  • Listen to real Paul Burlsons guitar work, theres a clip of him attempting Hound Dog with The Johnny Burnette Trio on youtube, ohh dear, but make your own judgment, the proof of the pudding is as they say in the eating. ALL the great JB Trio work was done as correctly stated by Grady Martin. You can also hear Gradys work on many early Rockabilly tracks, including Buddy Hollys Rock Around With Olivie.

  • fantastic! that you for sharing !!!!

  • Grady Martin is a Legend in classic Nashville country recording..You are very smooth-Im still learning...Thanx DALE

  • Loved this lesson. Really nice man, thanks a lot

  • @overandout58 its all good man. All I could afford was a Ibanez artcore AF75 :(

  • That shirt is bichin rock n roll....

  • I just want to say thank you. I'm plain rock guitarist who's learning rockabilly for my new band. In 2 hours of following your videos, I already sound like I almost know what I'm doing. Almost. Thank you very much, bro.

  • I been taking your lesson for a couple months now and you are by far the best rockabilly teacher don't change anything mike haduck

  • @TheMrBanjocat Thank You Mike...

  • @Damianblf i totally agree with mike, i've been playing rockabilly and psychobilly for a while and these give a real good insight in to rockabilly guitar

  • Maybe study some Carl Perkins,,, nice guitar ....

  • Hey Damian, I'm thinking of purchasing your dvds. One question: Are pdf's included?

  • damn dude your guiatr is beautiful with a sound to match it

  • You're the man Damian! Thanks for this it's a great learning experience

  • i'm inheriting a 1962 gretsch nashville off my father when he kicks the bucket! :)

  • Thankyou! your instructions are awesome. I have been trying for some time to find some Rockabilly progressions and now thanks to you I have!! I am ecstatic!! As for those who request tabs, these are easy to transpose if you just stop the progress and write them down. Which is what I am doing. Thanks again.

  • Love that Gretsch. Keep Rocking.

  • WOW... great... that is a guitar

  • @jafigueroa41 yes, that IS a guitar......

  • this guitar is too expensive!

  • is their a tab out their for this somewhere and where can i find it

  • Nice take on the Grady Martin style.

Don't be bothered by those who still think it was Paul Burlison on those records-they've just been getting the wrong information.

  • ROCK'nTASTIC! =0]

  • a gretsch, no? traded mine for a motorcycle back in 1967. wish i still had it.

btw, thankee for the riffs <not slingblade am i.

  • give me some tabs man, would really appricate it! really wanna learn this thing, and make my daddy proud!

  • great stuff bro, I used to play a Brian Setzer Gretch and now play a Gibson Country Gentleman.

  • Great rhythm dude and I love your Setzer guitar. keep rockin

  • Yes I think that Grady Martin played with Brenda Lee a little bit. Kinda like saying Babe Ruth played a little hardball some time ago.

    Great Lesson

    Big Ron

  • I remember playing this guitar stuff back in the 50's in ever honkie tonk in southen Ohio.Man what a great era that was for new picker's.Don't forget Grady Martin playing on Marty Robbins El paso. What a player. He was with Willie Nelson for years

  • very inspiring that you treat the music you love with such respect, and remind people to actually buy music!

thx, keep up the great playing

  • This was the first of Damian's videos that I viewed, and it knocked me over. I knew right then that this was the style I wanted to learn. The backing tracks are included in Damian's "Hot Rod Rockabilly Guitar" DVD set, available on Ebay and definitely worth the investment.

  • Great playing! It's so cool that I get to know some rockabilly stuff by watching your videos. I've only known Brian Setzer until now =)

Where do you get those BAcking Tracks?

  • the burnettes were friends of mine and you sure do have johnnys way of playing down.

  • Absolutely love the guitar, it's really gorgeous...Would probably be my dream piece to have...

  • Anyone who's interested should check out the Grady Martin compilation "Roughneck Blues" on the Rev-Ola label. Great stuff including of course Johnny Burnette and also Johnny Horton, Brenda Lee, Buddy Holly, Little Jimmy Dickens, Red Foley and others. Great playing, lots of this type of stuff. The "Rockin' Rollin' Johnny Horton" CD on Bear Family is great too and has Grady Martin on every track.

  • Very nice! Love this music and glad to see there are others who not only like it but are trying to ensure it survives and thrives.

  • That was a great lesson, I love the way you play!

  • When you are playing double stops on the 2nd and 3rd strings, like at 2:00, are you just strumming across those two strings without hitting adjacent ones or are you hitting those other strings and muting them? I can finger pick just fine but selectively strumming certain strings to a shuffle is killing me.

  • niuce guitar work and that CD is my number one favourite albumk off all time. The Burnette Trio played the best rockabilly on the planet.

  • nice! long live Paul Burlison

  • nunca farei isso *-*

  • You are playing a Paul Burlison solo. Grady Martin played on alot of the ballads Paul Burlison is the guy with the "Tele" sound. Paul Burlison also played guitar on the Peggy Lee stuff.

  • 978stevie I am sorry but you are wrong, these are Grady Martin licks...

  • @Damianblf A lot of people don’t realise that Grady played on the Trio’s records and many other things coming out of Nashville in the 50’s. Grady had a lovely cool but quite dirty tone, you recreate it very well sir; my favourite records he played on were by Johnny Horton....he really should be far more recognised.

  • @clean3 I know alot of peole think alot of the trio's recordings were all done by Paul Burlison!

  • @clean3 I know alot of people think all the recordings were done by Paul Burlison!

  • @978stevie - Grady Martin played with Marty Robbins for a while, notably on "El Paso". Keep on rocking in the free world!

  • I totally dig this kind of music. Great job, though I do agree with another comenter that a maybe slowdown the explanation a little. Theres some cool stuff going on her that Id like to get down.

  • Sounds like baby blue eyes....

  • yep its true i grew up thinking my guitar hero was paul burlison only to find out about six months ago it was infact it was grady martin

  • You´re doing great!

  • The only hard part is on the 9th fret.if you are more advanced you can hear what i am doing!!! Now nice n slow!!! where was that? and now fast! he then finishes with you might have a little trouble with it........That says he has no confidence over his teaching abilities and knows he has taught us nothing, all he has done is showed off his ability!!!!

  • @doneadump

Actually, I think he misspoke here, it is the 8th fret to 7th, to 5th.

  • Slow down man! Telle every note!

  • Cool man, love Johnny Burnrett-my favorite rockabilly band.

  • sounds like Baby Blue Eyes by the Stray Cats.

  • *lol*

  • No sh*t? ;-) It's a Burnette cover.

  • By Johnny Burnette Cats covered it

  • grady is the man. I got into him when I learden the solo to El Paso

  • Ditto. This guy is fun to listen to.

  • Awesome! I've picked up a bunch of licks from your vids that I can incorporate into my playing. : )

  • Is there any particular tabs for this play would really appricate it ... thanks :)

  • His Guitar, A Gretsch ( of course) Setzer Edition.. looks like the Orange 6120. Laquer I think. Forgot to mentuion that. Sounds like he's using mostly a good tube amp and just some really good reverb, maybe a delay. Not too much in the way of compression or overdrive.

  • my rig, fender twin, clean channel, Boss DD-20 Giga delay, ( any will do to get started) , A seymour duncan twin tube overdrive, and a Barber Tone compressor. But, to get a good tone and a great start.. just a good amp.( try to stay away from Solid state if you can afford it..) and a delay will get you going! If you cant afford a delay look for a good used amp, witha good reverb. AND the amp doesnt need to be like mine.. ( 100Watts) great sound is still acheived with 20 watt, 30 watt tube amps..

  • Alot of questions about the amps.. I cant speak for him, ( he does mention his equiptment in the last two posts) But... a good quality tube amp is preferred..not the law but you'll notice.. the guys who have been doing this along time will prefer them.. gives you tone.. a delay... reverb will do if you cant afford a delay..thats all you need to get started.clean sound, alitle "slap" delay going and your on the first step..some do like to also use a compressor or a good quality overdrive.

  • for all you guys who want to know what kinda amp to use....you kinda gotta figure that one out yourself. all though, any amp with reverb or delay effects work. or you can go out to your local music store and by a Boss DD-3 Digital Delay Pedal or a cheap Danelectro Delay Pedal

  • how do u set up yur amp for rockabilly playing

  • You shouldn't expect that from him - I tried several months ago. Guess you will have to ask someone else.

  • Hi Damian,

Great videos, although i'm a Brit, i love Rockabilly, Scotty Moore, Johnny Burnette, your style, just like the original stuff, let us know what guitar & Amp you are using to create that sound. see ya, keep the vids coming. desperadoxl

  • ha, I've got that CD! It does rock!!

  • Dude...you've got a great sence of humor and a great teaching technique....I'd love to see you play out some time.

PS. tell us 'bout your amp & fx settings!!!!

  • You shouldn't expect that from him - I tried several months ago. Guess you will have to ask someone else.

  • man, you look like Brian Setzer in A Cloaking Suit :D

    see yaaa

    and thanks for this vid

  • Thank you for NOT saying that Paul Burlison played Gradys parts !!!!!! Good job.

  • +1 on that.

  • super!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great stuff and thanks for the lessons ..how a bout just Rockin out for us on that great G Guitar?

  • Hey rockabilly dude!!! Thanks for all that cool stuff. I just want to know... What kind of amp and gear you use to get that fab tone.

    Keep rocking, man !

  • Hey Damian, I've looked through almost all these Rockabilly lessons, have to say, great job.

Just wondering though. I haven't seen much on the gear you're using. What I'm mainly interested in is the gauge strings you use. However, I'm sure other people are interested in the other stuff as well.

  • I love this style of guitar playing. I'm currently transforming myself from an 80's era shredder into a style with a little more heart and soul, Rockabilly/Blues etc... thanx for the upload.

  • WHOA, it's Buddy Holly in baggy jeans.

  • I have gone through all five lessons, very nice! Lessons are very clear and

enough information is included to work everything out. Thank you for the time and effort.

    Greetings from Canada.

  • man, you are on fire bro! love the lessons online - great series. youve got great technique and one hell of a sound from that gretsch. good job! keep them coming most def!

  • Keep the lessons coming - love your take on these solos!

  • Well, your kind of a dork, but you sure can play that guitar my friend..Thanks a million!!

  • Great, thanx for the lesson, rockabilly licks are so hard to find!

  • this is boss, was a great help, thanks.

  • Superb series of lessons, keep them coming!

  • Nice job men. Hope you make some more !
