... Just took him out, and he was crying, I watched it live on tv. That guy made so many stupid moves in his time in indycar it was amazing. Remember EJ viso at Toronto that year, I mean, I could go on all day and why Mario Moreas is an idiot. Guess my first post didn't all fit, so I finished up ;)
I'm glad that idiot Moreas is gone. First lap of the 500, everybody knows they they are starting 3 wide, Moreas should have known a car was there, Marco couldn't give any new space. And guys you can't always just jump out of it at the start of Indy and get single file. Everybody is 3 wide for rows and rows, single file by the first turn just won't happen. Marco started up there, Moreas started in the inside, 100% Marios bad. Then he went and cried about it after wards and said how Marco ju
oh come on guys even if it's the first lap you may overtake on the outside. it definitely was not a stupid move of marco and if mario doesn't give him enough room then it's mario's fault. I mean they were racing side by side so it's clear, isn't it?
with that in mind, Marco and Morales should know that going into the first turn that going side by side with this configuration of cars and the narrow turn one that its smarter just to lift and let the other driver by and go after them later in the race, considering there is still 500 miles remaining. That pass on lap one wasn't crucial for each driver's overall result in the race.
it sucks what happens, both sides could point fingers, but what the problem is that its been more and more difficult for 2 cars to stay side by side at indy in the corners for quite a few years now One car ends up washing up high into the other car look at most of the accidents that have hapened during the 500s between like 06-10 and youll see a common trend they need to get rid of that grass and put the apron back, and these cars cant be so aero sensitive in the turns when side by side also,
Mario should of watched his mirrors and gave Marco room. Also his spotter should of told him. The Andretti luck continues. It shows how Mario is stupid sometimes, look at Sao Paolo. The most stupidest thing i've ever seen.
Last time I checked, when the green flag flies, you're allowed to race anywhere on the track. Marco had the high line which he frequently takes. Is he suppose to ask permission to pass someone? Moraes clearly moved up into him.

ok....i was at this race..mario could not do anything about it he had no room to move down the lane because marco was out of HIS position.. Marco can suck on it..by the way marios dad died 2 days ago.
Moraes is a billionaires grandson and drives just like one. If he didn't have that financial support I doubt anyone would let him touch their car. He's obviously 100% at fault here. Marco was similarly an idiot here for going outside on the first turn around such a reckless driver as Moraes.
Come on, Moraes wrecks up half of his races. Just a couple weeks ago in Toronto he gets involved in 3 accidents and puts Viso into the wall on the slowdown lap.
Ha ha, that is funny. I actually agree with you on that. He should wait a couple of years when all of the rookies become pros. (Note: that might be 10 more years)
As Bobby Unser said..."its a spec series" race circuit. There is on wiggle room for innovation within the teams. Everyone has to race cookie cutter race cars that are all the same. Hell I remember back in the day when a roadsters ran with rear engine cars in the same race! That was a blast. They need to ease off on the spec rules for each car and let the teams compete.
Secondly, Marco was taking an unnecessary risk there, so its not like it was 100% Moraes' fault, had Marco not made such a brash move, the accident never would have occurred. I agree that Moraes should have been more aware, but Marco is by no means an innocent little angel.
You can't win a race in the first turn of the first lap but you sure as hell can lose one.
It is Morae's fault, what i do question is wether or not a true champion would have used the words marco used when talking about Moraes... Himself has done much worse than this, to name one, A1GP at malasya... Someone who made a mistake like that should think twice before saying something this harsh to a fellow driver whos a rookie.
I don't want to sound like a total douche and I am a huge Marco fan, honestly, but didn't Marco do something similar to a Ganassi car in 2007 when he flipped on the backstretch? I thought he just kinda squeezed the other car into the wall. I hope I'm wrong

I think that Marco was just running a line that an experienced driver would feel confortable using. I have been to every race since 1989 and sit between turn 1 and 2, drivers going two wide on the start in turn 1 is common place, I have seen 3 wide. Moraes had plenty of room below him to hold his line lower, his inexperience was showcased as he drifted up into Marco who held his high line perfectly. Definately Moraes fault.
I agree it was Moraes' fault. I do however question why Marco was there. Great drivers 'feel' things like that happening. He wasn't going make the pass, why sit pinned in?
Money has nothing to do with it. Some would say Marco has been fast tracked by his daddy, and Moraes hasn't. Just my opinion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yeah, alot of this has to do is how unstable these cars are, all race long these cars couldnt run side by side or close to each other, it was just like last year's indy 500 when Kanaan crashed out, these cars raced pretty much single file spaced out during green flag runs with the exception of restarts, something drastically needs to be done to these cars.
Believe me, I don't care for the Andretti's at all, but you've got to be a complete buffoon to blame him. He held his line on the outside the whole time. Morales has a mirror and a spotter. I guess he didn't use either.
Truthfully both are at fault there. Marco was a bit aggressive for lap one going on the HIGH line already. Morales is at fault for not giving enough room on the outside knowing a car is there. For the commentators to defend Marco and put the blame solely on Morales is wrong.
The commentators were Indy 500 competitors and veterans at one time also, I think they know what they are talking about. Moraes best finish was 18th last year in his rookie year, his career earnings are $303,415. Marcos best finish at Indy, 2nd in 2006 which was his rookie year, his career earnings are $1,699,921.
You'd have to be a complete fool to take an outside line in the first turn of the race. Moraes had the normal racing line and Andretti (the idiot) went for a kamikaze move! Andrettis need to learn you dont win a 500 mile race in the first lap!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You do know there are mirror's on the cars right? they even have spotters... Moraes is still learning obviously, kid needs to learn the basics of driving before racing in the IRL, so dont feed that crap that it was Marco's fault
"That was the first lap. Just the first corner he was outside. I don't know if he knew, but this is a 500-mile race. I don't know if there was any point in what he did. My spotter didn't tell me that he was looking outside. I was just driving my line and when I realized, I was in the wall."
Marco had several seconds to back the throttle off and get behind Moraes to avoid getting run up into...Watch the tape at 2:07 This is the view from Will Power's car.
Yeah, Marco might have lost a few positions, but he'd have saved the car. He showed no more "experience" here than Moraes did.
Just ask yourself...do you think Mears or Castroneves would have tried the outside line in this situation? Of course not! That's why those guys win this race, and the Andretti's don't.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
LOL It wasn't Andretti's fault, he was just on the outside of moraes trying to pass even if it was a stupid decision (yep it was) Moraes was the dumbass who didn't see the 26 car on the outside and he was the one lifting.
Yes, Andretti ought to have been more patient, but he was holding his line - he just got squeezed. It seems clear to me that the fault lies with the #5 team. Moraes was drifting up and should have let off, and the spotter should have warned him that Andretti was right there. They had plenty of room, and as the closer driver to that space, it's on Moraes to take advantage of it. I like Moraes, he's a fast driver, but it's going to be a couple more years of wrecks before he ever wins anything.
I agree with you - he is still learning. He is very good friends with Tony Kanann and I hope that he takes advice from him while TK is still in the series.
if you look at the rest of the field there were several spots that there was side by side racing, Moraes should have let off the gas a bit once he noticed he was drifting up the track. But by the interview he gave he didn't even notice that.
