cfls really contain rare earths? if you mean mercury that is a common material, if you have had dental fillings these contain mercury. Coak fired power stations emit significant amounts if mercury (and will emit 5 times as much for an old style incandesant bulb). ok you are all over the place. as far as cfls go, it really is a no brainer. cfls are the future of lighting. coal plants burn much less fossils as a result of less strain on the energy grid. ect. cfls are now cheaper than incand. bulbs. when market failure happens with a product government has to step in a regulate. thank god that government is ending the life of the old dirty bulb, this will slow global warming.
