I'd say the 2nd wave of billy idol, warrant-down boys, cherry pie, poison-party rock, guns n roses-hard rock with some punk influence was just hard party rock with new wave, punk and metal influence all in one.
@Alex11710 Also, sure maybe by today's "categorization standards" MOST glam would be considered "hard rock". @Alex11710 dude diff kinds of metal and rock exist to convey different messages I mean the ozzy era sabbath was great for its dark and foreboding sound shit I'm an avid Black Metal fan(the real shit not like cradle of filth) so ya know I love really dark music but that doesn't matter Glam metal still kicks ass it's just about something completely different and I'd prefer not to be listening to dark stuff 24-7 glam metal is just fun
@mantuoir --The problem I have with glam "metal" is that it does not conform to the same sort of specific concepts as "true metal". Try and compare any of the "glam" bands to some of the traditional metal bands and figures as portrayed in the film. Would you really call Poison "metal" when they cut to a clip of Lemmy, Ozzy, or Dave Mustaine? Listen to it if you want, but don't even try to call it "metal".
@Alex11710 Poison perhaps not, But the problem with your comment is u chose the most poppy glam band possible to stereotype the entire genre? Poison were a good band yes, bul.........Anyway my point is it doesn't matter what they look like. It's the music.. Guitars, bass, drums. The "heaviness" of them that makes the difference. Not clothes and fashion...True Metal?...Metal has No Rules, It's about breaking the rules. Not "conforming" to some moronic ideals.
@MetalRockNPop ----Metal does have rules. Lenient rules, but still, bending them too far is not necessarily a bad thing, however it does, in fact make it "not metal".
@Alex11710 OK, maybe so BUT, what you look like isn't part of that. Twisted Sister, R U gonna say they aren't metal? I agree that the glam bands looked stupid. But to the ppl that keep saying guys aren't supposed to wear make-up need i remind ya that according to those same ol ideals you refer to in saying that, Guys aren't supposed to have long hair AT ALL. Which unfortunately includes thrash metal too. AGAIN>MUSIC>NOT LOOKS>NOT LYRICS>MUSIC is what makes the difference between metal or not!!
@MetalRockNPop ----I did not say anything about what any of the bands looked like. And I would absolutely say that Twisted Sister is not metal. They were a hard rock band, stylistically and structurally. And it's very manly to have long hair. Not girly hairsprayed, teased-up hair, but long hair. The same can not be said of wearing makeup. Either way, I only addressed the content of the glam bands music, I did not say anything about their "image".
@Alex11710 you're right, i've been re-reading your comments and you didn't say some the things ive been talking about. SORRY. But i still disagree We're Not Gonna Take It, I Wanna Rock, Etc are Metal songs. Also, Long hair, Manly or not depends on who u ask. Try to get certain jobs with long hair. besides i agree glam bands looked stupid. Also I'M NOT TRYIN 2 INSULT U when i say that...it just sounds to me like ur excusing long hair cuz most thrash bands also had it too. Just without spray.
@Alex11710 Also, sure maybe by today's "categorization standards" MOST glam would be considered "hard rock". Then again i don't really care for today's standards any more than i do for today's new artists. By recent categorization ideals, Elvis Presley: The king of ROCK n roll And also the Beatles would be (and are in some ppl's opinions) Pop music????? HUH??? The 2 most influential artists in ROCK!!! history...considered Pop???? So much for any respect for today's categorization of music!!!!
@MetalRockNPop I agree with what you said about the music... guitars, bass drums matter when deciphering what is metal and what is not. Look at Rainbow. That is a fruity name but they were metal.
God, these guys were so corny. I like sex as much as the next guy but they act like they are 13 year old's get their first gimps at a playboy. Haven't they ever heard of playing it cool?
@Flipper79able u miss the point it seems...they wanted to make the most
sexually offensive songs they could, why else would they debut with a song like Animal (Fuck like a beast). "7th grade rock" sure possibly, it all depends on how you look at it i guess. But it was still great headbanging, heavy metal music at it's raunchiest.
@MetalRockNPop Believe me, I didn't miss the point. It would be impossible for anyone over the age of 15 to miss the point. I like songs about sex but I think their songs have a serious lack of imagination. Like I said..... it's okay when your 15, but after awhile, its nice to hear a song about something new to stimulate your imagination.
@Flipper79able true, it did get old after the first few albums. But even they realized that, haven't ya noticed from headless children (1989) and beyond, Rarely a sex song on the entire album. Blackie himself got sick of the overly sexual lyrics too. As for me i like last command & electric circus albums but i also like wasps more recent albums too. As i said, and most fans already know. They "grew Up" & wrote about other things from 1989 on. It Just seems funny some people never mention that??
it was later revealed that the bottles chris had were filled with water. him and randy piper who was also in W.A.S.P filled the bottles up before penelope got there to do the interview.
Ya I see that.....Must just be my brain cells that have passed...lmfao... ... Tough genes in that dude.... Tall as mofo...LOL... Ah the good ol' days...^_^..thanks guys..it's nice to know he's still tickin' along..^_^
love the rockstars , they do rock against drugs charities and stuff then use the money to get high..or something like that..love dice lol if anyone got that reference
chris holmes is a piece of shit, he once said "niggers shouldn't play guitar" referring to slash. chris holmes is a stupid cunt, where is he now? fucking nowhere, slash is still producing platinum records
@paulandj Strings intruments were used in the middle ages in Europe and their heritage can be traced back even farther. Not to desrespect you but, educate yourself a little, even just a little, and you won't be as ignorant (ignarance being a lack of knowledge on a subject, not a bash against you)

@zer0dahero yea i kno i took art appreaciation, music appreciation and all that, but im talking about modern day guitars not a string bound together by sticks "their heritage can be traced back even farther". im sure its traced back to africa as well even further we are very musical people and said to be some of the first people on earth regardless of what "white america" (not bashing you either obviously or i wouldnt be watching this documentary about these great musicians) teaches us.
@paulandj Its always disappointing when people interject some form of racism. Using terms like "niggers" or "white america" as you have done. One can never be sure of the intent or honesty of poeople who do that. Its as if what ever they say afterwards is of no value.
@zer0dahero lol lke i said i didnt mean to offend you and if i did, i apoligize i just couldn't think of a better word, but if i was white i would enjoy the term white america this is your country (now) obama is just a puppet appointed to keep black people happy, im just glad i didnt have to get into sum big drama filled pointless argument, thanks for challenging my statement with maturity.
blacks did NOT invent the guitar. a crude form of it was invented by an italian thousands of years ago and similar things were created by celts and north germanics.
north africa isn't even a traditionally black area. it originally had berbers and fair skinned peoples(before arabs).
sub saharan africa is where the black africans come from.
and las time i checked, leo fender and less paul were the first to help make the hollow and solid body guitars. two white men.
I read that Chris and some friend filled vodka bottles up with water for that interview,... either way he's completely toasted in that interview, legend! I remember watching this first time round, god it takes me back!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
its funny how they say drugs are bad wen the music they play and listen to is a direct bi-product of drug- induced experiences e.g. acid rock, "speed" metal
Chris holmes is NOT dead, biggest load of shit i've ever heard. I agree with some of the posters here.. WASP and Chris holmes are underrated.. he is one hell of a guitar player.
linkin park, disturbed n slipknot are just as fake as these bands, real thrash is still around its just not on the radio, pretty much like its always been, those mall metal bands are still just that
I call it Hot Topic metal. Slipknot, killswitch engage etc. Radio freindly bands arent metal. Yeah im only 26 but bands like Slayer, Manowar, Death Angel Metallica (pre- Load) Motorhead etc were bands that didn't cater to trends and only cared about the fans
this is why THRASH IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SUB GENRE OF METAL OF THE 80's and 90's not GLAM/HAIR look at slipknot, disturbed, godsmack, linkin park, korn ect do any of them talk about being big poison or motley crew fans growing up i havent heard any of them say that now as for metallica, slayer pantera ect thats a big yes
Um no Motley Crue is way different from Poison first of all && Motley Crue stopped being glam after Theatre Of Pain because alot of people were copying that glam/hair look so they just started wearing leather black && dressing as dirty && sleazy as they could ever be in the Girls, Feelgood, && Decade Of Decadence era so get the facts straight. Also Godsmack & The Crue have been touring together with Motley. They rock! They survived the 90's just like Ozzy Pantera Slayer & Metallica!
But all of those nu metal bands are a bit like motley crue and shit beacuse they dont talk about it but they get laid all the time with girls and shit beacuse they are also like rap artist
the nu metal bands don't get laid and are not the monsters that the 80s hard rock bands are and shit-hop is fucking dead. sales are down 45% since 2004. google it if you don't believe me.
the only thing keeping it alive is clear channel radio and cbs owned lame ass eMpTy-V.
otherwise I see chicks dancing to 80s nights at clubs, as well as electrowave and shit like that.
sea agua o vodka hay ke ser bien imbecil para dar esa imagen lastimera de si mismo y kompletar en tan poko tiempo tremendo kakanal de idioteces dichas para la posteridad. bastante taradito en el hair metal, no???
How dare you bash a Metal trail blazer like Chris Holmes! If you are a Metal fan, which I doubt! You would reconize a true master! The Man had a Drinking problem and this is sad! Long live W.A.S.P
Whatever. WASP was OK, but not what I would call groundbreaking. That was left to the real bands, Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, Maiden and so on. Keepin' it real.
i've been around people that can drink that much so that can be real

Well slayer basically said that they grew up on hardcore punk rock like TSOL, circle jerks, minor threat, agent orange, exploited, gbh, etc.
So since most of those bands started in either 79 or 80, they predated venom by an entire year.
Go listen to "abolish govt" by tsol from 1980,. slayer covered them.

5:53, dude, if you'd ever heard Black Sabbath, Vol. 4, you'd never stand for playing glam metal.
Alex11710 1 year ago
@Alex11710 you're opinion dude, I've heard that album and ALL othe Black Sabbath albums as well. and i still listen to glam metal too so....
MetalRockNPop 1 year ago
@Alex11710 dude diff kinds of metal and rock exist to convey different messages I mean the ozzy era sabbath was great for its dark and foreboding sound shit I'm an avid Black Metal fan(the real shit not like cradle of filth) so ya know I love really dark music but that doesn't matter Glam metal still kicks ass it's just about something completely different and I'd prefer not to be listening to dark stuff 24-7 glam metal is just fun
mantuoir 1 year ago
@mantuoir --The problem I have with glam "metal" is that it does not conform to the same sort of specific concepts as "true metal". Try and compare any of the "glam" bands to some of the traditional metal bands and figures as portrayed in the film. Would you really call Poison "metal" when they cut to a clip of Lemmy, Ozzy, or Dave Mustaine? Listen to it if you want, but don't even try to call it "metal".
Alex11710 1 year ago
@Alex11710 Poison perhaps not, But the problem with your comment is u chose the most poppy glam band possible to stereotype the entire genre? Poison were a good band yes, bul.........Anyway my point is it doesn't matter what they look like. It's the music.. Guitars, bass, drums. The "heaviness" of them that makes the difference. Not clothes and fashion...True Metal?...Metal has No Rules, It's about breaking the rules. Not "conforming" to some moronic ideals.
so in that regard GLAM IS METAL.
MetalRockNPop 1 year ago
@MetalRockNPop ----Metal does have rules. Lenient rules, but still, bending them too far is not necessarily a bad thing, however it does, in fact make it "not metal".
Alex11710 1 year ago
MetalRockNPop 1 year ago
@MetalRockNPop ----I did not say anything about what any of the bands looked like. And I would absolutely say that Twisted Sister is not metal. They were a hard rock band, stylistically and structurally. And it's very manly to have long hair. Not girly hairsprayed, teased-up hair, but long hair. The same can not be said of wearing makeup. Either way, I only addressed the content of the glam bands music, I did not say anything about their "image".
Alex11710 1 year ago
@Alex11710 you're right, i've been re-reading your comments and you didn't say some the things ive been talking about. SORRY. But i still disagree We're Not Gonna Take It, I Wanna Rock, Etc are Metal songs. Also, Long hair, Manly or not depends on who u ask. Try to get certain jobs with long hair. besides i agree glam bands looked stupid. Also I'M NOT TRYIN 2 INSULT U when i say that...it just sounds to me like ur excusing long hair cuz most thrash bands also had it too. Just without spray.

Flipper79able 1 year ago
@Flipper79able u miss the point it seems...they wanted to make the most
sexually offensive songs they could, why else would they debut with a song like Animal (Fuck like a beast). "7th grade rock" sure possibly, it all depends on how you look at it i guess. But it was still great headbanging, heavy metal music at it's raunchiest.
MetalRockNPop 1 year ago
@MetalRockNPop Believe me, I didn't miss the point. It would be impossible for anyone over the age of 15 to miss the point. I like songs about sex but I think their songs have a serious lack of imagination. Like I said..... it's okay when your 15, but after awhile, its nice to hear a song about something new to stimulate your imagination.
Flipper79able 1 year ago
@Flipper79able true, it did get old after the first few albums. But even they realized that, haven't ya noticed from headless children (1989) and beyond, Rarely a sex song on the entire album. Blackie himself got sick of the overly sexual lyrics too. As for me i like last command & electric circus albums but i also like wasps more recent albums too. As i said, and most fans already know. They "grew Up" & wrote about other things from 1989 on. It Just seems funny some people never mention that??

@zer0dahero yea i kno i took art appreaciation, music appreciation and all that, but im talking about modern day guitars not a string bound together by sticks "their heritage can be traced back even farther". im sure its traced back to africa as well even further we are very musical people and said to be some of the first people on earth regardless of what "white america" (not bashing you either obviously or i wouldnt be watching this documentary about these great musicians) teaches us.
paulandj 1 year ago
@paulandj Its always disappointing when people interject some form of racism. Using terms like "niggers" or "white america" as you have done. One can never be sure of the intent or honesty of poeople who do that. Its as if what ever they say afterwards is of no value.

blacks did NOT invent the guitar. a crude form of it was invented by an italian thousands of years ago and similar things were created by celts and north germanics.
north africa isn't even a traditionally black area. it originally had berbers and fair skinned peoples(before arabs).
sub saharan africa is where the black africans come from.
and las time i checked, leo fender and less paul were the first to help make the hollow and solid body guitars. two white men.

slash is 1/4 semetic + 3/4 european, chris just talked some shit when he was drunk + its funny. he said similar shit to randy rhoads.
slash faded into nothing after axl dumped his ass. axl was gnr anyway. chris plays today in all star bands..
chris w a better lead singer + mainstream promotion(a lot of jews at the major labels didn't like the name wasp) wasp would have been huge.
but there's no doubt chris is a better guitar player than slash. slash just copied steve jones, + rikk agnew.

this is why THRASH IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SUB GENRE OF METAL OF THE 80's and 90's not GLAM/HAIR look at slipknot, disturbed, godsmack, linkin park, korn ect do any of them talk about being big poison or motley crew fans growing up i havent heard any of them say that now as for metallica, slayer pantera ect thats a big yes
