I'm another who saw it on the news. I was hoping it was on YouTube. Glad to find it. You guys are really talented and only 17! Amazing. The only way is up, guys. Keep going. For the last 6 months, I've been thinking about making my own movie trailer (for a never-to-be-made film), just for fun. I don't have all the skills you do (or the equipment), but seeing your work has motivated me to get to the doing stage and out of the thinking stage..lol. Thanks guys.
You guys totally blow me away!!! So incredibly talented and committed!! NZ Film Makers you are and to be watched out for in the for certain! Music soundtrack was awesome too - congrats to those guys too! I hope this goes global!!
@mark84j Thanks! People seem to under-estimate the quality of some smaller cameras.
The opening shot was filmed using a jib-arm we built attached to a trailer, moving slowly along the road. It had to be stabilized afterwards and sped up a fair bit. We've got a few photos on our Facebook page showing the jib arm (link in the description)
@cardfreakable Hi there. Very rarely is it necessarily to actually get your Blender models into AE, most of the time you just need to render out the animation in Blender then composite the outputted sequence over your video footage in AE.
If you do need to get your models into AE, Google 'Blender AE export' and there should be a script you can use.
Really enjoyed this short guys, the animation was great, and the whole vibe made for a really interesting story line! Looking forward to future films from you guys!
Fantastic

Is matchmoving another term for motion-tracking?
