Very interesting..My dad wouldve heard this epic goal called this way 40 yrs ago as he was out in the boonies with no TV. In fact it wasnt until the 72 series DVD set came out that he saw the TV footage of it FOR THE FIRST TIME (no lie) with Hewitt on the mic. That was in the early 2000s. Hewitt blazed the trail, and Cole was our generation's 'Foster'. Cole's call of the failed shootout attempt against the Czechs in the 98 Olympics still haunts me. Either version of the call is spine-tingling
This was the call I heard that memorable day. The CBC radio broadcast was piped into every classroom in my elementary school. I didn't hear Foster Hewitt's call until I saw the TV replay later that night.
Hewitt and Cole are both legends. It is really interesting to compare both calls and they are quite similar. I had the video running in my head while listening. Thanks for posting.
@hkygy They were in the same broadcast booth, when Henderson scored, but were far away enough to call it their own way. That arena didn't have a broadcast booth, the Soviets had to build one for the Cdn broadcastors before Team Canada arrived to play in Moscow.
Bob Cole calling the '72 highlight on CBC. That's 100 proof Canadiana there , folks.
