It has a G Force dog clutch 4 speed. If you do it right, you can do clutchless upshifts. If not, you strip the teeth off the gears, quickly. The stock tranny has a weak 3rd gear and really wide ratios for road racing.
Thansk for the response Glenn... the throttle on my miata is a switch and should be "on" ata ll times. Just really neat to see the different amount of time on brakes and when the throttle is applied. Learned science with this awesome machine!
@Rhygin I am a big Miata fan and owner. This Dodge is as easy to drive, except for the power. You are always looking for traction , using lots of throttle control and then searching for your braking zone! Thanks for posting.
OLD GUYS RULE .....Incredible video, and fantastic car. Made my hair stand on end, next best thing to actually being behind the wheel. Reminds me of my hot laps at Sebring International Raceway ...well almost .....in my Miata. Read the article about this OLD SCHOOL race car in the August 2010 issue of Grassroots Motorsports.
Very cool to say the least, I've always savored your vids, this one is the best yet - it appears Phil was pushing harder then ever. Aside from some exotics It looks like only a current GT1 car will best your times? Someday I'll have to make it out to that track... a treasure.
You are right. The tires were good for 2 hot laps, then you might as well go in. Next year the car will have its original Zakspeed Turbo Capri style body with the front closed off and the radiators in the rear fenders. It will be 200 pounds lighter and with more down force. Your car and Blackhawk are neat too. In the seventies, the 240Z was The car. I am probably too old to travel that far now, but sure would like to do a cross country tour catching several tracks.
Some smooth driving! I see a couple of exits where it must be tempting to get back in it too soon... and end up slow. Thanks for the ride, loved every second of it!

I get goosebumps every time you go over 170....awesome. What kind of transmission did you have on that?

Wow, that's a really technical track, especially for a car with this kind of power. Well done!

I cannot place driving this car and my ITA miata at all! This thing is nasty! Totally different approach! Very nice!

Even though the sound is not the greatest, I can still visualize it in my head on what that Hemi sounds like at full song. Nice video.
