This song has been on my brain ever since I spent a semester at the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1973. I searched but was unable to find it here in the US back in the day. It reminds me of the incredibile mix of excitement & determination about African liberation & a kind of self-confident cultural pride that allowed for an equal openness to other cultures I experienced in Ghana. African music, literature, film were a revelation for me then & changed my life. Thank you!
This Summer in London, my freind got a free ticket to see Osibisa at Ronnie Scotts which included a backstage pass to meet to the band and the road crew. She's loved them and so do I!

Thanks for posting. After some 30 years, this song just popped into my head. Its brilliance and heartfelt melodies still resound. This combination of Africa and the Caribbean is still superb. Bless up Osibisa.
This song brought me to tears on more than one occasion! Even now, over thirty years later, it still moves me. The voices, the harmones, the flute... something magical happens. But, as this live version shows, there's humour to balace it as well.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel did a real crap version a year or so after the original, without much acknowledgement to it's source.
for some reason I woke up yesterday with this lovely song in my head, and I hadn't even heard it for years! I was priviliged to see Osibisa live about 5 times in the late 70's and early 80's-wonderful, wonderful nights out.
LoL .. defo NOT too young - I remember this lot from my school disco days (St Tommies), as well as the mecca on a freeda neet HaHa...
Didn't see them at the empire but did see them a couple of years dahn sarf - live in London now. Actually can't remember where I saw them but I know that me & the lasses had a great night out with a set that was over 2 hours. Took me days for my dancing knees to recover!
Thank you so much for posting this it brings back great memories of sailing to the West Indies in the seventies and listening to this when missing home and feeling down (it didn't help but it was great listening). Great post thank you.
my aunt taught my cousins & I this beautiful mellow song back in my youth...whilst driving around in the winding roads of the lovely Inyangani Mountains in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe...good times.

This is soft and tender but yet very powerful music i remember this song was soundtrack to some Akan drama shows. Oh my goodness how much i love my country Ghana. Simply beautiful, authentic african music.
1972 memoir. Lay back and relax with these sounds on the headphones. In November 1977 I met one of the band "Sol" at King Cross in Sydney. Three girls I'd just met managed to find him after a show. We all went out on the town for some fun.I re-met the same girls later by chance. Neat chicks. The lovely blonde was later attacked by a pit bull (dog) and had her face mauled! That's life.

They used to have a huge spliff before coming on stage ...and then walk through the audience in their African robes ...this is their best uplifting spiritual....OH YES...
Our friend who posted this version has really done us a great deed. I will always remember not only the song, but the uploader as well. You made my day - THANK YOU.
The rhythm of this is fascinating... the vocals are in 6/8 counted in 2, while the accompaniment is 12/8 counted in 4... so it feels like triplets over 4.
This is a very good time to listen to this song and work together... Change is coming, we all want what's best, Obama elected, elections are coming to Ghana in December, more changes are coming to work together hopefully!!!! May the good people live a long life and may the bad vanish and come and join the good side!
