This is very memorable. I don't think I'll be able to forget it for a while. I wish there was more HOPE. I know this kind of thing happens in real life sometimes and you can't put a happy face on a sad story like this. Even if you did something like include a link to a good charity that tries to rescue kids from abusive households, I think that'd help me feel better about this. This could be used as a commercial by an anti-child-abuse organization. You should try to find one who'll use it.

The mom wants her son all to herself, so she broke his arm and locked him away so he wouldn't escape. To make sure he was "protected" enough, the mom put the doll outside to lure him. It turns out he wasn't "protected" enough, so she cut off his arms and legs and locked him away in a dark, windowless room. She put the doll there so he wouldn't have to escape for a friend.

This is what I got from the film.

The mother is overbearing/ borderline psychotic over her child. The broken hand was the mothers doing, 00.43, the sad face. The child ONLY acts loyal to his mother, when she’s there. She places a trap i.e. the girl & waits to see how far he would go to reach her to test if he’s loyal towards her. So he risks climbing down from the top floor with a broken hand. Mother flips out and makes it impossible for him to move thus being under her supervision indefinitely.
