  • older wonderful, younger too much modern chest register...leans too far fwd musically for my taste..BUT...its very moving

  • So beautiful!

  • Joan is indeed stunning. Great video.

  • Is anyone else annoyed by Young Heidi and how she scoops into everything she sings? Love Joan Roberts, but wish she had a better complement.

  • @SondheimFanatic310 Yeah, I can't join in with all the "best version ever!" comments, because of her. It's not just the scooping either ... the voice is a bit too abrasive.

  • How amazing to see and hear Joan Roberts all these ages later, very recognizable both in face and voice.

  • I've always been very indifferent to this song in the "Follies" score. I didn't hate it, I just never liked it. It doesn't have the greatness of Sondheim's other songs. However, this is the first rendition I've heard that actually justifies it's placement in the score. Joan Roberts' is just stunning, especially at her age in this video.

  • that was the best rendition of this song i liked this better than the original the concert in the eighties and the new revival!!!

  • maybe a little less talk about miss Danner and a few words about Joan Roberts who sings this song and was the ORIGINAL Laurey in the original 1943 production of Oklahoma!!! a legend ? yes , a legend...but not one who did many shows...she did the big one though! She was 83 when she came out of retirement to do this show in 2001 and now, 10 years later, is still alive...one of the few original cast members of that legendary groundbreaking show still with us .

  • @Dirkdebruyne Maybe I'll talk about whatever I want? Do you really think it's rude to comment on Ms. Danner's performance in this clip? Anyway, I do know who Joan Roberts is, actually; that she and Celeste Holm are the only two living principals left from the OBC of Oklahoma; that she came out of (stage) retirement after 52 years for this production but left after only a month due to the demands of 8 shows a week and her commute from LI...I can go on...and OF COURSE she still sounds amazing.

  • @ruyona you talk about what you want and I'll talk about what I want, happy ? I don't know who you are and frankly I wasn't talking to you but to people in general who may be interested in the info I wrote..that you know all of that already is lovely...maybe you should calm down and don't take youtube quite that seriously. I rarely reply to people who react to my posts but you are one of those deliciously rude exceptions

  • @Dirkdebruyne So, what I wrote was rude and what you wrote (that we shouldn't talk about one performer because we're not talking enough about another performer) isn't? Just want to make sure...

  • @Dirkdebruyne Joan Roberts is dead. Hate to break the news to you.

  • @BeckoffShow Do you have any proof of this? She was very much alive and living on Long Island as of a few months ago. I did a search online and could find no obituary and wikipedia and IMDb still list her as living. I work in theatre and I haven't heard anything about her passing--surely the death of the original Laurey would have been covered. Are you confusing her with Jane White, her costar in this production of Follies who just died 2 weeks ago?

  • @ruyona you are indeed correct. I confused the name. I am happy Joan is still with us!

  • @BeckoffShow Great! You scared me for a minute! :)

  • Do you have anything more of Ms. Danner in this production? Even from just this little clip she seems like an ideal Phyllis.

  • Beautiful.
