  • I always hear for some reason that the Flyers played goon hockey in this game and these 70's Flyers had no talent. In the 75-76 season, the Flyers had a 60 goals scorer, 50 goal scorer, 2 30 goal scorers and 6 players with 20 or more....I have to stay, if they decided to skate, they could have skated the commies out of the building too....they just knew that the soviets DID NOT play physical...SOOO why not knock them off their game and onto their asses!

  • funny...the date was on my birthday and my father would always talked about this game ( the Flyers hard hitting the Russians and the coach pulling them off the ice )

  • When Shereo spoke @ 1:10, he already had the 'wink & the nod', from Clarence Campbell, who disliked the Flyers, but he Hated the Russians, in so giving them (Flyers) permission to do what ever was necessary, 2 stop the Russian Red Army, from going undefeated.

This game, was as close to seeing "Organized Crime" in action as you will ever see.

The NHL, Officials, & broadcasters should have been investigated & sent to Siberia for life!

In 72 We stayed & took it all?wtf? took what? fn Bullshit!!!

  • this is called "blue collar hockey" in a blue collar city. they dont call us the fighting city of philadelphia for nothing! why do you think the germans invaded russia and not philadelphia? :p lol

  • @ 3:33 you can see a Russian getting a high stick in the face, then charged by some fucking moron, (take your pick) @ 90 mph.

Of course, the Russians were the victims of such barbarism, in any game played against any N/A Team, & very few resulted in penalties, unless the N/A team was up a few goals.

"There're going home" he yells!! Hell yes, I would go home too, putting up with horse shit like that!

Russians were accused of human rights violations during the cold war, this was EXIBIT "A"!!

  • @hanksnow2 I don't know, there were a couple shots here and there that were iffy. I know how dirty that Philly team was, but I think the Russians walking off mostly had to do with the hitting. They probably weren't used to taking, mostly just dishing it out. Alot of those hits weren't dirty, they were jsudt big hits and that probably didn't sit well with this Russian team.

  • @ryankuntz19 - did I hear him say @ 1:41,"innocently Van Imp took the fifth of those,(penalties)"?? Innocent, are you FUCKING KIDDING ME????

Robinson hit "K" with a similar hit on New Years Eve, I think he was still reeling from that one. But hey, everyone had the OK to get him, anyway you could.

That fucking Van Imp & the whole fucking Flyers team, didn't deserve to be on the same ice.

& did you say the Russians were used to dishing it out?

You are obviously new at this, they hardly ever hit!

  • @hanksnow2 Holy guy, settle down.Did you play for the Red Army in '76? As far as dishing it out, yeah they didn't play blow people up like philly but they certainly played physical when necessary, grinding and bumping. And I'm guessing because they were so good, they dictated the physical pace in almost every game they played. So relax, all I said was that it didn't look like it got to the point where a team should walk of the ice.Maybe a few less coffees throughout the day might help...

  • @ryankuntz19 - I don't know if you were ever bullied, but, if you were, you may have some idea of what I'm talking about. WE only see a very small part of what took place. The whole game was "Do anything you wan't, to these Commie Fuckers"!

I don't think you lived the days of the "Cold War", but I did & I think it's still going on today.

These m/fuckers that control us, programmed us to HATE the Russians, but I resisted, because I knew my enemy was in Ottawa, who kept many A good people, POOR!

  • @ryankuntz19 -Patriotism is very easy to teach, especially when you have the children at a very early age. If you like, you could teach black was white.

Well they had me at an early age,but growing up I found that this country only cares for the RICH & "F" everyone else.

Canada spent very little on sports programs, & if you made it, it was you parents who paid the price, & those with no money suffered. Russia put more $ into sports than Can put on Defense.

It's a much bigger issue with me.

  • FLYERS R MY 3RD FAV

  • Americans can't play hockey!

  • As far as I could tell the Red Army just couldn't stack up to the physical play of the Philadelphia flyers. Gotta love old time hockey!

  • @GTA89420 -Just attended my 10 yr. old grandsons tournament in PEI. Met a gentleman who said he attended a party of NHL Hockey Players. Moose Dupant told this man,if we had been treated like that (1976), we would have left the ice also. He (Moose) said, just before the game had started, the Ref. poked his head in the dressing room & said; "Don't forget boys, I'm Canadian too"! In other words, "Do what you have to do, & I won't see a thing....unless they retalliate, then they get the gate..

  • What a bunch of candy arses.

  • This is the most beautiful game I ever watched. World World 2 U.S. General George Patton would be so proud of the Philadelphia Flyers here in this game against the dirty bastard scum Russians.

  • @BBQFanNo1Brilliantly. That’s why the most number of people in Europe guess that in NA are leaving the stupid idiots who know nothing about the live and about the war. Be crying: I have no wish to Vietnam, I have no wish to Iraq! You are second sort man, you are pampered moron. It’s not your deal to discuss Russians.

To discuss Russians you must spill a lot of your blood. Stupid idiot.

  • I Dd not see Canadians in boxing, mixfight, judo, sambo-wrestling struggle or other single combats, where many Russian guys who take there the first places.

Probably Canadians are too cowardly. Canadians obviously not have steel eggs, but in hockey they try to represent themselves like supermens.

Conclusion; the only thing where Canadians is strong it is dirty hockey where it is not necessary.

  • @AHRZAMANBALASY first, I am American. Second, I do not see quality Russian athletes in the past 20 years in soccer (futbol)-the most played sport in the world, Basketball, track/field, or cycling or swimming, easily the sports played most throughout the world.

Get your facts straight and then email me, I welcome open dialogue and will admit if I am proved wrong. Finally, in the Canada Cup Canada won 4/5 championships. You have presented no facts so far.

  • @M26MASH in first - you are american! - ooh yee, its reason why you have not understood my post

in second - i am mishar(100%golden hord tatar)

in third - Russia - the bronze medal of EURO2008

    ЦСКА - a cup of UEFA 2005

Zenith - a cup of UEFA 2008 and an UEFA supercup

    Russian quality players:

SHALIMOV - He has won with INTER milan a cup of UEFA 1994

KHARIN - He has won with CHelsea UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 1998

ALENICHEV - He has won with PORTO Champions League of UEFA 2004

  • @M26MASH and :

    ghirkov - Chelsea F.C

    arshavin - Arsenal

    izmailov(mishar) - Sporting Lisboa

    bilaletdinov(mishar) - Everton F.C.

    pavlutchenko - Tottenham Hotspur

    pogrebniak - Stuttgart

and As many americans or canadians play in europe and whether they have won that something???

  • @M26MASH In the fourth - in my post was available in view that Canadians play very rough, being covered with that it ostensibly rough kind of sport, but in those kinds of sports where it is really necessary to have rough qualities, Canadians are not present

  • @M26MASH In the fifth - that interval of time which you have presented is just the period of economic and political destabilization of russia when many kinds of sports have ceased to be supported by the government. If you will look statistics till this period you will see that we dominated in the majority of kinds of sports, that so irritated Americans, whose successes in many respects thanking only to medicine i.e. steroids

In the sixth - america won in cold war, russia will win in HOT war

  • @AHRZAMANBALASY Big Man......Thank u for the response. 2nd, while some of your english was broken, it was far better then my Russian which is non-existent. 3rd, I'm sure you make some great points. 4th, who is anyone kidding, when it comes to sport, the US and "USSR" (for the purpose of this discussion are very equal when its all said and done. Now...the fFyers still beat the Red Army's ass in 1976 and if yas didnt like it, u should have done something about it. We still respect grealty!

  • @M26MASH In the seventh - My congratulations

  • @AHRZAMANBALASY Finally....you seem like a gentlemen whom I would like to buy a beer (or vodka) and Cheesesteak (phila. delicacy) haha.

After, we would debate hockey, and have many more drinks.

  • i had that tape when I was young. Thanks so much good memories

  • This was the only time other cities liked the flyers

  • @PhillyBoy264

You mean “other AMERICAN cities” I believe?

I read a lot of commentaries about CSKA vs. Fl 86.

And it seems that the others parts of the globe have opposing opinion.

So. Maybe you guess that the cities are in America only?

Or you forget that CSKA is The Guest Star?

So let me know why you speak about NA cities only when you are commenting the international match?

Have you wish to insult or to show something about yourself?

  • Red Army Big Revenge on Flhyers in 84 and 92 no contest. Fetisov Kasatonov win big

  • winter olympics back in north american time zone. i cait wait for hockey

  • Barber's hit on Kharlamov wasn't clean at all. Whoever thinks it was is biased, blind, or stupid.

  • Russians = babies

This was so amazing! A club team made up of Canadians beat a Soviet national team both physically and skillfully. Well done! If it wasn't for Tretiak, the USSR wouldn't have won a single game in the series.

  • @mm647165

    mm647165 =c linical idiot.

    Flyers vs. USSR national team???!!!

    Are you dreaming, mad???

What is «flyers»? What mean this word?

In the my dictionary it means «diarrhea.

    What language are speaking you?

  • @before2after The Red Army team essentially was a National team, perhaps not literally, but from lineup perspective it was an "national team". While you may have a negative perspective of the Flyers, their aggressive style of hockey was simply a style which could not be match by the Soviets. I question your intellectual capabilty when simply reffering to the Flyers as diarrhea. Justify your answer in 500 words or less if you feel they are such. Pls. present fact, figures and proof.

  • @M26MASH First: there never be in the world sport club “Red Army”.

Second: CSKA never was USSR national team. Usually 30-60%.

Third and main: Flayers played not hard, they played dirty really.

They attacked players without puck and they attacked high with stick.

And referees was “blame” because on the kitty was reputation of NHL.

  • @M26MASH The great CSKA stopped that cheap comedy with leaving the ice.

CSKA returned to the ice (but not to the game really) for politic and for many for state only.

I have no wish to insult Fl funs because for me every players in every kind of sport are diarrhea if they try to traumatize profession colleagues.

  • @mm647165 you not normal person..you realy need doctors consalting you

  • its not hockey

  • iheard the flyers all spit on thier hands before they shook.ha ha great stuff

  • the flyers proved themselves above everyone .won the cup 2 years in a row n the commies want to come into thier house n emmbaress them .r u fucking kidding me . daveyboy take commie cock out of your mouth u faggott .did u see the hit richards put on kovalev last season heh i guess that was dirty too .tell me whos your favorite player .let me guess hes russian ha u fucking traitor wait till next year more bonecrushing hits to come close ur eyes if it upsets u LETS GO FLYERS LETS GO

  • fucking idiots, flyers were playing dirty on soviets and the soviets just wanted to play clean hockey.

  • im pretty sure if u watch the game all of the hits were clean, im sorry russia is full of a bunch of communist pussies, and im guessing ur russian?

  • no im not russian, but if u look at it in the other way russians werent alowed to hit back and u know how strict it was in soviet union

  • okay, hitting is a major part of hockey, the sport involves both aspects to make the game complete, im sorry the russians were pussies and couldnt take a CLEAN hit, it was CLEAN HOCKEY, and obviously the flyers out skilled them too if they won 4-1. get over yourself.

  • soviets just suck

  • last few years canadians suck ;-) And Soviet hockey was always more interesting

  • @Sammium how so? Quantify your claims, otherwise they have no basis.

  • I have this same video, I love it :D.

  • I remember that game. I was living in Philly at the time. Those Soviets were a bunch of crybaby pussies.

  • just like crosbey

  • wimps

  • the only reason the russians finished the game was eagleson threatened to with hold the teams money if they did not finish the game.

in those days no one said shit back to eagleson it was not until later they realized what a thieving piece of shit eagleson was

  • you cant win 2 stanley cups on thuggery alone so dont just say the flyers were goons and also this was one of the cleanest games the flyers ever played back then

  • yeah there was like, no fights ahaha. That's unheard of back then for the Flyers. But the crazy soviets still bitch about a clean hit. das vidanya, Comrade!

  • The Challenge Cup in '79 sounds like a novelty. The NHL was embarassed in the series, but the players were voted by the fans, and had no experience as a comprehensive team. The NHL players obviously had no motivation to play. The Stanley Cup is what the NHL players hold as important. The Soviets were plucked from their cradles by the state as mere infants to play hockey. Is this correct? I am Russian by descent, but the Free World rules. Nice try!

  • I'd rather listen to Larry Robinson who said things like "you'd always like to win for your country" and "there's the same emotion here as in the 7th game of the Stanley cup finals" when interviewed between periods 1 and 2 in the 3rd game.

Bossy-Trottier-Gillies, Lafleur-Shutt, Barber-Clarke, McDonald-Sittler... They should have known how to play together. By the 3rd game, the Soviets had many players missing.

'78-83 Canada did a lousy job of proving their superiority over the Soviets.

  • Oops, my bad. You mean all-stars? We knew them as Islanders. It happens.

  • My freind, yes a team on the decline. Past their prime. And, the Flyers are still my team. Ups + downs.

  • Not to worry. Clarkie (and Barber) got a taste of their own medicine, when their All-Star-Wussies were so pathetically outclassed (2 out of 3) by the Greatest team ever iced in MSG, February 1979. Team of Bossy, Lafleur, Trottier, Perreault, Robinson etc. can't even get a good scoring chance in the last 90 minutes of play? Poor, poor, poor.

  • Wasn't that the same Soviet team that lost the Olympics to a bunch of college kids?

  • "Bunch of college kids"? Wow, never heard that before, how original! Yeah, basically it was the same team, so what does that say about Canada in '79 and in '81? How crappy were they then?

BTW, the Soviets almost lost to Finland and amateur Canada in Lake Placid too, and that should tell how off-form they were in that particular tournament. Still they weren't getting trounced (by scores of 1-8 and 0-6!)

  • What is says is throwing all stars together for a day or two doesn't make you a team and playing together for years in a well developed system gives you a clear advantage...So when you get pounded 6-3 your TEAM can make adjustments and win just as lopsided as game next time out...

  • Whatever you say, chief. I'll just save some time for the both of us. You obviosly would rather sell your mother than admit that the Soviets were better (even for a second or minute) even thogh the evidence says otherwise (79-83). So goodbye & good luck.

  • Best on best the Soviets beat Canada twice...81, where admittedly the Soviets were better and 79 when the NHL threw together an all-star game and the NHL players were supposed to be a team in 3 days when the Soviets had been preparing as a team for months...Is that your evidence? Sorry guy...I got two words for ya...Canada Cup!

  • Okay, here we go :D. I'm sure Bossy-Trottier-Gillies, Clarke-Barber, Lafleur-Shutt, McDonald-Sittler were complete strangers to one another.

The Soviets were preparing mainly for the Wch, not for the friggin' Challenge Cup.

"NHL all-stars" = Team Canada (in all but name)

and once again: IF the NHL players weren't ready, they should have said "f*** you, Al the Eagle, John Ziegler" or whoever was responsible for the Challenge Cup.

And how many Soviet players had played "years" together???

  • Well, it took Team Canada a while to come together as a team in 72 even though there were many NHL team mates on the club...Different team different system...needs to be honed, roles need to be established etc. (especially at that level...Can't play shinny with the Soviets. That's what the Challenge Cup amounted to...shinny)...Soviets had the advantage of preparation...That was obvious.

  • Well, in '72 they beat the Soviets (and quite convincingly) already in the 2nd game!

Of course they had the advantage of preparation, I don't and have not argued about that.

But didn't NHL also have some advantages?: home ice, NHL rules, injured Soviet players (before & during the series)... I'm not claiming that the Challenge Cup could be compared with Canada Cup, but it was not just any old All-star game... and you know it. And the hockey was pretty fast & good, compared to '72, at least

  • @Cercopithecus47 in half the games it was international rules on international ice in ussr. and canada's best player was hobbled. (bobby orr)

  • I would hate the Flyers if they were not my team.

  • HAHAHA! That's classic, I'm going to use that phrase!

  • explain how goonery scores goals or accomplishes anything other than seriously injuring other human beings.

  • the bullies takin it to sume faggot russians YEA BOYYSS

  • @Shawnsta91 looks you are the faggot by you self

  • welcome to america....fag russians

  • Sorry, that hit was abuse and considered criminal be law outside the arena.

  • lol nice even though most people on philly were canadians but the american fans chipped in to so ur comment stands

  • @rhoads04 dont even call you self american....you are the faggot one

  • US are so ideots.

  • Break a guy's ankle because you can't skate with him. Real classy.

  • you're an idiot. you obviously don't know anything about hockey or sports in general. it's called strategy. the flyers' rough and tumble approach threw other teams off of their game and forced them to make mistakes.

that is hockey at its finest, and i feel sorry that you're so ignorant.

  • I guess you missed the Soviet kick in the same series...Real girly

  • How do you compare those two incidents? Or do you think the Soviets said: "Hey, that Gary Bergman is killing us, take him out"? Yeah, right.

The other was a deliberate act, the other happened in the heat of the moment.

  • Well, I've seen a lot in hockey...but I'd never seen a guy kick a guy before..."heat of the moment"? What's that a hissy fit?

  • bunch of Canadian boys kickin' Soviet ass.

  • 3rd year in history the banner in the wachovia is gunna look sweet

  • BROAD STREET! No one is more physical than Philadelphia even today. NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY IN PHILLY! WE GOT THE BEST FANS, WE'LL KILL ANYONE (I mean the fans) and thats the truth. Philadelphia wins the cup again.

  • god bless fred shero

  • die hard ranger fan and this is what i have to say.....go flyers in kickin the shit outta those faggot ass russians. pussies....wanted to run away...ha ha.....

  • no...i would never live to "tack" about it?.....and i love ovechkin, dont bring him up in this...its shameless. on another note, hows democracy treating you valerie....americans really roped you dumbasses into that one. ha.

  • My name is not "valerie". About the "tack" thing, i misstyped the word, i meant to say "talk", i speak 3 languages by the way, how about you? "Democracy" is treating me well, im enjoying it in my 30 thousand dollar per year private Swiss university, and no, Americans have nothing to do with "Democracy" in russia. "Democracy" is a so called lie so that America can justify attacking/aggresing other nations in order to give "freedom" to their people, IRAQ caugh caugh caugh

  • sorry Ivan, but although I am an american, i dont live in the states. I speak three languages also, Japanese, Chinese and English. 30 thousand dollars a year is a rip-off, they dont teach spelling?...and although we are wrong being in Iraq, its nice to know that we, at any time mind you, can kick the shit out of any country.

  • imagine if u acted like this as an individual imagine going into work and saying "im the best worker here im way better then all u fuckers i can kick the shit out of all of u" makes u look like an ass if u do that it does, instead uve made ur country look like one" thats one reason people dont like america as much anymore

  • your right dickkipguitar...I have seen the light, and I will try to be a better person. I realize that me alone, with my comments on youtube could change the way everyone around the world views americans. I am so powerful, and yet so flawed.

  • really cuz im pretty sure the end of the cold war was when the ussr collapsed and u became a democratic country. and since the cold war was between us and the soviets, id say america has to do with democracy in russia

  • @ temahoney

on another note, hows democracy treating you valerie....americans really roped you dumbasses into that one. ha.

    haha no doubt

  • Oh please give it a rest you stupid commie shit. Russia is a god damn joke and you know it. How's that huge artic wasteland, anyways?

  • your a peice of shit. thats all there is to say. russia is a shithole. nd cocky or not our country could wipe out your entire country in a split second so fuck off with your pride cuz theres no use kid.

  • hey I will agree that game they were knocking them around and ya there is no doubt russia hockey players have skill but to say canadians don't have skill is a little off. We are currently the world juniour champs and have won four in a row. And what about crosbey can you say he is a thug player no he has skill and plenty of it. yes hockey in north america is physical but to say there is no skill in north america is a little off.

  • what is the name of the song at the beginning ?

  • nevermind, it's philadelphia freedom by elton john

  • Too bad the Russians were physicaly intimidated by the bullies. Otherwise they would have beaten them. They had way more skill.

  • who gves a fuck we beat the shit out of you pussies

  • Everyone hates Russia The Red army left the ring because they were triained not to get into any physical content !!! So could every1 shutup about the USSR! usa isn't any better then Russia!!!

  • I'm glad we (philadelphians) kicked the crap out of them soviet bastards! anyone who is bitchin about the Flyers not being fair on the ice can go and move to some bullshit commie country. At least you have your freedom to say what you want pussies! FUCK THE RUSSIANS...Always the enemy, never can be trusted...Gen.Patton was right. Should have faught them in 1945!

  • four score and seven years ago...whoops, wrong speech...hang on let me take some of your geritol here...Americans! There are some who say better dead than red. Balderdash says I! There is a fate worse than both death and communism. That is the fate of living in Filthadephia, the United States' only third world city.

  • The big bad red army was considered the greatest hockey team in all the world, the Flyers were defending their status as Stanley Cup Champions, the Flyers played that 70's ol' time NHL hockey...and the Reds simply couldn't handle it.

  • The Flyers got their arses kicked by the Habs three months later in the finals. THEY (the Habs)were the greatest team in the world at the time.

  • Flyer Nation!

  • Dirty unfair play, unexpected by Russians

  • The lowest most vicious evil pricks that the world has ever known.

    And the russians sucked too.

  • I watched this game when I was 8 years old and from what I can remember the Flyers played this game like they played every game back then they played to win. Hockey is not a game for Pussy's and back then they were far from being Pussy's. Plus I'm from Philly not many Pussy's here!

  • AMEN eaglerus64!

  • YEAH! The Flyers beat the crap out of those Soviet punks.

  • dude the flyers are beasts. everyones just jealous that they couldnt beat them. we didnt use cheap shots, we played good old time hockey. no speed and finesse, if u want that go watching figure skating.

  • We? What number were you?

  • @flyershockey61

    And the result:

    79 Fl vs. Krylya 4:4

    90 Fl vs. CSKA 4:5

    91 Fl vs. Dinamo 1:4

So, told you something about figure skating?

Good idea for beaten in hockey Flyers!

  • @before2after And you forgot

    1983 Fl vs. Soviets 1:5

  • @before2after Dynamo debile

  • bunch of pussys gave up!!!

    hahaha!!!

    go flyers

  • get a fuckng life respodint to commin a have mad like one year ago! red army suck !! ass hole

  • You commie bastards got beat down like bitches. I bet that really stings your pride, doesn't it?

  • a movie should be made about this game. the year of the bicentennial. a contest between russian and western athletes. the stoppage in play.

  • listen to bob cole yelling "they're goin' home!"

  • cheap shots on the russians

  • I watched the game as a kid. The Flyers were hitting everything that wasn't nailed down, and the Russians did not want to get hit at all.

The misconception is that the Russians skated off because the Flyers were cheap-shotting people. Total untruth. That was probably the cleanest game I ever saw the Flyers play, good solid hits that you see every day in the NHL.

The Russians thought they could skate around the Flyers like they did everyone else on that tour of the NHL.

  • I remember watching this game as a kid as well and I couldn't agree more. While the Flyers did play them tough, they did not demonstrate their ultimate thuggery in this game. The Flyers were a very good team and the Russians were just frustrated. Hey, you can't win two cups by goonery and thuggery alone.

    Cheers

  • If it was Thuggery and Goonery, the russians wouldn't have been ABLE to walk to the locker room...

  • You aint kidding. I saw many flyers games from the broad street bullies days. Compared to some of the regular season bloodlettings i saw the flyers involved in, this game was "soft" in comparison. And there was nothing thuggish about the Flyers top line scorers, all of whom were flat out studs.

  • @yahmpy only the canadians skated rings around them. the only reason they tied the canadians was dryden sucked in net - 3 goals on 13 shots and tretriak stood on his head stopping 35 of 38.

  • u better be a girl cuz thats not normal if u a guy

  • flyers can lick my pussy. FUCK YOU ALL!!!

  • soviet union is still the alltime best team and always will be

  • yeah they did real well in the world hockey chapionships this month......NOT

  • this is not USSR national team. It's their best pro team, just like the Flyers were the best pro team in North America at the time (two straight cups).

  • Was this game really that big a deal in Philly. I don't remember it.

  • flyers was somme killers on ice!!! in russia suck !

  • ya ur just jellous that our team is better >_>

  • You're facts are worse than your grammer. That was the cleanest game the Flyers played all year; every team tryed to match "The Red Army", The Flyers came out and played their style of game and caught the Russians off guard.

  • "You're facts are worse than your grammer."

    I laughed.

but seriously, everyone seems to forget the flyers whooped that soviet ass baby.

  • All i know is that i watched this game in 76 and the Flyers weren`t playing hockey. They were there to injure players. This was during the cold war and for the Flyers it would seem, winning was everything!!!! And they used brute force. There is nothing to be proud about this game. Say what you want, there is no honor here. This is false propaganda.

  • This is the only Flyer game I ever liked! The Russians thought it was an exhibition game. Remember this the same team that won Gold medal after Gold medal. But just don't hit 'em.

  • pussy.

  • haha true 3rd grade spirit there, these guys hit to hard, these guys score to much, these guys are tough, i wanna go home

  • people sure do like to fight on you tube don't they.

  • Here's what I am getting from the comments: The Flyers were the best team in the world at the time, but the world is full of sore losers who would rather call the Flyers names than admit defeat.

The Flyers played a physical, offensive game, and they won. They should have won. It was hockey. If they didn't want to get checked, they should have challenged to soccer.

The Flyers were dominate. Deal with it.

  • Oops, I meant: It was hockey. If the USSR didn't want to get checked, they should have challenged us to soccer.

  • The Flyers were just on their last legs, as the Montreal Canadiens would show them to be in the 1976 Finals. I'm no Habs fan but they handled the Flyers in 4 straight games to win the Cup. The Habs only lost 11 games all-year and their game against the Red Army on New Year's Eve was a classic. The teams tied 3-3 because Ken Dryden stunk in the Habs goal, but the Habs dominated the Russians and outshot them 36-13.

  • The Flyers were swept in the 1976 finals; but were not at all embarassed. Three of the games were one-goal decisions. Wayne Stephenson was simply no Bernie Parent.

Still, I'm inclined to agree the better-skating, more-disciplined team won.

In the memorable Montreal-Red Army New Year's Eve game, Dryden did not look good. His counterpart at the other end stood on his head and was the game's first star.

  • Actually, Montreal knew they had the Cup won as a result of a pre-season game in Philly the previous September.

The previous night, Philly beat Montreal at the Forum. Dave Schultz scored the winner and cross-checked Yvan Cournoyer into the ice.

Scotty Bowman challenged his larger 'nameless' players to make a stand the next night at the Spectrum. They responded. They won the game 6-2 and all the fights by an even greater margin.

  • Those Flyers were a bunch of idiot THUGS. I've seen this complete game several times and I must say that it is the most embarrasing sporting event ever to take place in the USA. The Flyers did nothing but throw elbows, sticks and fist and completely slashed and hacked the Red Army (CSKA) team to death. They especially went after Kharlamov (who had already had his ankle broken by a Bobby Clark hack in 1972).

  • Guys like MacLeish, Lonsberry, Parent, Bladon, and the Watson bros were not idiot thugs. You're painting all the players with the same brush.

Yes, the Flyers did dish out some dirt in that game; but I can't say that I'm sorry. The officiating in the four games in Moscow in '72 was so disgustingly biased that it WAS an embarassment to the game.

Just remember, the Flyers also shelled Tretiak with nearly 50 shots, and were full marks for the win.

  • Incorrect.

The Flyers did more than throw elbows, sticks, and fists.

They put the puck in the net four times.

They only let the Russians put it in once.

As a result of scoring more goals than the Russians, they won the game 4-1.

That result will stand no matter how many candy-asses bitch and complain 32 years after the fact.

  • Real cheating takes place when you have fewer points than the other team at the cessation of the game...then insist there is more time on the clock...then fail to score within the time that you argued was still on the clock, but wasn't...then you argue for MORE time...then finally score, but leave time remaining on the clock...then leave the playing area, insisting the game is over, even though there is still the time that you argued was on the clock--remaining.

    See 1972 Olympic basketball.

  • hey you piece of communist shit... I"m Canadian and we rule hockey... so go fuck your sister like you inbred sacks of shit do good

  • -))) yeah, in 76 russians kicked ass in usa. game against the flyers was just a fight...im sure that if they played 10 games with a normal referee on neutral ground the soviets would win 9 of them

  • Way to go, Flyers. Kick the daylights out of the commie punks.

I remember watching this game on television that Sunday afternoon. I've always been a Bobby Clarke fan. My brother hated the Flyers, but he loved them in this game. That's how it was!

To think the final score actually flattered the Red Army. I could watch this heartwarming massacre over and over again.

    Let Russian girls cry.

  • i like how american pussies take pride in their few victories, yet remain ignorant of their many defeats. did u see how us&a got manhandled by russia in the most recent olympics, in a game that meant nothing to russians and meant everything to yankies

  • Most of the players were Canadian genius.

  • candians are just american bitches. if it wasn't for US, canada would probably been already overrun by mongolians or something hahaha

  • Look who's American. You can't even spell 'Canadians' and you call US American?

Where do the majority of NHL players still come from?
