It's actually better to drain the oil. Because seizing up is not interesting to watch, plus there may be lots of smoke which means poor visibility. Plus engine remains undestroyed.

Letting an engine explode parts-wise is much more enjoyable to watch :). For example, this video was good and steady view and additional camera underneath the engine would have made it the very good.

Draining everything - engine disintegrates and keeps running with half the parts bouncing in the block, etc.
