The cake was beautiful. They had the pictures of it. Most likely the whoever set up the table did pay for the cake. The wait staff saved the day and acted in drill fashion. This was a good, fun accident. No harm, no foul.
They were very good sports i'll give them that but, if that had been my husband & i, the company whom supplied the table, would have been paying for the cake.
i have 4 daughters, if each of them comes home one day (well, it would be on different days)and says, "this is my new husband -- we just wanted to let you know we're married" -- i would be no worse for the wear.
And since the overwelming question has been, Did they make you pay for the cake? or something along those lines, let's just say we were more than reimbursed and it was a great story
Anybody wants cake after it fell cuz it sure looks like they still gonna serve it

Obviously neither of them is an engineer. An engineer would have stress-tested the table (and maybe the cake!).
