I don't think this movie was funny. It was more like a tragic drama where director went to limits to create funny situations by making fun of a particular ethnic group. At times he was successful but the situations seemed far from reality. For example who would like to have his good looking sons marry one of the ugliest girls available.

Well, considering it's all about a man trying to force his family into doing their lives differently than they wish, I have to disagree with you. I really don't find beating your wife and children or forcing them to marry particularly funny. True, it has some great jokes, but it's far from a comedy.
