  • This looks great! Your setup looks clean and well organized. I do the same thing, set it up in a locking metal cabinet, pre-designed with all of the breakers, cables, and disconnects. If you ever want one with a smaller footprint and designed for quick setup, see us at

    backuppowersource

  • Can you use this inverter as the xantrex hybrid unit ? ...The xantrex has a setting in where you dont want to sell the excess of energy...in addition if you exceed the xantrex power....it will do what is know as grid support...if you xantrex is 4000 watts and you start something like 10,000 watts...the remaining 6000 will be pull from the grid. There are cases that a Utility company dont want to change the meter..hence you cant go backward on the meter.

  • Hay I like ur vid can u talk about like how much electric u make and how much u made Ty send me a message back I am looking forward to more vid and Ty agen

  • Hey kevin,

Is that just a 120V plug you connecte to the outputs and run into you grid? If so how many amp breaker is it going too? thanks I'm kinda new at this. Did the outback just detect where you battery bank is and grid tie? I looked throug the manual and didnt see it. Thanks for the help.

  • Hey Kevin, Great videos! But I'm confused on these grid-tie inverters. Since the grid has 2 legs of 120 volts out of phaze, how well can one 120 volt grid-tie inverter work? I assume it can only feed loads on the one leg it is connected too, correct? Back feeding one leg is sufficient to spin the meter backwards? Perhaps I don't understand the grid. I assumed you'd need to back-feed both 120v legs. I enjoy the videos, soon I'll post some of my tinkering, just in the middle of a CNY winter now.

  • That is awesome. The whole system. The generator is very quiet! Great Job!

  • just think how much easier it would be if we ran on DC like the majority of the planet. - we wouldn't have to worry about power loss in an inverter - or even buying an inverter...

  • Nice system. where did you get the DC disconnects? the ones with the red dial.

    Jeff

  • @jeffmolly1 Those are made by Bluesea. If you go to there wb site they make fantastic stuff but its not cheep. They specialise in marine but it is a perfect fit for alternative energy.

  • I really like your videos Kevin & hope to get some advice from you. I'm looking to buy some Sharp 167 watt panels that I found for $224 each. Their max power voltage is 22.8v & their max power current is 7.02 amps. I want to get an Outback inverter like yours & I want to make sure they are a good fit.

  • i see kevin

oh i forgot to say the videos are great mate

im having a real hard time deciding which way to go with my solar

    all the best Ian

  • Score!!!! You've got a BA rig! I love it! Wish I knew more... oh well. Learning is a life long endeavor! Thanks!

  • @stayingawake20 Thanks Swede. Not as good as your score.

  • Excellent job Kevin---- Nice show----

  • Hi Kevin

is it possible to just run this off grid for days

what im thinking is solar is daylight, so using a photo cell could this be rigged to automatically turn to off grid at night and grid tie day time

    Please reply Ian

  • @Viking9280 Hey Ian. I can run off grid indefinately but the trick is to save your battery life by not using them. Thats why its nice to use your solar and have battery backup.

  • Wow, very nice inverter and it's a grid tie as well very nice indeed. Sounds expensive though.

How do you like your Xantrex PWM charge controller and do you ever wish you had the MPPT version? I was thinking that MPPT is excellent for solar panels but PWM is probably sufficient for wind turbines. Thoughts anyone?

  • Kevin, Great job explaning the outback inverter. I want one ! I will have to save up a lot of coke bottles to get it. Thanks for posting, Carey

  • Where is the battery output on this thing? Does this power a battery charger via an AC powered charger?

    Battery tip:

Get a forklift or "traction battery" pallet truck batteries are great, they are made to be run down, but any battery will last longer if only drawn down to 80% of capacity.

Of course moving a forklift battery would take a forklift to move one... unless of course you left the battery IN the forklift... Hmmm

  • Great setup. I'd like to see a vid about your generator if possible.

  • Great video, sir! Great information!

  • thats cool I looked at those they are a pretty penny but well worth it for a good system great video.

  • Nice, glad to see you got the remote hooked up and programed.

    Old question

Were you ever able to recover those old gel cell batteries you had ?

My sub box on here hasn't been updating right, so sorry if you already mentioned it.

  • @sirmasterpimp NO they are door stops.

  • What do you think of multiple smaller wattage inverters over 1 big one in case of burn out or other problems. Also, I ran across a deal where I can buy two 1000watt inverters cheaper than one 2000watt inverter. I like the idea of having around eight 1000 watt models and running 4000 watts max with some back left over. I am thinking of 220 as well. Nice rig and setup.....

  • @aaadream I like having more than one inverter. Little inverters will have a hard time starting refridgeration.

  • @OBXSOLWIND Can you wire 2-3 together for that?Thanks!

  • Kevin, What's your take on the Coleman charge controllers? Gonna do some solar soon and leaning in that direction. Can't afford the high $ stuff right now. Would Love your honest opinion. Thanx man.-Nate

  • @N8Dogg1002 To be honest I dont know. I would not be to picky on C controllers. I think they all do what they are ment to do.

  • Great video Kevin - Can you just clear up you said it had a 50amp charge controller in it, but then went on to say you need a external charge controller?

  • Oh Sorry re: watched it, and IF you're running off grid you'll need one becauase it wont shut down with no grid feed. (seems silly from a smart system) but I understand the point of running the external charge controler now.

  • @makemineatriple2006 I believe he said it has a 50amp charger to charge the bateries. It is only a charge controller when tied to the grid. That is my understanding hope this is correct.

  • Kevin do you have your wind turbine hooked to that also?

  • @depravedpuma I dont. The tubine is 12V

  • @OBXSOLWIND I am building a turbine so is that your turbine's max output no matter how high the wind is or is it a matter of wiring and diodes and rectifiers?

  • Thanks Kevin. Keep the vids coming.

  • Love the pure swine wave for running sensitive equipment! Awesome inverter! Keep the videos coming Kevin. Take care.

  • Great Video OBXSOLWIND

Please explain about the reason to use the External Charge controller.

Is it powered by the Panels directly or from the GTFX ?

    Vietvet2008

  • @VietVet2008 The charge controllers must be used for a number of reasons. If you are running off grid the aray can destroy the battery bank if you had no regulation. If the inverter were to screw up,a fuse, bad connection or lets say lightening the solar could push hard enough to boil over the bank or even worse FIRE. I hope that answered your question. CHEERS

  • i really like your setup... its really neat... :) so you could run that enterily off the grid? :)

  • @37474748 I can run off grid but it is limited to lights and refridgeration and thats all I realy need.

  • @OBXSOLWIND sounds pretty nice... can you bump some music and stuff during day time if you wanted from those batterys?

  • First View! First Comment! LOL!

But seriously, your vids are awesome as always. Very informative.

  • @MrFlGarden Thank you I try.
