Cool! I never got past the fig. 8, let alone the invisible levels! I was shopping around for one a few yrs. back and I found a web site that sells re-furb. machines.. $1500 w/ a 5yr. service contract!
hi 5r93. Just watched the vid, bought me right back to my teens.
I would like to know please what pc platform you have used and which emulation software ?
I am keen to bring back the memories to a white board in my house.
Also, where did you get your 'spinner' from if you did use one ? Believe me, anybody who can get to the levels you have and NOT used a spinner is way further out there then me on this game !
Wow, what a flashback. Was re-listening to Wil Wheaton's '07 PAX keynote, and when he mentioned Tempest, I had a sudden, "Wait, I think I *remember* that one!" and came over here to search. Now that I'm watching, I can't even quite remember how it worked!
Thats awesome. I just played this for the first time in years at the Santa Cruz Beachboard walk yesterday. Lots of memories as a kid spending all my money on Tempest and other classic video games. Thx for posting.
a bonus of 624,000??? christ - they should have programmed it to automatically win the game, put you in the hall of fame, and then thank you for your quarter
Yes this does look and (just as important) sound like the original! Great playing by the way; my eyes may be too slow these days to play this old console I recently found. I haven't learned when it's okay to step across the open "lanes" on red levels and above, though I had limited practice-- I didn't live near one when I was young... the nearest tempest game was a trip to the next town in '81.
The highest level that you can start on is the green circle.
After completing all of the green levels, you remain on the green level, and get random screens (or so I've heard, as I never got past the green heart).
all levels are random green after the 96th level. Even if you get killed you will start on a potentially different green level. I should know, because I have the highest published score on this game - although that was 20 years ago.
Can you tutor me on how to do well on the standup arcade game I found in my town? These have technical difficulties after awhile and I'd like to get good before it needs another 20 years to repair. I never get far after the first red level and some days I am just too slow or distracted by some dork next to me to even get that far. This game has nostalgic powers over me like may of you out there. Just seeing the console again made me smile. I knew it was unique and friends just didn't get it.
This game was freaking kick ass back in the day!

Really cool. I was just talking about this game with a friend. Looks and sounds just like the original. What about the game called: Qix?

If you're not on green on your first quarter, you're a girlie man.

Wow! I was just watching the video for "Subdivisions" by Rush and the kid is playing Tempest.
That sure brought back some memories.
I loved this game. Not even close to your score, I miss it.
I think the people at the pinball/video place miss me too.

2nd best arcade game ever made after Defender.
I play it on MAME these days but it looks shite on an LCD monitor. Dig out my old Dell CRT and it looks superb.
