  • @ThePookie25 His father died along time ago

  • His father is out of prison now.

  • When Tammi died, part of Marvin died also. Although she was engaged to a doctor, I always believed that Tammi and Marvin had a very special bond for each other.

  • Horrible what happened!

  • May Mr. Gaye always RIP.

  • That iz soooo fucked up ! Hiz Father did'nt have 2 kill him !

  • Marvin Gaye’s is the artist that I most identify with.

I tried emulate his music earlier in my life.

    This brother was so sensual…

His Music did provide sexual healing for many of us during lovemaking

The first time I made love, “I want You” was playing on my cassette deck.

His music helped me, and HEALED during some very trying times……

These songs are dedicated to Nicci. Girl you were my first love

I think of you often….Thank You for allowing me in your life

  • @katofromgreenhornet I think Marvin had a death wish. He know that his father would kill him if he ever hit him. This is the one thing a black parent would not tolerate back in the day. Bless both their souls. Father Gaye robbed so many of us that day!!

  • No one can ever replace you....Thank you for the music...

  • Marvin Gay, Barry White, James Brown, Ray Charles, Luther vandross, & Michael Jackson = *** R.I.P ***

  • his father should have been executed for this.

  • Can anyone tell me whatever happend to Marvin's most important eulogy "can you tell me where is my friend Martin"

  • RIP Marvin Gaye.... 27 years today since you left this world yet u're still remembered fondly.... Its amazing that i wasn't even born when you died, yet i i know of you and ur music.... i guess u're that good. Here's to celebrating your 72nd birthday as an angel!!!!

  • much loss

  • rip Marvin Gaye

  • The media doesn't report the entire truth regarding Marvin's death. His father was physically beaten by a drugged out Marvin shortly before his death. In the ensuing murder trial, Marvin's father ended up serving only 5 years for involuntary manslaughter. Marvin was a brilliant singer but also led a troubled life toward the end.

  • @timlin0607

Marvin Gaye led a troubled life the entire time that he was on this great green and blue.

Most geniuses suffer in the same way.

  • He died from a gun shot wound delivered by his father who reported being afraid of the heavily addicted Marvin. However, there was an on-going tension between the two. Marvin being a young man and his father a church going, cross dressing strict disciplinarian. There was a play that one of his siblings put out called ""My Brother Marvin, but it has yet to come to film. He was killed on April 1st, I willnever forget the day, like MJ it was like losing a family member.

  • if i may ask you what did he die of? oh i miss him already i love his music please what did he die of?

  • A master genius was taken away from this world way too soon. It is soo sad that Marvin's troubled life contributed to his demise, but his evil father made this giant fall, and hopefully his father's soul will never rest in peace. Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder has seen many fellow Motown artists leave this world. Smokey said that he has been to more funerals that he care to remember. Miss you Marvin... How sweet it was to be sung to by you..

  • Rip Marvin i love you,i love you Stevie!

  • I think this was a tragedy on so many levels. What a wonderful voice and talent. We have lost so many true R&B or Soul artists within the last 20 years.

  • you know i'm always wondering how will todays artist be remembered? please people i'm not hating on anyone, but some of the music being produced today is pure garbage, especially in rap & some of the r&b. the garbage they talk about has no substance, love, soul, passion,or creativity. at 44 yrs. old i grew up on M.G. through my parents & it has never ended. my point is what can you say good about, not all, but some of todays artist at their funerals, about their music like people talk about mg music

  • @str8outtatexas1 I totally agree with you. I am 40 and I have always played early 90's, 80's, 70's & 60's music for my two teens since they were in the womb. They still like some of the crap they make today, but on any given day, my 12 yr old dtr or my 15 yr old son will get on You Tube and listen to the Temptations, Chante Moore, Anita Baker, Earth, Wind and Fire etc. My daughter actually admitted to me that older music is better than today's music which really surprised me.

  • Bless you Brother Marvin. You've left something that the world will enjoy till the end of time.

  • THE MAN SAID IT BEST "LETS GET IT ON"

  • damn stevie had some miserable times

funerals like marvin gayes, luther vandross, tammi terrel, michael jackson

    RIP marv

  • HAPPY B-DAY REST ~IN ~PEACE

  • REST in Peace Mr. Marvin Gaye,

    I Love u Stevie W.

  • i cant belive that his father killed him!! he shot him with a gun 2 times in the heart and the shoulder!! R.I.P we love you marvin gaye!! ='(

  • R&B died with him. R.I.P Marvin

  • such a great artist that died too soon.r.i.p Marvin

  • Marvin and Stevie Wonder are my two favorite artists of all time. Marvin is sorely missed. A musical genius.

  • i feel bad stevie wonder always has friends who die

  • When Stevie sang "The Way You Make Me Feel" in a tribute to MJ,it was touching when he burst into tears.

  • @louij3 Remember this my friend, they are many of us that will remember Stevie when he passes on. Let's be greatfull that he's still here. Someone wil take on his torch of planting seeds of love.

  • @Fantagurlful Yes, Marvin and Stevie are my absolute favorite artist in the whole wide world!! They don't make 'em like those two anymore!!!

  • @Fantagurlful Me too. I like The Beatles too, but I can get tired of them. I never knew Marvin, but imagine that he was a wonderful being. May he rest in peace.

  • @Fantagurlful Those two and Sam Cooke are my fav 3

  • RIP Marvin!

  • R.I.P marvin gaye you are not forgotten

  • Very sad

  • I like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder

  • The song is "What's Going On"

  • what ´s the song at last?!

  • i heard his father shot him down? right?

  • yep

  • his daughter nora gaye is in the tripple x movie with ice cube! she is hot to may u rest now brother marvin i was 4yrs old when he died

  • michael085609:

FYI, NONA stars with Ice Cube in the movie "xXx: State of the Union." She did not make a triple X movie with Ice Cube as you imply, or anyone else for that matter. Check it out, yourself!

Have you ever wondered how nasty rumours get started? You need to get your facts straight before you take away someone's good reputation.

I'm beginning to think you can't trust anyone UNDER thirty. LOL.

  • Rip marven gaye

  • Marvin , we miss you SOOO MUCH , RIP

  • Young stevie!! How did Marvin Die//I heard he got shot or somethng?

  • His father shot and killed him.

  • stevie sure is strong to attend and perform at marvins funeral.

  • and now 25 yrs later Michael....damn

  • Stevie paying his respects...nice.

  • Stevie's always there to pay his respects to the other legends. It must be tough for him to lose so many close friends, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, and now Michael Jackson

  • It must be rough for him.

  • amen to that brother and he will finally get to see them in heaven for the first time im sure that will feel wonderful!! when he make it there rip u guys

  • @THOUSANDAlRE Don't 4get about Rick James, they were close & even worked together,Stevie Wonder also sung @ Rick's funeral as well. I idolize & call only Stevie Wonder & Rick James my heros. Also don't 4get about the late great Minnie Riperton. In fact outside of her immediate family, only Stevie was allowed at her death bed in the hospital.

  • @THOUSANDAlRE and minnie ripperton... and MAMA LULA, as well as one of his brothers, and syreeta wright.

  • @THOUSANDAlRE He sang and played at Gerald LeVert's funeral too.

  • @THOUSANDAlRE: I agree. You know something... I can no longer listen to the songs he sang @ MJ's funeral. Every time I do, I break down into tears... I just can't do it.

  • i start to almost cry when i think about he was trageically killed. he is sorely missed

  • who cares about his casket? do you think his friends, family & fans were thinking of something like that a such a tragic time like this? no. they most definitly werent. so keep your childish comments to yourself pal. how old are you? posting dumb comments like this only shows what your mentality is like. dont be so disrespectful.. if it werent for him & all the other singers that made such classic love songs your mother wouldnt of been in the mood to take a dickin' from your father. pay homage.

  • UNDERTAKER, you're an idiot. What's so odd about your comment is that youre in a position that should hold reverence and respect for the departed but yet you come on here and make a douche bag out of yourself... you parents ever teach you when its appropriate just to simply shut up??? Please, save your comments for some other person... I really don't give a shit what other moronic comment you might have to say...

  • The guys name is "Undertaker". He works in a funeral home. What he says makes sense, If you have ever had to go pick out a casket for a loved one. The first thing that comes up is money. Different caskets have different quality. Its a tough decision. Speak only if you know what you are talking about. We live in a real world with real world decisions. Spamtard. Now, perceive the day you have to bury a loved ones, or they have to bury you. Are you going to go with a wooden box or stainless steal?

  • RIP great musician

  • whos the back up singers bty?

    Donna_ well

  • who was the sionger at the end?

  • i would say its donna summer.

  • uma perca da musica!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow, just wow

  • happy birthday marvin

  • VERY HARD 2 WATCH. I didn't watch it cuz I've seen it a few times. I just wanted 2 wish Marvin a Happy Birthday. This soul man would've been 70. I LOVE this man SO MUCH,its not even funny. I MISS u Baby. I'll ALWAYS be your #1 FAN. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. (:

  • I remember that day very well. My dad woke me up to tell me and I thought that he was playing an April Fools joke. What a beautiful and talented man. He is still missed.

  • 1939-1984. Marvin Gaye Forever.

  • 25 years ago gone but never forgotton sadly missed

  • I remember coming home from school and my sister told me Marvin Gaye was shot to death. I was stunned. No one will ever come close to his music.

  • He died on a Sunday!! You sure you had school that day?

  • what does it matter!!,she was upset to hear it!thats what matters, she liked the man!!

  • We will never forget you Marvin Pentz Gaye 1939-1984. 25 years today God called you home another, one of our Griots sent to sing in Gods Choir. I don't think there will ever be another "King of Soul", like our still living Queen Aretha you were an irreplacible part of our lives.

  • Well said Newsoul.

We're thinking about you today Brother Marvin on the 25th anniversery of our lost.

Blessings to his family, friends and many many fans who share this same void today.

I remember I was 17 years old. It was a Sunday around 7pm est that I was getting dressed about to go on a date with this fine guy (can't remember his name) and it came across on the radio. Wow!! I remember everything but that guys name.

  • somebody can tell me what is the name of the song stevie wonder wrote for marvin gaye?

  • You can find the name to ANY song by just typing in one line of the song, and putting LYRICS after it...

Here's how you can find it..

(Google lighting up the candles lyrics

    hope this helps!

  • How ca someone kill their own son thats something i dont understand

  • It was a domestic dispute and Marvin came after his dad while his dad had a gun. I believe alcohol might have been involved, and with Marvin's mental state at the time he might have been wanting to be shot. Things often happen in the heat of the moment sometimes that seem incomprehensible later on.

  • RIP Marvin Gaye. You are missed but never forgetten!!!!

  • man, thats one cold father....

  • his dad was trippin wen he killd marvin over a decision marvin wanted to make his dad is sick

  • how could a dad take his own sons life that is terrible.

  • R.i.p marvin gaye. I was born in the 90s but I love ur music. Never b forgotten!

  • what happened to his father after he killed him?

  • he went to jail but he died several years ago....

  • He did not go to jail, he was put on probation after it was discovered he had a brain tumor.

  • Marvin was a classic eloquent with skill and talent that thanks to all his Goldens we can always enjoy. So many great memories! Thank you!

  • always on my mind

    peace

  • he died cuz of his dad thn his dad died of a tumour n thn his mum died of bone cancer how sad is tht. R.I.P Marvin ur the best eva nobody can replace u

  • I've heard that a tumor in the brain can bring about crazy actions and a crazy personality. Perhaps that was what happened to his dad when he was shot.

  • While it's possible that could've been a factor, Marvin and his dad's relationship was rocky for a long time. His dad always had it out for Marvin. His dad even said one time something like "if he ever touches me I'm gonna kill him." So to borrow Arnold, "It's not a tumah!"

  • Enjoy your life in hell Marvin Gaye Sr.

  • wtf?

  • thats his dad..who shot him

  • it waz really sad how he died

  • Marvin was a legend, when I saw his life story on television- his father made his life a very sad one, but his music

  • his evil wicked father killed his own son.that bastard is burnin in hell.GOD is not happy with that wicked devil..callin himself a preacher..hes waz apreacher with the devil...hope to see u soon brother marvin

  • His dad shot him during an arguement over buisines. Apparently his mother and father were argueing over lost documents and when Marvin intervened his dad shot him. His dad didnt go to prison because of ill health. I think he should have had the death penalty for robbing the world of such a talented human being.

  • Why are Americans always talking about death penalty? I admire Americans who don't want death penalty, even if they have enough reasons wanting to, like Chubby Tavares, whose son was killed in 2002! Btw: he's a great Marvin Gaye-fan!

  • drugs destroyed him and his entire family

  • cant blv its been 24yrs i didnt know its that long but his music stll the best

  • hard to beleive its been 24yrs , he is missed, but we are lucky to still have his music, videos

  • what year did he die? and how did he die?

  • not sure when he died but he was shot by his dad

  • he died 4-1-84 from 2 gun shots to the chest by his father the day before his 45th birthday

  • He died in 1984 his dad shot him I think over an arguement not sure.

  • his father was a priest, killed him becz he was embarassed to hear him sing abt sexual healing

  • yes you're right

  • best singer ever

  • Does anyone know where he's buried? I'd like to pay my respects.

  • some said he is buried at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. Some said he is cremated, ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean

  • Yes, he was cremated. His kids put his ashes in the Pacific Ocean. I remember the photo in Jet magazine.

  • @tatf He was cremated!

  • Yeah how sad the way this family life turned out. Poor lady she loses a son by the hands of her husband. Then the husband dies of a brain tumor. Anyone knows if she is still living? That's enough heartache and stress for anyone to stop breathing.

  • to all of you who talked about what marvin did or what his father did. these are the facts, Marvin is dead. His farther was convicted of killing him. when a person is in the house with a corps, remember the police and coroner decide what occured. I was there (at a death) and what was decided was not what actually happened. I beleive thr cops did the best that they could based on the evidence. So I beleive marvins mother knows the whole truth, but no one else but GOD.

  • Before his 45th birthday, Gaye's father shot and killed him after an argument that had started after his parents argued over misplaced business documents. Ironically, Gaye was killed by a gun he had offered to his father. Marvin Sr. was sentenced to six years of probation after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Charges of first-degree murder were dropped after doctors discovered Marvin Sr. had a brain tumor. Spending his final years in a retirement home, he died of pneumonia in 1998.

  • Autopsy on his father revealed that his dad had a tumor on the brain that may have affected his behavior. He and Marvin never got along, and it was said that Marvin beat him up before he shot him to death.

  • am just taking notes on this.this guy was great.rest in peace

  • there were empty seats? WTF?!!

  • such a tragedy when someone so talented as he has to die in such a trouble way. I can't believe that a father would kill their own son their flesh and blood. He must be out of his mind insane. Such a shame. I think Marvin Gaye is awesome and whatever song he sings I like them all. Doesn't matter what cause he makes it sexy and sounds great

  • it was the drugs, i heard marvin senior had gotten hard into cocaine. that'll do things like this to otherwise decent people. and it takes alot for a minister to shoot his own son.

  • it doesn't take anything but stupidity. Carelessness,NO freakin heart. coldness, cruelty? shameless. trigger happy. Must I go on? cause I can.

  • He is a minister. He is suppose to be an example to his congregation? I don't care what he's on. He is a minister for god sakes. What good is all the preachings if he is like this? you think people will listen to him? Hell NO! what kind of minister is that? taking drugs and shooting his own son? there's NO EXCUSE for it. I'm sorry. He is a poor excuse for a minister. He should rot in hell for all eternity.

  • stevie was at every funeral

  • STEVIE!!!!

  • Wow, this was a great vid, thanks for posting. Stevie did "Lighting Up The Candles" for the Jungle Fever soundtrack seven years later.

  • It's ashame his own father killed him and got away with it after pleading insanity. He wasn't bit more insane than a fish can swim, he knew what he was doing when he shot his own son.

  • He never loved Marvin because of his career and the love from his mother. What a prick is father was

  • He was mentally ill...

  • Trust me, He knew what he was doing. I just saw the biography of Marvin. Is father always beat him since a child and dressed up like a woman at the same time. Marvin got picked on because of that.

  • I admit I don't know for sure (none of us really do) but I heard that Marvin provoked his father into it because he was tired...

  • lol thats so true man. I was look at rev.james clevland funeral and he was there too

  • boy, stevie wonder seem to go to everyone funeral on youtube

  • lol thats so true man. i was lookinf at rev. james cleavland funeral and he was there too lol. man you wrong

  • dam marvin music changed my life

  • Marvin was a great man that fell into the addiction trap that Elvis and other greats fell into. When I heard the details of how he died I felt terrible for his Dad and family. I wish things would have been different and we would have had many more years of this incredibly talented man.

  • ily stevie! lighting up the candles is a great song! i didnt kow it was for marvin

  • RIP!

    <333

  • oh i remember that day...it was a sunday...i think in 1980. 8th grade. wow. my family and i were outside in the backyard. it was a beautiful day and here comes the report on the radio. shocking. i did not appreciate him the way that i do now. i like some of today's soul music but marvin...awesome.

  • It was April 1,1984 when Marvin Gaye was shot to death by his father, not 1980.

  • Thanks for clearing that up. It was over 20 years ago and I was much younger.

  • woah, instant shivers....

    RIP MARVIN

  • I also remember it like it was yesterday. I heard it on the radio too and was thinking it was a stupid April fools joke. I was about 13 at the time and always remember hom my mom loved him so much. After his death I remember reading his autobiography he had written before his death and I've been a great fan ever since. His music was so personal and true to the heart. He will forever be one of those guys that will never be duplicated...purely original.

  • Marvin Gaye Jr (the singer) father who killed him been dead for many many years he died in 1998.His mom died a few years after Marvin in 1987 due to cancer, Marvins Lookalike brother Frankie Gaye died in 2001 he wrote a book about Marvin just before he died. This is a very sad story about the Gayes!!!!!Rest in Peace Marvin, Mom, & Frankie.
