  • it was crazy going from stereo to mono then back to stereo.

  • I used some of your techniques and I love it! thanks so much for taking the time to do this tutorial. I look forward to your future ones!

  • This is the kind of tutorial I was looking for.

  • Hello I'm from France and trying to understand english.. but I love your videos. I'm going to have after effects in one week.. i've to wait for !! But, I've the impression that Hllywoods productions use that,... but french no.. I prefer much better cinematic looj from america, so your video will help me !!! :) great job

  • This might be off topic , i'm using mac too and i dun d "trapcode" in the effects menu .

May i know how to install or download it ? thank you =)

  • Please, can I have your pixel babies?

  • To clarify, it's more like a border, a better descriptive I should've used, so yea, a black border.

  • I noticed that afer I applied the effect there was a dark circular line in the shape of the elipitical tool left behind my project. Even though I feathered it, this black circle appears. How do I get rid of it? thanks.

  • ive never seen vignetting in hollywood films. That only happens in amateur music videos

  • @elitestar Hollywood is never mentioned in this tutorial. So if you're looking a new look for that big Hollywood production you're currently working on, I'm sorry that this home made tutorial was not good enough for you.. :)

  • @elitestar powned

  • Thank you !! that was so ez . great job

  • Hi I love your tutorial , cause I love cinema, and cinematic look. I tried to understand your american, cause I'm frenc. thk your vifdeos so great xoxo

  • skit nice! jävlar va bra engelska du talar :D

  • That was very helpful. I'm new to after effects and I was wondering if you could post a video on how to output your video after you have added your effects? Every time I put film footage in AE, add effects and then render, I end up with a 5 min movie and the file size is enormous. Way to big to upload to anything so how do I get good quality and low file size at the same time? Also, the video in AE has very thin lines across it that you can see when something moves. How do I fix that? Plz help.

  • my right ear is lonely!

  • wow!!!!!!!!this really worked thank you Chris

  • well done sir.

  • This was great! Thank you. For a beginner like myself, this helped a ton!

  • i want film magic pro

  • Nyc dude thanks

  • How did you get that look? (when you were talking in the beginning) Background is blurred a bit, yet you yourself, are crystal clear. How did you do that?

  • @dawizkid120 thats not sth you achieve with after effects, (i mean you can... but it's a lot of work) but with a good camera. i'd guess this one was made with an digital SLR by canon or nikon... you need a big sensor in your camera and a lense with a large aperture to create this 16mm or 35mm film alike look...

  • Wheres tutorial number 2? :(

  • hey man, how did u create the aspect ratio?? do u have the download link for adobe after effects cs4.

  • @LoooZaaa I have no problem with the video but, i just got after affects like 20 minutes ago. And i dont even know where to start or upload a clip to edit or anything. you should make a tutorial for beginners, like how to upload a clip and what not...good tutorial though btw

  • @gearsofshock leave it pressed and select the type of figure that you'd like

  • I like ;)

  • U MADE MY DAY A LIKE FROM ME

  • Sick Tutorial Dude !! U rock !!

  • Man this is a great tutorial, you teach the principles for a great color corection. Thanks!!!

  • Thanks for the tut, nice english ;)

  • This was really helpful, I just got after effects and am still learning how to use it. And i wasn't confused by this at all.

  • i know you help people with this....but i don't think you really know what an anamorphic video is

  • @BRAINYSTUFF My videos are for everyone on the web, and this is just a way of creating something visually good looking.. I am not in any way supplying a crash course in filmmaking, just creative suggestions to other people with the same interests as myself. But who knows, maybe I'll make a video explaining more technical things like Aspect Ratio some time. :)

  • @LoooZaaa yeah i know...that's the first thing i told you...you help people to get some stuff in AE... but maybe you should not tell that an anamorphic video is just adding letterboxing to an image...i didn't mean to be rude.....maybe i was wrong in my writting....but i think you could make people confuse about that things :)

  • @BRAINYSTUFF No no you're not rude, I appreciate all sorts of feedback and criticism. :) And I know what you mean, but I hope I don't confuse people too much. haha. If I had the time I'd make more in depth tutorials for sure! I'll keep what you've said in mind. :)

  • @LoooZaaa ok...looking forward to them :)

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Learned something new! =]

  • You never EVER use the vignetting effect unless you absolutely have to. I did on my short for a good reason and people still hated the effect. It screams "amateur".

It is not a cinematic look. It is just a horrible trend that has taken over YouTube.

  • @FilmmakerRyan I think it's a matter of taste. If you like it, use it. If you don't, well.. don't. It's only as "amateur" as you make it I guess... :)

  • @FilmmakerRyan Yeah, but I'm not talking about taste, I'm talking about how it's viewed in Hollywood and to an audience.

If you make a YouTube film, fine. But if you're making a professional-looking short, or shoestring feature (like $6,000 budget), then you absolutely want to stay away from it because it's not a cinematic look. It's a YouTube look.

  • @FilmmakerRyan Amen, Finally someone who agrees with me, lmao.

  • thanks for youre tut.

  • Thanks man! There are a million annoying after effects videos on youtube! You know your stuff!

  • Aside the fact that it was helpful... I was so impressed by your english... Its more than awesome for a foreigner... Maybe its a different language but you dont notice anything... :)

  • this was madd helpful. thanks!

  • Quick question: I know that movement is also crucial (if not the most important aspect) of making the film look cinematic so should I lower the fps to 24 (or 25) from my Hd camera's 29.97? Or would filming in the actual footage in 24 (25) be a better choice?

I could test these things myself, but I'm occupied with other things :O

  • @MindOfPagan Hi! Movies are generally shot in 24fps while TV is usually broadcast in 25fos. 24fps gives you that "classic" film look that filmmakers generally love, so I would recommend that. I've never used 30 fps, and don't know anyone else personally in the business who has. :) Hope that answers your question.

  • @LoooZaaa Thanks very much!

  • @MindOfPagan Filming in native 24 will save a lot of time and post and you won't risk your audio being out of synch.

  • @LethargicBannanazZ thanks!

  • @MindOfPagan welcome... and also make sure that you check if you are filming in 23.976 not 29.97 wrapper.

  • what camera do you use?

  • SWeeT!!

  • Nice...

  • not only do you show how to accomplish the effect, but you have a really great way of showing how After Effects is used in general. THANKS! :)

  • awesome, i managed to do the grindhouse effect

  • Thank you, i used this on my school project :")

  • @Fraidification That's awesome. You should upload it to YouTube and add it as a video response to this video so I can watch it! :)

  • it really works i swear guys ..... thanks alot bro ... keep up the good work

  • 1 Person uses Sony Vegas.

  • yeah your doing really well, english is definitely a hard language to learn for other cultures, mostly because of the fact that its pretty fucked up and has so many rule contradictions.

  • wow ! xD

  • Good tutorial. I use Premiere but the concepts are all the same. Everyone seems to like the feathered mask around the edge of the frame technique.

Tell me about the lighting setup for your on-camera speaking part. Looks great!

  • EAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! IIIIIIIIH LIKED IT IIAEAAAH LIKE IT! IIIIIIIH SE THINGS IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIH!

  • Really helpfull! thansk alot :)

  • that was great thank you!!!!!! ummm maby some filters that are in AE b/c i have no idea what they are called and cant use them in my vids :(

  • Too much work. You dont have go into after effects to do this, and you dont have to create all those masks. You do the same thing with edit tools right in premiere.

  • @DNDMAG Yeah sure, and you can also use "drag and drop" presets, but that wont teach you anything about After Effects. That's why it's called a tutorial. ;D

  • @DNDMAG Fuck you man

    shut up

dnt grab premiere into After effect tutorial

  • loozaaa

    Great tutorial!!!!

    Nice work!

Can you teach "shrlock homes-movie effect"

    similar effct but unique

  • Are you the dude from the quintiles commercial?

  • OMG! THANK YOU!

  • Nice one......loved it.....exactly what i need!!

  • Do you know any seriuos Afters' film effects, which really gives my 7d video really cinematic quality, your video not film look, sorry i think so, if you know smth about cinematic filters or effects, please let me know.

  • so how do you change it from full screen to the anamorphic aspect ratio in after effects?

  • did you use effects when you do the Intro (the scene where i can see you speaking) Or is it just light-technique? Great video so far :-)

  • @86Renegade86 That's just lighting and camera settings. Thanks! :)

  • Great tutorial, I hope you make no.2 because I learned so much from this (:

  • As bra tutorial, vad använder du för kamera?

  • @GooFuckyourself Har en Nikon D5000 och en Canon 60D som jag växlar mellan. :) Men mest Canon!

  • Kanu Reeves mark II

  • why does this video only sounds on my left speaker?

  • Skit bra video, tack =)

  • yo great vid! but how do i get the eclipse tool? all i have is the rectangle tool T_T idk how to change it! can anyone help?

  • @XxSuperAwesomexxX okay two ways: you can either right click on the rectangular tool and get the ellipse, or hold down with a left click and wait. hope i helped!

  • thanks man, i figured it out @SheedsEnterprises

  • Well done. Great tutorial, nice finished look. Some people really don't know what they're doing, but this is really smooth. :)

  • Hej!

  • Dude? YOU ROCK MAN Great video.

    TLK Productions

  • Dude ur a legend!

  • Dude ur a legend!

  • all this is great buddy but can someone at least give me the link where can i see how to make a progressive footage of the interlaced footage...all this vignette and colour correction i can make in 10 seconds or so without using after effects...thanks

  • does adobe after effects run on window7??if so which one??
