  • I've tried heavens above for predicted flares, but have not seen any in 7 or 8 attempts. Maybe my watch is off....

    Nice catch.

  • @MrEdmBob

Thanks :) Funny you say that as I've not had much success for some time now either and am wondering if I've got multiple watches off!

  • Nice one :)

  • People have seen multiple things at once similar to this, but changing directions. And they were not forecast before those those times. So don't get too happy calling everything an iridium flare like this one.

  • Twice I have seen bright flare like lights that were bright then faded out. I don't know if it was the angle or what but they seemed stationary. Any ideas? Maybe just the way I glanced up?

  • Depending on the angle and time of day etc, they can be very fast, a mere second easy. I'd say that's what you saw :)

  • @Sirchud68 A stationary satellite? Many have seen the same. You know it was one of these iridium flares.

  • I saw similar to this but it was quick, like a second - flash and it was gone, no more...was it Iridium Flare? Or super nova? Super nova would be slower right? But I don't see any news about super nova, so it might be something different. Iridium Flares seem to last up to 5 seconds???

  • It was most likely an iridium flare. They can actually be seen for more than 5 seconds depending on the time of day etc.

  • hey i know a web-side it's called heavens above... my question is is it accurate...

    Gr8 video btw :P

  • Very accurate, I await a -8 to -9 mag tonight, but currently cloudy. click on the map so your coordinates are great, then check back often and hope for clear skies.

  • the predictions are really accurate.. have tested it myself!

  • the predictions are really accurate!

  • Love these. I used to watch them all the time at night, where they seem to last for 10 to 20 seconds it seems, but just this morning i watched a -7 flare that lasted for maybe 1 second before it was gone.

  • That's cool, I enjoy looking for them :)

  • there is going to be a mag -7 near where i live on 1st March

  • Thanks! I was distracted when I first started filming. It was at -8 mag I believe and certainly one of the brightest I've seen.

  • Good! You should not underestimate height! Even 45 deg is pretty high up! Great video anyway!!! And what was the magnitude of this thing

  • I'm always been 'tricked' by my own poor sense of perception when it comes to angles and heights!

  • love these! gotta make a video of the pics i have of these and my other space pics and make a video!

  • glad you like it, they're cool to watch. feel free to use it if you want :)

  • that's just awesome. :)

  • Awesome, great catch by the way. Nearly sneaked by you
