They're called gobo's (or sometimes referred to as a "go between"). They're used in live rooms to sort of dampen the reverb in the room but allow it to sound more live than a (typical) vocal booth. They are made of mineral wool and burlap...some are made of different material that absorb different frequencies. Depends what you're using them for.
