Thank you for a brilliant rendering of one of Stan's most powerful songs (among many). You have the voice, the guitar work and above all the heart to make this a wonderful song. I'm guessing that you're playing in Open D? With your inspiratiion, I'll figure it out.
This makes me cry! I bought Stan Rogers's cd since I used to listen to it all the time in an Ontario family where I used to live in 1988 and it just transports me back in that time. I am so moved by your sensitivity, just like I am when I listen to Stan Rogers. It is such a shame he is gone! Thanks my friend for sharing this.
Your cover is beautiful....you really do sound similiar to Stan but have your own sound. Sounding similiar to Stan is a big compliment because very few can sound as good as him.
This is a great song, and you were absolutely amazing. I will be spending my first Christmas alone this year at Basic Training for the Air Force. Too bad I won't be able to listen to it on Christmas day. :(
What can I add? Everyone else's comments are right on. You sing and play beautifully.
I play a version of Stan's "Delivery Delayed," that made my mother cry. Every time I see her, she wants me to play it for her. I never tire of doing so.
Bravo, c'est superbe. Tu chantes super bien et le couple guitare-chant fonctionne très bien. La musique est douce comme je l'aime. MERCI MERCI BEAUCOUP.
Great job! It's one of my favorite Stan Rogers songs. This year will probably be the first Christmas I don't spend with my family, so it's a little more touching now....Thank you.
Really great song and your performance is brilliant. Love the quality of your voice and the emotional colours you put into this song. Great way to start the day and now off to work!. I'm away this Christmas so guaranteed I would love to learn this song. Thanks for posting, thats one of the best songs I've heard for a long time. 5*s and Fav'ed. Cheers. Iching
As a newcomer to YouTube, I'm so delighted to see performances of old favorites. Stan's version of this song has been on my "Weird Christmas Songs" playlist for many years.
Yeah, not the usually up-beat, cheerful lyrics that generally come with Christmas songs... but a beautiful look into the lives of some people.... thanks for the comments
Thanks so much for this you have a great voice for this and your playing is beautiful- love Stan's work - and know this from a "Black Family" album released in ireland a number of years ago. Is the tuning open G?
I love this song and always have. Even when I spend Christmas' alone, and away from home. I actually found this song years ago, just before my first Christmas away, when a dear friend and her family took me in for Christmas dinner. Christmas alone is not so bad, whn friends are around. Well done You.
This song is so depressing, that it just doesn't seem like it should be a Christmas song. I understand that it is a sad story and I am sorry for these people. However in addition to the sadness it is as if it has no meter. It's everywhere. I just didn't like it.
I have to say this...this is my first christmas, divorced and alone. my 9 year old son will be opening his gifts without me. This song makes me sob. I still can hardly type. I am alone, in a new city, without anyone. But I have to thank you for this post. I am a professional sailor and I can relate to Stan Rogers on many levels...I miss my family!!! I miss my home!!! but thanks for singing this...
We won't be back this year bud. Pass along warmest wishes to the missus and all the family. Close my eyes and see us jamming in your kitchen back in the old days. Cheers bro'
Simply beautiful. I felt every word and you have a lovely voice.
