hey brian, on the 5.9L dodge ram motor, my heat shield is shaky when its running? is that a big deal? or should i replace it? this is totally random but i was just wondering.
Good video. I like your idea of leavin the one bolt in the pump to let the coolant drain after you pop it out. Wish i woulda done that when I did this on mine back in july.
@Turbodieselracer It really depends on the particular year and even production date. Most of them are made in Mexico and I've seen more than a few that are genuine lemons. I've owned and driven at least one (consecutively) now for about 12 years. NOBODY makes a better battery, a better seat, door handle design, or better geometry for the price. They also generally have good power. They are designed by 1. Appearance 2. Performance 3. Squish in anything else needed like a battery, AC, etc.
I have a 2002 Dodge Durango and I need to change the water pump. the systems looks similar to Dakota. the engine on the Durango is a 5.9 LTR. should i follow the same process also do you have a video where you did it completely so that i can follow your steps?
@Syle1170581 If you can pump it up to 15psi with a cool fullent tank you can know for sure. You can meck it with a chirror and flash light. Good luck.
@mazzmari Ask anyone who's done a water pump job to completion and then had it leak because of a lack of surface preparation if it's important. It's just one of those five minute things that saves you three hours. It's worth doing for sure. I use a razor blade then a high speed buzz biscuit, and then brake parts cleaner. I'm kind of anal about doing work I can be proud of. And I hate getting calls the next day saying there's a problem. Hope that answers it for you. Best of luck!
These automotive videos you do are great. They would be even better if you would say some words about how you came to a diagnosis (before replacing parts).
That new beard-do makes you look a hell of a lot like Christian Bale in "The Machinist" :-)
Veeery nice video by the way

@PAMAROSHOUSE It depends. Are they stubborn, brave, and persistent? Or are they full of fear, doubt, and hesitation?

@Turbodieselracer I've been meaning to compile some videos on different brands and what I think of them. Maybe that's one I'll do first.

I've noticed the water pumps that have the fan mounted to them dont last long, I think the unbalanced fan puts strain on the bearing

I'd love to see the diagnosis process. Is it necessary to clean the mating surface of the water pump? What do you normally use to clean it?
