Teach your children to sing . . . heard Schooner Fare sing that tune at the Milwaukee Irish Fest almost thirty years ago. Bought three of their albums--vinyl. Tight harmonies, driving bass, and damn good tunes!
Nice choice of pictures for the video - I haven't heard this vesrion before and it is nice to hear a traditional Scottish song accompanied by the banjo. Good one thanks for posting
Thanks, honestly I just went for a few Scottish regimental pictures I could find online and then whatever I had on my harddrive that was military. This is an excellent version done by two of us Yanks. If you are interested in a more traditional sounding one, I'd check out the one I posted by Gaberlunzie.
I saw the one you posted by Gaberlunzie - really good, however, I still like this version because it is so unusual to hear it with the banjo - thanks again
Yes, they are still around. A few years ago they lost Tom Rowe and recently released their first post-Rowe album as a duo. (I think it's called something like "And Two Shall Rowe.) Google them for a schedule. They have two gigs this December (2009) at The Barnes At Wolf Trap in Virginia.
Great song and well performed. I used to watch Schooner Fare at The Piece of Work Pub in Auburn Maine oh so many years ago (28 to be exact). They could really play. Anyone know if they are still around? I hear they used to play in Alexandria VA.
I don't mean by this artist, though that'd be great. I was just wondering if you know of any artist that put out the full version. But thanks anyway :)
haha, I know how it feels to be an exeption at this point.
I love things from the past, I`m probably the only teenager who likes ABBA, The Beatles, Johnny Cash and fell in love with the Scottish and Irish (let`s say Celtic) culture. It`s a culture from the heart and not from the fist or the sword.
love it

You don't happen to have their version of Nova Scotia Farewell (aka Farewell to Nova Scotia)? I heard it on Pandora but can't find it anywhere.

Why do people keep listening to the modern shxxs, and forget these kinda real music?
Anyway we should get used to it... nowdays the world's a bit strange..

I like the Gaberlunzie version and also The Corries later version after Bill Smith had left the band.

Excellent post Aleesb. Loved it. Especially the intense door gunner at the end. However, they did leave out one verse.
With your tattie porin's and yer meal and kale,
Yer soor sowan' soorin's and yer ill-brewed ale,
Yer buttermilk, yer whey, and yer breid fired raw.
Sae list my bonnie laddie and come awa.
Still a great version, though.

They were too busy singing the chorus 15 times.

Wonderful!
It very nearly has a Southern swing to it! Is that a banjo I hear in it?
Definitely a favorite!

@AlabamaSoldier
1) Yes. That is a finger-picked banjo.
2) It is in strict Scottish march tempo. It has no swing in it whatsoever, much less "Southern" swing- which is sycopated.

This is the full version of the song from the CD I have--if they made a longer one, I don't have it. Sorry.

No; I've only got this version and the other version I uploaded (by Gaberlunzie) if you find the full version you'll have to let me know.

This song is absolutely lovely.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
Have you ever thought that a teenager would like such a music. Go away with your dance and trance and listen to the real voices

I am a Teenager and I love such music.But I´m a exception.
It´s one of the best versions I´ve ever heard. Greetings from Germany
