Hmm...that didn't seem to be serious, or is it supposed to be? Because she was definitely better in the film and was singing correctly, and here she's just using her chest voice (instead of her head voice like she's supposed to). I'm not criticizing, just saying that this isn't exactly what I'm used to hearing from her.
Emmy sounds so good here! I thought she did good in the movie, but I think if they had waited a little while longer for her voice to mature, she would've sounded even better!
NO SHE DID NOT REALLY BREAK BONNIES GLASSES! you can literally see her change them at 0:04 seconds, and she obviously wouldnt react so calm if she DID break them. and that obviously was not a glass break you heard lol.
like seriously, are you really THAT stupid? no offence.

@TheLightningmikester I was telling the people that thought it was real, the people that thought she LITERALLY broke her glasses. Try reading the comments. People are retarded.
Emmy, has a beautiful voice, I've always thought that about her. She can sing really high and I think she did break Bonnie's glasses because I heard Glass break at 21 seconds.
I honestly don't know what to think on this. While it's possible, I'm in choir, I'm a soprano, and I sing with a forward pitch as well, the way she does, putting the pitch the front of my voice so it's got a sharper ring to is, and I've never broken glass, even when I sing much higher than her.
she didn't actually break the glass. if you look in the right corner while she's singing, you can see bonnie take off her glasses, and put a different pair on
jesus f-ing christ... mad mad MAD skills! Like, I know for all of you out there who can sing, it just comes naturally to you (yeah sure you may have had training, but still you either have it or you don't), and it may not seem like that big a deal to you, but try to understand that for us who don't have it, there is a reason why our jaws are on the floor and we have dumbfounded looks on our mugs. Emmy, damn girl! That was AMAZZZZZZING! I grovel at your feet. I am not worthy.
I don't know very much about music. Can someone please tell me her octave range and what is the highest note she hits? How does Emmy's voice compare to the late Minnie Riperton?
If you listen carefully, between 0:19 and 0:20, you will hear glass break.
The stems of Bonnie Hunt's glasses (prior to and after taking them off) appear to be the same. I'm not sure this was pre-planned. I have an untrained ear, but it appears the high note did break glass.
I would estimate Emmy has about a 3.5 octave range. The highest note she has recorded was at the end of the title song POTO. She was vocalizing then hits an E flat. As for you're last question, that depends. It's a fact Emmy's range on the scale pales in comparison not only Minnie Riperton. But many other tremendous singers from both past & present. I can name some if you want. But Emmy is very talented in her own right. Listen to her sing Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again. She's wonderful.

I know cause if u read carefully what the director said in the interview!
and besides they suck! if u think they r the best well is your opinion but many ppl were extremely dissappointed with this film...I didn´t like her at all and Butler well he´s sings like my dog. I saw the sapinsh verison which is doubled and is better how the spanish ppl sang than they
Secondly pulling the "Let's hear you sing" line isn't an argument. There are many critics in this world who can't sing for their lives but understand what good technique is. As for your comment on wasting the day on typing non-positive comments is very hypicritical. If I'm a fan of someone but may not like what I see (as long as it's reasonable) it's far more respectable then bashing those who do offer constructive critisism. As for listening to good singing I will gladly state names if you want
As a matter of fact, some of the critics here have claimed that they CAN do better, and this is their justification for criticizing the singer. So why can't we them ask to hear their superior version? Indeed, asking to hear a superior version IS an argument, because it asks the critic to provide evidence of the claims made. People can hate Emmy Rossum if they choose, but if they're going to make a critique they need to back up their comments. That's what "argument" is all about.
Okay people, this is getting out of hand! First of all nobody has bashed her talent. But people are entitled to offer critisisim if something appears to be rubbing them the wrong way. Yes I understand Bonnie asked her to sing the credenza. But she did not ask for her to behave like a diva when she she hit the high note. (Which was strained) As I mentioned before I do think Emmy is talented but she is hardly the greatest singer ever. Since her voice is still developing she still has some work.
and the third one was Phantom..he ruined it..but hey it´s just an opinion...if u r SOOO FAN of this girl well is your desicion but she´s not a good opera singer sorry
Nobody is arguing her sucess is just that to begin with the director chose her and webber was in rush to make this film and he chose the last resource instead of looking or just make an audition do u know how many women including young girls sing amazing?? she is not for that role but we r all humasn we make mistakes so schumacher is human too he made already 3 mistakes with 3 movies...

I agree with guchristine and lazyisa. Yes Emmy is talented and beautiful. But I also thought she was full of herself at that moment. I've heard singers with far more impressive technique and range. And when she hit the top note she sounded a bit strained. But her gesture of " Hey this is when you give a standing ovation" was uncalled for. She should be lucky if she recieved any applause.
Ok. She was sitting down, for one thing. Second, I believe she was asked to sing it by the host, to test whether she can actually sing the part. Her gesture does not appear to be a call for a standing ovation, but a sign of relief that she made the note.
Let's not spend our lives comparing Emmy Rossum to Sarah Brightman. Sarah is a professionally-trained professional singer. No one can replace her. Emmy Rossum does a a god job in her own right.
It´s okay to have confidence but come on!! she was not great in the movie for my peronsal opinion..I know so many talented women who could have done an excellent job and she was not good. and besides she´s like "hello what r u waiting for applaud me (?)" naaa screw this she sucks
She's just glad she made the note. Isn't it funny how resentful people are of others' success?
Yes, Rossum isn't the only person in the world who could have sung the part. She was 16. If you want to blame someone for it not being Sarah Brightman in the movie, blame Andrew Lloyd Webber, not Emmy Rossum. Webber assassinated Brightman's career after their divorce. The film was originally planned to star Brightman before their divorce.
Give her some credit, come on! She did it live on TV. She deserves some applause. What's wrong with girls being a little confident of themselves and wanting some acknowledgement?
Yes the "e" is the vocal that helps women to sing .Instead men find hard to sing with the the "E" vowel. But still she sang it in a lowerd key.But I hated that she waved her arms to say "Hello what r u waiting for? aplaud me(?)"
