Its a bit humorous because marine artillerymen fire up to and beyond 30 miles away. For the most part, they never hear the rounds detinate or for that matter see them. I was taught at the beautiful and wonderfully weathered lawton-ft sill that the only rounds we'd get to see would be there durning school. That proved to be true. Siemper Fi-Kill em'all.

The powder charge. Depending on how far the target is, they have different types to make the shell go father or shorter. The 155's can put rounds within a 100 meter perimeter from 20 miles away. There are 6 guns to a battery. When Fire for effect is called all six guns fire. Lets say the FO calls for 3 rounds fire for effect. That is 18 rounds being fired within about 30 seconds. I used to be in fire direction control-0844.

redbag which is a very strong charge and I believe is a stick charge which means it cannot be cut, like charge 7 redbag but my memory is not the greatest.
