  • I'm glad they closed the military base in the town where I grew up. I remember going to see Dan Quayle and the Blue Angels and thinking, "Wow. That whole display probably cost $30 million dollars. And we have kids in West Virginia w/out textbooks."

  • I grew up in the 80s like a lot of you did with Republicans in office and constant buttrock on the radio. I'll take this any day over David Lee Roth, Huey Lewie and the News and Rock You Like a Hurricane. Those other songs make me want to join the Navy and become a Blue Angel and blow up M-80s while drunk and other dumb shit. This song makes me want to cook a meal after smoking a joint or make love to my woman.

  • 4 people didn't get any help with their suitcases...

  • Damn!! These guys are spot on!!! Perfect!! ahhhh I so miss the days of musical talent..the ability sing...the ability to play your OWN instruments... to be able to write your OWN songs...looks having very little to do with what you heard on the radio....

  • I absolutely adored your whale song too! I miss you guys come to CA!

  • love all Crosby, Stills,& Nash & Young

  • Doyou have the RESTof this concert on video? its NOT on DVD!

  • what harmony....this is 1 of those songs that you never forget.cs&n rocks.

  • I went to his show yesterday at the mandalay bay in vegas

  • Graham Nash is simply the one of the finest and most prolific songwriters England has ever produced in this or any era. The song was not a taunt to Stills but written in order to settle a bet someone made to him.

  • it tears me up inside...I miss him so much...he just doesnt know......Im so alone without him.....a loneliness that only he can fill......Shawn, my love....Charli ♥

  • graham nash wrote this song on a napkin in the airport in like two minutes as a taunt to stephen stills saying he was a better songwriter than he was. i vote for graham

  • To SaintSylvia this performance is from their 1977 tour in support of their album (CSN) of the same year.

  • 素晴らしいってレベルじゃねーぞ。

  • great music.these guys sound so good together, this is my favorite csn song.thnx

  • Pure Americana gold

  • ~~~ I helped you with your suitcase, i stand before your eyes..driving to the airport,..into the friendly skies..going thru security,,,you held me for so long.....I .FINALLY LOOKED AT YOU IN LOVE...AND i WAS GONE....♥ I Love You,Shawn....♥

  • dit is mijn favorite off alltimes ..

  • Thank you cel1005. This group is phenomenal and their songs are timeless classics. Top of my list.

  • CSN absolutely, positively rock. Man, I love that Nash.....

  • Far out man.

  • GREAT !...

  • Is it just me, or is there a bad fit between a sport coat and a Gibson Thunderbird?

  • Crosby was in sad state here or begininng to be

  • wish they had a love it button....

  • beautiful harmony and the song as the mot resigned fate of sadness about it

  • My fav CSN song. What awesome vocals. Only a couple bands have vocals that gel...Mamas and Papas, and the Eagles, along with America.

  • @dannyd1572 Yes you are very correct. White, Black no difference. These cats have THE best harmony to of any band.

  • @dannyd1572 ...and the beatles and the beach boys. :)

  • @Ricardodelamuerte Beach Boys..not my style but yes, very good harmonies..the Beatles,I wouldn't really consider them having great harmonies together. Thats kind of like saying the Stones have great harmonies. Their voices work well on the songs but not good harmonies. Funny enough a band that never got credit for harmonies is REO Speedwagon. Have a listen to Take It On The Run, or Keep On Loving You, or Time For Me To Fly.

  • @dannyd1572 i dont see the stones reference... are there even any vox from the other members?? hmm..

if you dont say the beatles harmonize, then you havent heard many of their songs...

  • @Ricardodelamuerte I'm a huge stones fan..but they along with the Beatles..and yes I'm a Beatles, just do not have the harmonies like Mammas and Papas, or CSNY or the Eagles..or even Fleetwood Mac, America, Jefferson Airplane, and yes the Bee Gees. Yes, even the Gibb Brothers. Those groups have members that can harmonize with other people. Lennon and Mcartney never really harmonized with anyone else proffesionally other than themselves. Their voices worked good together.

  • @dannyd1572

You're not really saying that REO Speedwagon had better harmonies than the Beatles are you? What an absurd thing to write. The Beatles brought harmonies into pop/rock and roll - and made it mainstream. Before them, groups weren't doing two or three part harmonies. Don't believe me? Do some research of your own...Listen to "Because." Not just 3 part, but overdubbed in the studio to make a total of 9 (thats right-9) voicings - incredible.

  • @dproce I don't believe in overdubbing and overdubbing to get your harmonies. CSNY or CSN didn't have to. Neither did America or the Eagles, or Bee Gees. Those are bands that sounded like that live. The Beatles never were a naturally harmonizing group. The Beatles had voices that complimented each other. In my opinion only.

  • @dannyd1572 Overdubbing WAS practiced by all of the groups you mentioned. It was and continues to be a common engineering technique to make vocals sound fuller on recordings. I am a practicing musician, and have had years of studio experience. i can tell you with certainty, that all groups overdub vocals. The song I mentioned was just one example. If you listen to any Beatles song, what they were doing IS harmony -by the strictest definition.

  • @dproce I too am familiar with "overdubbing." I'm saying basically that the good groups can harmonize in concert without overdubbing. If you listen to a lot of the good harmony groups in concert or on tape, you can pick out each member of 'say" the Eagles, or all three Mammas and Pappas.

  • @dannyd1572 There were four Mamas and Papas (two of each).

  • @dproce What?! Before the Beatles, there were no 2 part harmonies in rock? Ummm....the Everly Brothers?

  • @Dukegrievousangel Er... Graham Nash and Alllan Clarke in the Hollies....?

  • This is my favorite C,S.N song of all time. It has great harmonies and a message to be careful;)

  • One of the best CSN's song ever. It's amazing how Graham wrote that song. He was in a hurry to catch a plane and a friend of his bet him that he couldn't write a song in such short time. And of course he was wrong.. it took Graham 15 min to write this song!

  • what a beauty!♥♥

  • Isn't it just amazing how some voices were just made to go together>>>hence--CSN

  • dumb..too perfect..fuctd

  • 'i had to be alone'

i lose my shit at that lyric everytime

  • Good call- Graham Nash makes me lose my shit period

  • Great Video...Caught the Moment!!!!!!

  • Saw these guys play this in Iowa City live in about '85, when Crosby was dealing with so many troubling things in his life. They played a magnificent Blackbird...

  • Perfect........like angels singing. Sure as Hell don't make music like this anymore.

  • Excellent version!

  • What year was this concert ?

  • I would hazard a guess of about 1977 when the album "CSN" was just released.

  • Graham is singing about Joni Mitchell,,,I would to,she is great,he was dating her then

  • @vaughnsalem Graham was going to marry his beloved Susan in the year this song was written. A lady worth forgetting Ms. Mitchell for; they love each other very much to this day.

  • GREAT!!!

  • Did anyone notice that Crosby is playing an acoustic throughout most of the performance and then at the very end, he has an electric? Nash started with a Les Paul and ended with what looks like a Fender strat or telecaster! Interesting video!

  • That's true!

Crosby really did have an acoustic the whole time and in the last shot miraculously has an electric.

  • He can switch so fast because he's trvelling twice the speed of sound. :o)

  • Laffin' & Crying...

  • Sehr geil ! Oh man ist das lang her als ichs das letztemal hörte .... ich mochte es wie verrückt ... einer meiner TopHits ! Ohh man was bin ich alt geworden....

  • Gute Musik kennt keine Grenzen, des Alters noch keine Zeit .... Sie sind nicht alt, aber Sie haben sehr gute Geschmack in der Musik!

Good Music, Good Times & Good Luck!

    Seien Sie gut,

    fudds

  • Cheers Graham: As a 22 yr old(then) I thought that well he's done it- blended the old c.s.n.(deja-vu) with today's(late 70's) sensability....even had the requisite still's solo.....well done chap

  • I agree this song IS great and is CSN(Y)'s highest chart topper (#7).

But Graham is at least 35 years old here.

He was born in 1942- and was 31 years old in 1973 when he released Wild Tales.

He is 67 today and only surpassed in age by Crosby who is 68.

  • It's awesome how Nash looks into the camera when he says 'I had to be alone'

  • @foureverstoopid Nash is awesome -- period. The end.

  • Great song, I had forgotten about it over the years. CSN are terrific!

  • my favorite CSN song

this to me is the "steely dan song" of the Crosby Stills Nash repertoire

  • Yes indeed- must be the electric sitar there!!!! The best of the hollies, harmony, and everything I loved on soft 70's radio!

  • Ya the music these guys put out is so sweet... this song is for Sta Mornings at Pensacola Beach sitting with a marg.

  • *Sat.

  • :) love it so much..

  • Ah, this song never fails. One of my favorites in the whole CSN catalogue.

  • I heard the story behind this song was as follows: Graham Nash was on his way to the airport and the limo driver challenged him to write a song before they got there, the rest as they say is history!!! Good job, Graham.

  • ive heard the same

  • bom demais cara, is very nicy man

  • Wow very nice! This is such a great song.. peace!!

  • hE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL HERE AND AGAIN ILL SAY IT HE IS THIS GROUPS! HEART AND ALL THE BEAUTIFUL UNDERTONAL MUSICAL INPUT COMES FROM STEPHEN NO ONE ELSE!

  • great. . nostalgic. .

  • I love this song, probably my favorite from CSN, thank you for the post! Great sound quality. What years is it?

  • You're welcome :-) this video was from their DVD titled Long Time Comin' which was originally recorded in 1990. The song however, first appeared on their 1977 album titled CSN.

  • @cel1005 I could be wrong, but this looks like it was recorded earlier than 1990...

  • @cel1005 The video might have been released in 1990 but this clip is definitively not from that time. I think it is from the end of the 70's

  • One of the simplest and most beautiful songs C,S and N ever made.!!!

    I love it.
