Thanks very much your video was right on. The only thing I would do is mark the screws that come out of the top shield cover as they are I believe 5 screws and they are different. would be much easier the 2nd time and I wore gloves as to not leave finger oil. Thank you
Disassembly part was fine but did not appreciate the "reassembly" which was just the video in reverse. Would be nice to have the full talk through as I ended up having to check another video.
CAN WE REPLACE JUST THE GLASS??... NO WAY. So why does ebay (or others) sell just the glass?? There is NO WAY that just the glass can be replaced without a fight! I happen to have an extra front glass (glass only). I tried to get the glass out..... NO FREAKIN WAY! The whole thing is totally GLUED together. First thing I do while attemping to pull glass off... Destroyed the LCD. Its SO fragile! I can see, you GOTTA BUY THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY. $40 on ebay
So why am I watching this video! Cause I just dropped my iphone and broke the glass.. Had thoughts about selling with the broken lcd, then said forget about getting a sale. People are afraid of taking my word that its a $40 fix, they think Im hiding another kind of defect, since they cant operate the phone. So Im just gonna buy the part do it myself and save myself from losing too much money
@karynmiles the not cool part is that the eBay seller sold you that knowing that it would not fix your iPhone. Even worse is selling just glass without the digitizer. Ask for a refund.
Mine is the older version for the iPhone 4. My screen wont show. The backlight turns on but I can't see the.screen. If I get a new screen, when I do this, would it work?
@khambeuy if the top shield. specifically the longest screw that holds it in place isn't installed on the iPhone 4. That will cause the iPhone to have a weak wifi signal.
1: my battery was glued in pretty good, so i had to remove the main board and the speaker assembly and then get the battery out, which was still hard at the end without trying to damage it
2. the screws with the washers that hold the screen, (3 on each side) don't have to be completely removed, just loosen them as much as you can without removing the actual screw and the screen will still be removable, the 4 in the corners will have to be removed
I work for an electronics repair company called GoTronics and I just wanted to say this is a very well made video and the instructions are done very well. This is the number one phone we get and it is 99% for a broken screen repair.
Would just like to point out from a previous post that my Red iPhone still looks awesome!! I had to take my phone apart again because my on/off button was broken and after repairing it I've been having problems with my proximity sensor. If you do change your screen just remember this is a well know problem with the iPhone 4. ;-)
speaker mesh make sure it's got the sticky glue residue on it. If you haven't (like me) you can just get some tweezers and pull it off the old screen and stick it onto the new one. Thanks for the vid! My phone looks awesome! ;-)
Hey, would just like to say I've brought the Red conversion kit off eBay and installed it using this video. Went perfectly and if you follow the steps it's not that hard. Just remember the screws are ridiculously small!! I got myself a large sheet of paper and replicated the circles as on the video just to make sure I knew were everything was. The only tips i'd add to this video is that the battery on my phone was stuck down so I had to use a bit of force to get it out. Also, when removing the
If something happens and you lose track of 'what size screws go where' just search for 'iphone 4 Screw Size Chart' and choose the one with my channel name. Its in 1080p so you can see it very clearly. It was scanned at 600dpi and I used Digital Callipers to measure each screw as I took them out, I also double checked the measurements against another iPhone 4 so it should be good reliable info...
Is it just me, or have apple made it more difficult to do the easy jobs compared to the 3rd generation iPhones? The most common damage done on iPhones (well, any phone really) is a broken lcd or digitizer, and they've made it more complicated to get to...
That's not the the faint of heart, i misplaced the tiny screws at least 3 times, but it's doable. I could've only done with the help of this video. Thank you!
@prochafilho use a magnet and as u disassemble put the screws you pull out onto it so they dont roll away. Using multiple magnets helps specially where different size screws are in question.
Thanks for the video - worked great for me. First try and everything was working other than the vibrator. had to re-seat that and then all was good. A word of warning though, the $35 (shipped) display that I bought off ebay works fine, but looks washed out and streaky. I'm sure I'll be doing another replacement when I find a reputable seller with OEM displays.
im gonna post my first attemp at following along with this, i have a severelerly cracked front glass,,,everything works fine, camera touch sensitivity, the glide works fine and what not, but it looks fucking horrible, i hear its a 12$ fix kit from amazon im gonna use, will post soon
i did all this. and powered it up. it all works fine but the battery wont charge. it shows the charge zig zag sign in the top corner for a few seconds then goes to a plug sign as if its fully charged. i dont know what to do next. i have tried restore and recover and holding the power/home button. still the same
i was able to remove the back :) and thennn i tried to remove the 1st battery screw and wasnt able to =/ sucks!! none of the screw drivers seem to b able to remove it -_-
does anyone know where iphoneshopusa gets there lcd/digitizers? I can't find any lcd/digitizer replacements that dont have an ugly grid above the speaker grill. The replacement screen iphoneshopusa uses looks completely OEM. Any help?
can we replace the white screen of iPhone 4 into the iPhone 4 black one? Does the Screen of White one match with the black one ? Thanks for the great tutorial.
After you do 10+ new screen installs, you can have your screen replacements down to 20minutes or less easily. And that is being careful with what you are doing as well.
@TheInsaneMembrain Thanks for the tips! I performed my first replacement yesterday, and the screws with the washers was what took me the longest, I spent forever trying to get them back in (i should have used a magnetic driver). I will definitely do this for my next repair!
wow great tutorial! i know for next time, an iPhone 4's screen can be replaced. i wish i would've seen this first. but it was to late when me and my partner had to go to the apple store and told her that she had to buy a new one to replace her old iPhone 4. what a bitch
Excellent tutorial. I appreciate the time and effort put into the details. I will order from your company because you have proven to be reputable and knowledgeable... ;)
I replaced my front and back by this video and yes it works and is very acurate. I just wish it didn't reverse the video and they actually talked to you during the reconstruction.
Can you replace just the front glass? Is there a way to remove the LCD/Digitizer from the glass? I see videos of everyone changing the whole screen assembly, but I see people selling just the glass on eBay.
@HillBrothersVideo Don't buy just the glass. it is impossible to remove the LCD from the glass. It is glued and if you try to separate it the LCD WILL break.
@Sk8AnotherDay That's what I thought I would do before I got one. I was unfortunate enough to break it two weeks later though, because of a hole in my pocket which the phone went through straight onto a pavement. :) Also a day later it slipped from a shelf in my bathroom resulting in twice as big damage to the screen.
Now I'm buying a new digitizer along with a new LCD to be able to read iBooks again. Good luck with your future iPhone though :)
Thanks for putting this up. I took me 4 hours to complete. The hardest parts for me was removing the battery and screwing the tiny screws. Using a hairdryer made the job a lot more easy. To screw the tiny screws you'll need a magnetic screwdriver. You can make your screwdriver magnetic by hitting it with a hammer. It sounds weird but it does work.
what i'm trying to figure out is does the front digitizer come with those legs that the screws clamp into place so the screen doesn't fall out? I have yet to find out how to get my digitizer to stay in place I ordered the part from a seller on ebay with high posotive feed back and the digitizer I got is just a piece of glass ETC but theres no legs or fingers.. coming off the glass around the edges for screws to hold it in place
Why did they make this so much harder? For 3G, it's like "Yeah just pop off three screws, unplug the cable, and you're done". For 4, it's really invasive.
@redjuggler2040 because the front screen was reinforced ( gorilla glass = stronger ) and they expected you to break the back glass which probably isnt gorilla glass , so you wouldn´t have to pay so much for the whole screen . capiche ?
hello, ive been searching all the net with this question but nowere to be found, muy sim tray got completrly stuck inside, is therea waey to take it out by opening my iphone 4? or did i just screw everything up, :(
@gfrhgrthrhrthr you could get a paperclip, bend the very very tip of it to an L shape, place into your sim hole and pry outwards. if you try to take your motherboard out you might damage it with the sim tray stuck inside the motherboard.
I have done this before and it worked.
hope this helps if you havent already figured it out.
Wow, that was the most excellent "How To" video that I have ever seen. I would have paid for that instruction. Now, I'll go to your website and order some things. I guess that was the original goal of this? Mission Accomplished guys.
@LegacyofSupremacy - Sorry mate. There is no way of doing this. Has to be purchased as a complete kit with the screen and digitizer. They cost around £45 on ebay. If you purchased a digitizer on its own, they have ripped you off.. Send it back
@roob5 nice to hear you got your iPhone 4 back to working and looking new. what was the hardest part in doing the repair yourself? glad our iPhone 4 repair video helped out.

You do not have to remove the 6 screw with the washers.
Just back them off until they feel like they are about to come off, then tighten half turn.
The screen bezel clips will slide freely as you remove the screen.
The new screen will slide back in with no problem with the screws and washers still in place.

hello, ive been searching all the net with this question but nowere to be found, muy sim tray got completrly stuck inside, is therea waey to take it out by opening my iphone 4? or did i just screw everything up, :(
gfrhgrthrhrthr 9 months ago
@gfrhgrthrhrthr you could get a paperclip, bend the very very tip of it to an L shape, place into your sim hole and pry outwards. if you try to take your motherboard out you might damage it with the sim tray stuck inside the motherboard.
I have done this before and it worked.
hope this helps if you havent already figured it out.

Wow, that was the most excellent "How To" video that I have ever seen. I would have paid for that instruction. Now, I'll go to your website and order some things. I guess that was the original goal of this? Mission Accomplished guys.

So is there a way to remove to LCD from the glass?
LegacyofSupremacy 10 months ago
@LegacyofSupremacy - Sorry mate. There is no way of doing this. Has to be purchased as a complete kit with the screen and digitizer. They cost around £45 on ebay. If you purchased a digitizer on its own, they have ripped you off.. Send it back

A pity nobody does show how to remove the dock conector
belzebrut 10 months ago
@belzebrut when you remove the mouthpiece unit you can just unscrew the dock connector and remove it. its pretty simple actually.
