Ask NASA if you can send a high quality HD camera to view the upper atmosphere, ALSO ask them if you can receive the signals directly from your experiment with your own antennas and equipment. Also, ask them what are these things: (they are way faster than the shuttle)
/watch?v=T52TIUA5adw
/watch?v=N1YMPT1mdaU
Why do they follow the shuttle, why are they self luminous, how can they make 90 degree turns, how can they accelerate to 100,000 mph almost instantaneously?
I have found it to be a great hobby. If you were to get back into model rockets, I would suggest to get a RTF Estes kit that includes everything you need. I would suggest getting the SR71 Estes RTF+Launch Set Pack which can be found at your local hobbystore.
This is my first Scratch Built Model Rocket. Black Thunder uses (1) C6-3, and (2) A10-PT's. It gets to about 600feet. As you can tell, the video has been slowed down on its takeoff. I did this, so you can witness all 3 Engines going at once. I will upload a full version of the whole launch later.
