I heard this played in the sorted dance tent at Limetree festival last weekend sounded incredible...what a classic but somehow id forgot about it...cheers for posting
My favourite track back in the day...met Rose Windross in a club called Harlequins in Kentish Town years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Told me an my mate she made a choon with Soul II Soul...didn;t believe her till i heard it next day on a pirate radio station...
I used to be on the green line all the way to the orange and red lines with this joint in the walkman many a day back in Washinton D.C., I promise you!!!
The Europeans have a distinct way of moving, when they dance to this kind of music, I noticed that German women, who were into Soull and R&B music moved the same way. It looks as if they are a bit off beat, but it's still nice and they are still jammin'!
Big up the ol school dance heads...Fair to say Fairplay is an Alltime classic...big up to all the Jazzy players...plus Norris "the Boss" Windross ..(Rose's brother)...and all the Funki Dreds of yesteryear!?!...any one know who the backing singers were?... they should've had hits on looks alone!!!?!
oh what was the name of that tv show on bbc 2 with normski doing the chitty chat, i'm thinkin no limits, but that cameb4 it didnt it, that had i think jeeny powel and some spotty blond teenage boy doing the links, did normski take over the show or did it have another name.
Ahh man, This tune gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Even 20 years after I first heard it. Amazing tune. I thanked Rose Windross personally for writing the tune of my youth.
that's when dj smash hunter, jazzy nice, and chillfreez cut up their tunes jazzy grooves @ giant step nyc. dubfire of deep dish used to play this jam @ exodus(dc) before it becomes exodus quartet aka thievery corporation.
despite getting stabbed whilst it was playin in the african centre, its still my favourite song other than masterplan (diane brown and barrie k sharp)
This is, without a doubt, my all-time favourite Soul II Soul tune. No one could have owned "Fairplay" the way Rose Windross owned it. A flawless classic!
The definition of UK Street Soul, as always us Brits have put our own unique spin on things, took the glam & shine off US 80's Soul & run it thru Jah Shaka's sound system & added some funky beats & what you get is the template for many early nineties pirate uk soul
i was always gutted seeing people i know on this video, i never did get the chance to go to the africa centre where they filmed this, instead i had to work in a chicken shop on a sunday as a student.
OMG ...the anthem to my late teens!!!! I may well have been in the audience somewhere....I got just about everywhere else, inc. Soul II Souls shop in Camden! Soul II Soul, Madhatters....etc.....sound systems extraordinaire!
the only thing that can save US R&B will have to come from the UK!! Thank you Soul II Soul Loose Ends,Incognito and others for the memories, great beats and lyrics that MEAN something!
I still remeber these days like they were yesterday..What a great part of my life, so many friends from the past can be seen both alive and dead r.i.p Doreen. Feel sad that you can only see my back for a flash!! Bit like that on Back to Life video aswell. Was shy and didnt realise I was part of History...
this group never one a brit award a group that change the face of british music ! and that dick head robbie williams won shit loads brits what"s he done for british music ?the pill poppin cunt
i was at the fridge in 88-89 when soul 2 soul played there often. one night, i think it might have been a friday, my neighbour got shot and it put a bit of a dampener on the night
First heard Soul II soul age 18 in 1990- all these years later still playing their songs like they just came out now age 36. What an amazing group... made me want to move from New York City to London
@ Enigma Soul II Soul's first album did 2 mil and earned them 2 Grammy's here. Dahell r u tawkin about?? lol...
Man this takes me back to a good time in music. I love what Soul II Soul were all about, good vibes and good music. Yeah, Caron had some pipes, but Ross flipped it on this joint. What was the other lady's name that used to sing with them, the one that got killed?
never seen this video...this is a blast from the past!!! it gives me a taste of such a sweet time in life, when music came from the heart and not the pocket. Soul II Soul didn't hit too hard here in the US because of the dollar due to them being ahead of their time here. thanks for the post!!!
recenlty found this CD hidden away, now the weather is getting warm, it is nice to blasted this out in the car, especially this track and "keep on moving", wicked.
It's amazing how Jazzie B would keep blessing us with great female vocalist. Yes, rose also had the chops. She took this song and squeezed every ounce of emotion she had. Soul 2 Soul was like a university someone would graduate and a new member would take the mike. I would love to see a Soul 2 Soul reunion. for the record Rose Windross made her mark as a member of Soul 2 Soul.
I went to a gig at the Barbican in London recently and Jazzie B (from Soul II Soul) played a DJ set afterwards. Rose Windross turned up, took off her coat and put down her handbage, picked up a mike and sang live to this. She still looked and sounded just as wicked 19 years on from this video. It was a brilliant night - and I got to give Jazzie B a kiss!
Respect to Carron Wheeler, who can argue with such tremendous commercial success, but Rose Windross was really a great talent, this single ranks up there with the best. Where is Rose Windross now?
Another classic.....
