I think they may mean a lot of things, since the song is more abou mood of Shinji and Eva in general then literary references.

Im with you !! Unfortunately I still get shit when Im out and about wearing a Fightstar T-shirt ! I really do not understand these people ! Im sure they all love Kasabian and Oasis and general generic shit like that. Not to sound condescending but I am very proud of Charlie for what he has done and what he has had to tolerate. Its not so bad now but in the early days he had to put up with alot and he handled it professionally. I have so much respect for that man. Long live Fightstar!

Alot of FS music is influenced by NGE. The art work for Grand Unification is similar to the origional NGE artwork apparently (Iv never seen it myself) and, as someones already said the last line of "lost like..." is "It's Neon genesis" (the name "lost like.. is from the film "blade runner). There are plenty more references too to NGE, Blade runner, Fight club and others, but I won't bore you with them all now.
