The Canes won their first 4 NCs as an independent making a living on a weak schedule beating poor FSU (usually FSU beat themselves) and a declining, over-rated Notre Dame. That was back in the day pre-BCS when the NC was a joke popularity contest. After UM joined the Big East they only won one NC (a decent team). They have won nothing since joining the ACC. Playing in a conference, much less winning it, is harder because the stakes are higher for every game. UM football history= over-rated.

As a rule of thumb, all the original universities that take on the name of their state are the real teams of that state. The reason why universities have the name of the state and the "state" after is to recognize that there is another team that could make up the rivalry. For example, Oregon and Oregon State, the first university recognized is Oregon. Really all the actual teams should choose to beat their "state counterparts to represent. Enough said.

The Canes won their first 4 NCs as an independent making a living on a weak schedule beating poor FSU (usually FSU beat themselves) and a declining, over-rated Notre Dame. That was back in the day pre-BCS when the NC was a joke popularity contest. After UM joined the Big East they only won one NC (a decent team). They have won nothing since joining the ACC. Playing in a conference, much less winning it, is harder because the stakes are higher for every game. UM football history= over-rated.

As a rule of thumb, all the original universities that take on the name of their state are the real teams of that state. The reason why universities have the name of the state and the "state" after is to recognize that there is another team that could make up the rivalry. For example, Oregon and Oregon State, the first university recognized is Oregon. Really all the actual teams should choose to beat their "state counterparts to represent. Enough said.

No Miami's SOS is year in and year out harder than The Gators. I think my favorite line in the Miami documentary on ESPN was "As much as we hated the seminoles we respected them, because at least they kept playing us... unlike the gators".
