I am so captivated by everything contrabass.

personally, i would like to know the dimensions of this, because all i could think of, was that when i started playing bass clarinet in middle school, it was nearly as big as i was. Now part way through college i've got another 2 - 2.5" on it. Though, i have decided that a contrabass sax case would make a lot better place to nap that timpani case #2 - which is where i usually slept during studys in high school hahaha

The couch is leather. Plastic or wooden couches make the tone brighter. Fabric covering deadens the sound. Leather is the only way to go.

Although this is a contrabass saxophone, it does use a bass saxophone mouthpiece. For this video I used a Zinner 54S bass saxophone mouthpiece, facing number 6A. The reed is a Legere bass sax reed, size 2 1/4.

Oh, sure, please forgive me the mistake. It's because Bennedikt Eppelsheim's instruments really does look like each other. But there's no doubt the contrabass sax has en excellent sound. My instrumento is a bass saxophone, made in Brazil, by Lopes Instrumentos, trade mark Galassine. It's a good sax but theirs mouthpiece and reed are not very good. Thanks for the info.

Yes, these horns are particularly effective in a large ensemble. The solos illustrate the capabilities of the instrument, so they are sometimes interesting in themselves.

I'm probably going to get some flak for this, but there seems to be a point when making instruments so low or high seems to be a bit impractical (e.g. Soprillo, Contrabass). I love saxes but I have a hard time getting past the ridiculous sounds of these things and focusing on the music. God help me if I'm at a concert with one of these, because I'll just laugh at them.

Dont get me wrong, I think it's a wonderful instrument, but it really seems more of a novelty to me, it is really hard for me to find something truly musical with a sax this low. If I ever had enough money to buy this, all It would really be good for is showing off and messing around. On the other hand, I think the conrabass clarinet has something about its brightness that keeps it interesting. Again, great instrument nontheless, this is coming from an exclusive sax player.

This is an unusual application for contrabass sax. In large ensembles, it adds some "edge" to the lowest brass instruments.

Just as baritone sax helps the bass trombone sound, contrabass sax helps the tuba sound.

But the upper register sounds good too.
