@MomoTheBellyDancer What's all this talk about Killing Joke? Those posers didn't have one percent of the raw talent manifested in The Damned. /watch?v=Z4J2aU6glt0 There ya go. :3
The eighties weren't perfect, love him or hate him we had Reagan. People were more tolerant then and understood free speech towards anyone. We lived in constant fear of nukes pointed at us, but you know what, we had community, good music, and good video games and other things we enjoyed then. Not everything was at you're fingertips, but you appeciated it even more when you got it. Things were simple then.
Before we and our children become fully enslaved, it's important that this 'riff' -question is finally settled. We don't want to go like a bunch of quarrelling mugs - we each have our dignity and opinions, SO : who twanged it first : Geordie, years ago.?.. or Tragic Cobain.?. lot's of, but less.. years ago. DOES IT REALLY MATTER ? Watch 'Inside Job' by Charles Ferguson.
The 60's brought rock to fore, the seventies brought classics into being, the Eighties fought superficiality to be significant, the 90's went against all the eighties made, the 2000's have yet to find an identity. I think for every insignificant band produced by the eighties, there were 2 who were good enough to survive. The Ramones, The Police, Squeeze, English Beat, The Specials, The Cult, U2, The Cure, Joy Division, New Order, REM, The Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, Echo and the Bunnymen, ect,
@dukenukem1990 You are right about the 70's being the time that they formed. But I also remember these bands doing the bulk of their good work in the early eighties. 80,81,82,83

kurt took a good riff from an average song and made it into an awesome, memorable song, this song would have got half the views if it wasnt for nirvana, so suck it up people!
@bluejay55118 From Wikipedia: "Killing Joke also sued Nirvana during this phase, alleging that the riff for the latter's song "Come as You Are" was copied from the riff for their song "Eighties. The lawsuit was dropped after the sudden death of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain." Who needs research?
@bluejay55118 Ok man, but tell us, why are you so sure about it? I mean, yeah, wikipedia has a lot of mistakes,I suppose, but is a source and say that. You say that they are wrong, ok. What is your source? Thanks.

@YouGotWoodRolled Overrated is not a legitimate evaluative term to describe music. So they would be underrated if they were less popular? Would that make them good then? You act like overrated means they didn't damn near changed the music scene as much as the Beatles.
@iangarnettify I can make the case that Nirvana weren't really that influential, musically-speaking. They became a cult of personality but without any artistic importance. They did spawn some wannabe grunge bands but none of them ended up being any good. The indie bands of the 80's (on labels such as Touch and Go, Merge, AmRep) have done way more to influence the current pool of rock musicians. The Beatles are still cited everyday by musicians as a direct influence. Nirvana? Not so much.
@YouGotWoodRolled There are a good number of bands directly influenced by Nirvana. The only one I can think of was the vines, but Nirvana took the eighties style of rock and transformed it into something completely new, making it much harder. Nevermind itself was one of the biggest forces that destroyed hair metal, and brought the definition of hard and loud to a whole new level
@YouGotWoodRolled artistically nirvana influnced or inspired a lot of people. old and new. and not just crap, but good bands too. queens of the stonage, arcade fire, fleet foxes, yeah yeah yeahs, and neil young to name a few. nirvana having no artistic importance is just stupid.
@roejogan8 FALSE. Ask Josh Homme what his Top 20 musical influences are and Niravana is nowhere to be found. Arcade Fire has never been MUSICIALLY influenced by Nirvana..they just said that they liked them when they were growing up...not the same as a MUSICAL INFLUENCE. Fleet Foxes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Neil Young??? Seriously, these are only people who praised Nirvana as a band. Not the same as INFLUENCE. The only bands who were MUSICALLY INFLUENCED...the vines and puddle of mudd.
@YouGotWoodRolled or INSPIRED. you don't have to sound exactly like an artist. nirvana were into plenty of bands they didn't sound exacty like. all great artists have have their own thing going on to some degree. and no it's not false. josh has said plenty about how great nirvana is. arcade fire still love nirvana. it wasn't just while they were growing up.
@skateboarding4114 Why would some people come up with a sweeping statement saying that Killing Joke rip off Nirvana if this song came out in 1984/1985?
@TheWickerMan1971 So if that would be the case, how could SOAD, Godsmack etc would have been born without them? Whatever you say, they are still the fathers of Modern Industrial Metal Rock.
wow. saw this video only once back in the 80s. but never forgot it all these years. so powerful. glad to find it again. wish videos/music were more like this today
First of all, yes Come As You Are sounds a lot like this, but it's not because Nirvana ripped it off. Kurt was a fan of Killing Joke and was somewhat inspired. @MizzCrazieMindfreak Actually if Kurt was a "big fan" then surely it would make it much more likely that he'd realise that such "inspiration" had happened? some random track from the radio having such an effect I can understand but if its something you know well you'd recongise what had happened.
@MizzCrazieMindfreak LOL 'You know when you listen to your favourite songs and then start writing your own music and it ironically sounds like the band you were listening to?...' that's called ripping off other people's music... Killing Joke ripped it off The Damned anyway...
@MizzCrazieMindfreak Thanks for clearing that up for me man. I was really worried about how it sounded so alike to each other. Im glad you do your research friend =)
I had this Song ringing in my Brain for months now, until I Finally recalled it all the way back to the fuckin Eighties when i First heard It. back in the days it was hard to get a copy, cause there was no singles around or mostly no money on my teen budget

@PSPISOGAME I'm so angry that Rodgers and Hammerstein stole a 1982 Captain Sensible song in 1949. How dare they use time travel in such a dishonest fashion!
@TruculentSheep First of all,Nirvana realeased Come As You Are in 1991,and Nirvana didn't rip off nobady,if we take as that,I could say that this band Killing Joke ripped off The Damned.I love all 3 songs, and I don't have a problem with Killing Joke, only with the hardcore fans and Nirvana haters, and at the end of all,I should tell you that you suck ass!
@TruculentSheep Kurt,Krist,Dave they were all friends with the Melvins, they had connections, give one exemple of a song that Nirvana ripped of from The Melvins
@TruculentSheep FYI, before you make a statement. Killing Joke was formed in 1978/1979. This song was released in 1984/1985. How could Killing Joke ripoff Nirvana? Before making such a statement, make a thorough research.
@TruculentSheep I know that Nevermind came out in 1991, so why would Killing Joke rip off Nirvana's come as you are if this song came out in 1984/1985? You tell me?
They dont know this band. Also some problably think "nirvana is so fucking good, so this means that this band ripped off killing joke, because they wouldnt need to rip off another band".
@NichtMehrClaire I know that Nevermind came out in 1991, so why would Killing Joke rip off Nirvana's come as you are if this song came out in 1984/1985? You tell me?

I'm so angry that the Killing Joke stole a 1992 Nirvana riff in 1985. How dare they use time travel in such a dishonest fashion!

@TruculentSheep I'm so angry that The Damned stole a 1984 Killing Joke riff in 1982. How dare they use time travel in such a dishonest fashion!

@PSPISOGAME I'm so angry that Rodgers and Hammerstein stole a 1982 Captain Sensible song in 1949. How dare they use time travel in such a dishonest fashion!

@TruculentSheep First of all,Nirvana realeased Come As You Are in 1991,and Nirvana didn't rip off nobady,if we take as that,I could say that this band Killing Joke ripped off The Damned.I love all 3 songs, and I don't have a problem with Killing Joke, only with the hardcore fans and Nirvana haters, and at the end of all,I should tell you that you suck ass!
zveena 2 months ago
@zveena Oh, and Nirvana ripped off the Melvins too.
TruculentSheep 2 months ago
@TruculentSheep Kurt,Krist,Dave they were all friends with the Melvins, they had connections, give one exemple of a song that Nirvana ripped of from The Melvins
zveena 2 months ago
@zveena Most of them? Arguably, the 'alt rock revolution' began with the Melvins, not to mention an obscure outfit called The Pixies...
TruculentSheep 2 months ago
@TruculentSheep ok then, what's your problem with Nirvana?
zveena 2 months ago
@zveena Who said I had a problem with them? I was just pointing out that they rather shamelessly nicked a Killing Joke riff.
TruculentSheep 2 months ago
@zveena I don't. Just pointing out something often overlooked or ignored.

@zveena Wow, one of the great mass debaters of his time...

@TruculentSheep Lol, if ever Nirvana stole off a riff from a 1985 song from Killing Joke.

I really hope you're under 18. That way there's a chance you can grow out of that pretentious attitude.

@TruculentSheep FYI, before you make a statement. Killing Joke was formed in 1978/1979. This song was released in 1984/1985. How could Killing Joke ripoff Nirvana? Before making such a statement, make a thorough research.

@Supersweetguy You do know that 'Nevermind' came out in 1991?
TruculentSheep 1 month ago
@TruculentSheep I know that Nevermind came out in 1991, so why would Killing Joke rip off Nirvana's come as you are if this song came out in 1984/1985? You tell me?
Supersweetguy 1 month ago
@Supersweetguy Time travel. Technically speaking, Dave Grohl is his own grandmother.

@Supersweetguy
They dont know this band. Also some problably think "nirvana is so fucking good, so this means that this band ripped off killing joke, because they wouldnt need to rip off another band".

@Supersweetguy Re-read @TruculentSheep 's comment. Forget research, I think you need to read things through before you jump to a conclusion... :D

It'd be easier to kill a lion with your bare hands, than to get on this video and not see Nirvana being mentioned in the comments.
