It has some heavy irish influences- on Appalachia Waltz (with Mark O'Connor), there's a song called "Star of the Country Down", which is an Irish song (Star of the COUNTY Down), but I guess in America they didn't know about County Down or forgot about it, so the song name changed, although Country Down never made sense to me. ;)

Actually, bluegrass did derive from Irish music. There are a lot of similarities. I do prefer Irish over bluegrass though.
