This map is shocking but doesn't show the current trend - that we have been creating jobs rather than losing them since the beginning of 2010. Unemployment hasn't gone down because more people are entering the work force. Also folks who had intended to retire [and create new job openings] have been forced to contiinue working due to huge losses to their retirement accounts in the stock market while Bush was President.

Interesting. The middle of the country from Texas to the Canada border, the D.C. area, and parts of northern New England seem to be insulated.

Also disturbing similarities with the unemployment rate at the beginning and the % of minorities in those counties - areas along the MS river, deep south, the Mexcian border. If you superimposed a demographic map, the majority-minority counties would look very similar. This graphic shows that unemployment bled out from already suffering areas.
