I cannot seem to download pdf files from journal databases such as ECOHost? i need these for my university studies. when i click on the link for the pdf full version, it doesnt start download, rather tries to open it within the webpage itself which wont work?
it is possible to download pdf files on ipad . you have to download ibooks , then go on any web site that offers pdf downloads, click it... it will probably open in the browser. after that open it in ibooks . thats how you save it. its actually easier than android. personal experiance i have ipod touch 4g and i saved my chemistry text book on my ipod.
@rockdude094 You are correct, and I responded to this in an previous response. It's possible, to do on the iDevices (which I own) but the Android downloads the PDF into a folder of my choosing and you have more flexibility as to what to do with the file. It all comes down to personal preference, or needs. My past job required me to deal with certain websites and PDF's that were causing the iPad issues, so this video was directed at the fact of how nice it is to deal with a bit more flexibility.
@tofucyborg I agree there are some great apps for the iPad, but native mobile safari doesn't not handle PDF's as seamlessly as what Honeycomb feels like. I own/have owned both devices and I give Android the bonus of dealing with PDF's like a desktop machine. Simply saving the PDF's to a file folder or directly to a storage card is very, very handy. Yes, iOS can save PDF's but it's a very different experience. I prefer iOS for many things, but PDF's is not one of them.
I am having trouble downloading .pdf's that are behind a password protected website with the standard browser that came with the OS. I get "download unsuccessful" but this only started happening with android 3.2 update.
Hi, I would like to know if I wanna fully charge the transformer, do I have to charge the pad and keyboard separately or 1 by 1??... And is there any other way to charge my eee pad??... By using the USB I don't think it work... Ppls were saying it work but charged for 6% after 2hours, mine I tried 6 hours but nothing happen... I hope to hear from ur reply soon... Appreciate it...
i have a serious question (im not here to diss any tablets they are all awsome) i want to know if the toshiba thrive would be good for doing essays and writing notes and things like that for school? plz respond and ty so much :)
@AshleyTaios If the PDF is not locked, then yes, the Adobe free app has some limited editing tools. I did not purchase any of the more advanced editing apps so I can't say how well those would work.
@86Ivar I loaded it up with several 40mb+ PDF's and while it took a few to flush out and load images and pages, once loaded it seemed to scroll nice and smooth and have no issues. I don't know that it has a max, so can't answer that question. Overall I was very happy with it's performance dealing with PDFs.
Hi, Nice video. I am also looking for a tablet which can let me view pdfs, I have two questions -
1) I saw u r using a stylus. Why not your finger ? Doesnt the transformer work with finger touch ?
2) How smoothly u can zoom in and out of the pdf with multi touch ie moving the two fingers away from each other to zoom in and closer to each other to zoom out.....i looked at motorola zoom and acer iconia and ipad and the best seems to be ipad....
I don't care if the reader lags a bit, you just posted exactly what I wanted to see, even the books I have. I'm already a server admin so I'm not reading any of those books but I'm currently reading 643/662 so this video fits my needs nicely.
Now the question is 16GB or 32GB...
Btw, thumbs up for a useful video, thank you for your time.
Hi there! Could you make a DIN A4 PDF reading review in Portrait Mode? Looking for something like this all over the net but cant find anything. thanks sofar
@Church0123 Yeah, I'd like to see a pdf (from an academic journal, e.g.) displayed in portrait mode. Would also be nice to see things like pinch zooming if they work. Would also like to see (!!) the other pdf viewers in action!
@bossxii Thanks for the info. I have one of these on order at B&H. I probably won't see it until early June. In the mean time, can you tell me if you are able to use internal (not internet) hyperlinks in PDF's? I have very large PDF documents that make extensive use of internal hyperlinks for navigation. I have a Kindle DX, and while it can read PDF's, it cannot recognize the internal hyperlinks. I am hoping the Transformer's PDF reader(s) can
Also I am able to load in things such as the Amazon app store, or load an app directly from a devs site. I am not Locke into Apples app store for apps. Dowloading an. apk file, opening the file manager and installing a file. I will fall out of my chair the day SJ allows that kind of flexibility and freedom.
@awpeic I also have the freedom to install things like the Amazon app store, whick is an. apk file basically the equal to a Windows. exe or Mac. dmg file. Old luck downloading or using hat on a non JB I pad. Let me know when you able to side load apps, I've. seen that with iOS without jailbreaking the device. Honeycomb an do hat stock out of the box.
@awpric PDF yes, since when can you download a video from a website without going out into a specific app? That is the point of the video, I don't have to have any app installed, There are plenty of work around s in iOS but HC offers a more laptop/desktop experience. I don't need to pay for another browser, Good reader etc... its built in. Not relying on apps to do what I can do on my desktop is the point of the video. Enjoy your I pad.
you can download every type of file directly from the iPad
PDFs via safari will open directly with the option to save it in iBooks
or if you'll you an app like iCab (from the app store) you can download any file (type and size) you want and open it with the right app (OPlayer for DIVx, GoodReader/iBooks for PDF/ePub, etc...)
please stop advertising wrong information, just google it !
It's been a really nice change getting away from a full blown laptop as well as a change from the iPad which I could never do these types of simple downloads when I needed information. I've found several epub book sites that I can now download books directly to my tablet wihout dealing with syncing to a PC/Mac. Very nice when I'm on the go or stuck somewhere and want to download a book to read.
Thanks for posting this! I've been looking everywhere to see the Honeycomb browsers downloading ability. Looks like it can do everything I use a netbook for. My next gadget purchase for sure :)
i have a question will this work with the sony tablet s?
clinky1234 1 month ago
@clinky1234 Should work fine, Android allows this feature as long as Sony hasn't taken away from basic Android functions.

What stylus is that? It doesn't seem like you have to tap very hard. I can't find a good stylus for my Transformer.

Hi, Thanx for the video. I am interested in the PDFs as well. Can you tell me if
1. There is a search feature to locate key words and go that page? With highlighted words for the search key words?
2. Can you bookmark pages?
3. Can you highlight text and have it saved for next time?
4. Finally, can you write notes on the PDFs?
Thank for taking the time to answer these. :)

Completely false that you can't use it on an iPad. I don't really subscribe to Apple, but iPad 2 has some great PDF reading tools.

How does it perform when multiple pdf files are opened?
What is the maximum pdf file size? will it ie do a pdf catalog of 150mb?
